Wow talk about a hidden gemstone in Tobago...Beautiful ocean view, private beach. Great hangout decks where my fiance and I just laid and soaked up the sun and view...amazing hospitality....Ask for Vandra...she got things done...and was a great help on setting up amazing excursions for dirt CHEAP. I remember going to the beach and there was no one else but us and the hotel sent someone to watch us...that made such a difference and made us felt real secured and safe....Thanks Blue Haven

A hotel with character; yes, it is a bit old and has seen better days but the location, the friendly staff and the overall atmosphere make this a hotel we would revisit. We were upgraded to a junior suite at no extra cost, a lovely large room with wood panelled floor and a very comfortable bed. Large bathroom with complementary toiletries, snowy white towels, TV, safe, fridge etc. The view was amazing, we were awoken each morning by the sound of the waves and birdsong. The hotel's location on a headland above a beautiful small bay was idyllic, yes there were steps down to the beach, but not far and well worth the walk for the excellent food in the beach bar, ok the service did take a while but does it matter when you can sit under swaying palms and watch the world go by.
The restaurant for breakfast and dinner was also excellent, nothing was too much trouble for the staff we were made to feel special. This was our first trip to Tobago, but it will not be the last; the island is much less touristy than other Caribbean islands - don't go there if you want a squeaky-clean generic hotel that could be anywhere in the world - but if you want a taste of real Caribbean life and to meet people who really do mean it when they say have a nice day then this is the place for you.

Room Tip: All the rooms have a sea view, ask for an upgrade to a junior suite you may be lucky

The Blue Haven is definitely shabby, a bit dusty and not for the luxury loving traveller. But the bed was comfortable, the room was pleasant and if like us you are not too bothered about 'posh' but love wonderful views, perfect beaches, friendly staff and things to be a bit quirky, the Blue Haven maybe for you.
We weren't expecting a luxury hotel, having read previous tripadvisor reviews, so weren't surprised when we arrived at the hotel. We got there fairly late and after finding a few little problems with our room overnight I spoke to the reception staff and by the afternoon we were upgraded to a Junior Suite. This had a lovely view toward Scarborough and a balcony to watch the sunset. It wasn't perfect but it was spacious and very comfortable.
In the morning we went down to the beach, a fairly easy walk down a concrete walkway. We were delighted by this lovely little bay, David was on hand to give us sunbeds and have chat. Pelicans flew to and fro from the rocks, the beach was golden sand, there was plenty of natural shade, the sea was warm but a bit wavy, very invigorating and lots of fun. Whilst we were there the beach was never busy and the little beach restaurant served cold beers and pleasant food (daytime only).
From the Blue Haven it is relatively easy to get to other places on the island, taxi's were reasonably priced and the drivers friendly and helpful. Especially Alvin!
Breakfast at the hotel was served in the restaurant, again a bit shabby but with nicely set tables, wonderful fresh fruit, great omelettes and a variety of interesting bread. The breakfast room staff could not have been more helpful, cheerful and friendly.
Personally, I would much rather stay in this atmospheric and charming place than a luxurious 'could be anywhere' palace. We felt relaxed and at peace here. What more could you want!.

This hotel is old. If I had my way it would be condemned! There was no hot running water, the wardrobe in my room was filthy, so was the bathroom door. The only thing good about it was the sea view. For lunch had to go down a lot of steps to the beach bar. The service in this hotel took ages! I would not recommend this plce to any one. Tobago itself was nice.

Room Tip: All rooms have sea views

The Blue Haven hotel is a special place. It is a hotel with history. Once, famous people used to live here. Now it is a bit old, but it has charm and personality. If you stay for a while, you will learn to know the owners and you will feel like home. This is the place to stay on Tobago.

The breakfast and food is very nice and served in a atmospheric veranda. Albert in the kitchen is wonderful at serving food and breakfast. Also wonderful home-made omelettes.

The location is perfect near town but also with a good beach. The beach is probably one of the best on the Island. Lined with palms and almost no people. Wonderful David on the beach helps people with collecting coconuts from the palms and also looks out for the swimmers (give him some tip, he deserves it!). He is also a very talented nature guide, helping with spotting Iguanas in the trees etc. Wonderful time at the beach with him every day.

The hotel was renovated 2000 to high standard but the salt spray and weather takes it toll. If it was renovated again, most people would not be able to afford it. Now you get charming luxury at an affordable price. If you instead want streamlined, clean luxury without soul, then go to another hotel.

The rooms are beautiful, large and ours had a perfect view of the ocean. A bit dirty in the corners, but the floors and beds are truly beautiful.

The hotel has reserve-generators and solar-cells, so the water and the electricity works when other hotels go down.

The owner Karl is very nice and attending, you will feel at home.

Room Tip: The second floor for good views.

Stayed whilst on the Saga Caribbean Islands tour for four nights. The views across the bay are very good. The pool area is fine and the pool water is cool.
Whilst the hotel needs to undertake a maintenance review as many small things, ( e.g. taps falling off, air conditioning leaking, wardrobe doors needing to be returned to runners etc ) need attention there is a boutique atmosphere to the hotel. Staff in the restaurant area are very attentive whilst the bar staff appear to be new and finding their feet.
Food in the restaurant is good and service very good.
Whilst not a four star by UK standards probably is on Tobago.

We have just returned from a fabulous ten days at the Blue Haven hotel. Our room had an amazing sea views. The beds and sofas were very comfortable and we were never troubled by mosquitoes as we were last year in Antigua. The staff were always helpful, welcoming and friendly. Lunch and drinks at the beach bar were wonderful with views across the beautiful sandy beach. It was always very quiet with a constant refreshing warm breeze. In the evening we sipped cocktails on the terrace watching the sunset followed by a delicious la carte meal at The Shutters. We hired a car for a few days and travelled the island but can honestly say that we found nowhere in as perfect a position as this lovely boutique hotel.

Room Tip: We were upgraded to a junior suite which had a sitting area with views across the bay.
