Though we arrived at the Burren Wild Tours on a Healy bus tour, the highlight of the trip, I must say, was John Connelly! I must've been the 1000th tourist on his property but that doesn't give him a reason to skimp on his enthusiasm about the place. It was a very homely and lovely experience during the walk up and at the Granny's farmhouse cottage. After a long and pleasant hike up to the rocks, some tea and highly appetizing cakes would await you at the cute little Granny house. This is such a unique feature for a tour and nonetheless completes the whole homely, family-run feel you get on this tour.

We had a wonderful 2.5 hour walk with our tour guide John Connelly. We were not sure what to expect but we were pleasantly surprized with our experience. The scenery was breath-taking, the company pleasant and the information with stories very interesting. Highly recommend this walk. See pictures.

In the past I have avoided guided tours for fear of getting slowed down in a large group, or being subjected to wiki-facts from an over-rehearsed guide. However, when planning a visit to the Burren, we decided to take a risk and book the 2 hr guided tour with Burren Wild Tours, and hope that a walk in the Clare fresh air couldn't be THAT stuffy...

Well, our optimism was well-rewarded. The 2-3 hour tour takes you up to the top of one of the mountains that lies within the farmland of the family that runs the tour business. John, who was our guide for the afternoon was welcoming and knowledgable, and well able to match his delivery to the audience so that you felt that you were being shown around by a friend rather than being part of conveyor-belt tourism.

The Burren itself is of course the real star of the show with its unique geology and plantlife, archaelogical remains and breathtaking views, but Burren Wild Tours managed to build on this natural advantage with their take on traditional Irish hospitality. What was already a great experience was embellished when John found us a sunny spot near the top of our climb to settle for a while and boiled a kettle to make us all a cup of tea - with a nice slab of cake to match.

Beautiful scenery, good company, and a fresh-made cup of tea - what more could you possibly wish for?

A wonderful walk on the Burren! We took the 2 1/2 + hour tour and as luck would have it no one else signed up. So our guide, Darragh gave us a private tour through his family's property. He was very knowledgeable, personable and passionate about the area. The hike is up the hillside through meadows and rocky areas. We were given walking sticks which made the walk an easy trek. We hiked to a holy well where Darragh made us tea and served cheese and crackers, all very civilized. This was a great off the beaten path excursion and we highly recommend it.

with my husband we booked the 2 1/2 hours tour and we were not disappointed. Our guide John guided us through very interesting part of the Burren and we walk over 2 mountains. In fact we were gone over 3 hours. John was stopping regularly for us to be able to enjoy the view. We were lucky as there was nobody else. If you go for the long tour, please wear the right gear and you will certainly enjoy the experience. We did.
