The tour of the Perugina Chocolate Factory was a highlight of our trip to Perugia. Note: reservations are a must, especially for the English tour. It started off with w a 10 min video of the history of the company, then a tour of the museum, which was interesting and informative, and then on to factory tour during which we got to see them making Easter eggs still (size of small footballs). Unfortunately the rest of the factory was down for maintenance. The tour guide said the best time to visit is late October thru December when the factory is fully operational and then you will get to see all the Baci chocolates rolling off the production floor. The tour finished off in the gift show which had a wide assortment of chocolates to choose from.
There was a chocolate class going on while we were there, and I would have loved to have had a chance to join it.

Note: we took a cab from the city center and it costs about 25 euros each way, so it was a little expensive. However, a city bus does run past the factory, as an option. Ticket prices were reasonable at 7 euros.

The tour of the Baci Chocolate factory gives you a fantastic opportunity to delve into the history and world of chocolate. The museum and tour was personal and thoroughly enjoyed, including the taste testing. Though we are glad we were there as a couple and 1 other, a large group in the more busy summer months would have been hard to tolerate and you would struggle to hear what the tour guide is staying.

A great look into the history and making of Baci Perugina. The tour lasted about an hour and a half which ended at the gift shop, which there was plenty to buy.

We were a party of 10 people (4 adults and 6 kids), we booked an English tour about a week prior to our arrival (A Friday, late September at 16:15). When we were waiting for our tour we were surprised to see a very large group of American teenagers joining our group (there were at least 30 people in that group alone). This really ruined our visit because it was hard to hear the guide and because there was not enough chocolate to taste.
The visit itself is not that interesting, you first get to see a film and then you go through the Museum with a guide that pretty much repeats what you saw in the film. Then you get to taste the chocolate (pretty good, especially the dark ones) and again, there was not enough for everyone to try all of the different samples. Then you go up over the factory floor and get to watch it (not too much going on at 17:00). Needless to say that you finish the tour in the shop...
To sum up, go there only if you are in the area and have finished everything else on your list. It is not worth the cost.

Being a chocoholic, the visit to the factory was a must! We booked a tour (essential) and were not at all disappointed - it consisted of a short history of Perugino, how the chocolates/biscuits/sweets are made, the chocolate-making process, a visit to the museum, a chocolate tasting and a walk above a section of the factory in action. The chocolate tastings on offer were very generous and, amongst other samples, we were treated to a taste of a new line of chocolate, which I had to sample three times to make sure it really was as good as first thought! A fascinating and delicious morning!
