“German holiday camp”
Reviewed 22 May 2012 via mobile

Had two weeks at this hotel and never again. It is a really isolated place and without sun there is just nothing to do. They charge 7 pounds to take one to the local centre which is only two miles away. Unless you want to pay 300 pounds per week for a car it really is isolated. One week is enough but two weeks is too much. The hotel has a pool but nothing else.No entertainment in the evenings and after 20.00 the dinner is served there is not much to do after. The breakfast/lunch/dinner is for one hour only a bit like being at school. You will meet Rosie who is running the place and her Mother. I have to say that I lived in Italy for a few years and know the south and Sicily well but this is the most boring hotel ever and I would not recommend it. Try another one!!!!

Had two week stay at Baia del Capo and had a great time. Great homemade food which is delicious and a great host Rosie. Beautiful women in all ways and made us feel at home. The area has amazing views and is a really special place. Free shuttle service to the beach and 7 euro trip to go to Tropea which is the nearest town. From the hotel you can see Sicily the island and trips to Stromboli, Lipari and Panerera. Magical place with food from mamas cuisine and the good weather cannot expect a better holiday. Ignore the comments in review of worst hotel as that is far removed from what we experienced.

We have travelled around the world, and we are sorry to say that this hotel is rated as the very worst that we have experienced. On arrival we had to search for Reception, as there was no signing, there was no welcome just la Signora to show us to our room. That was the end of the contact with hotel staff. No information was provided so we had to look for meal times etc., ourselves, as staff do not understand English. I believe that they have trouble with italian too as they were quite unable to supply water for any meal no matter what language was used. The standard of the food was exceedingly poor.
Breakfast:- Buffet style, Every day the bread was stale, fruit juice? from a machine quite what I can't say. Croissants, only if you were very very quick, never enough to allow for one for each guest. Despite this, breakfast was far preferable to dinner. The standard of the main courses was abysmal, poor quality food very badly cooked. Whilst we accept that local produce should form the majority of the menu, it should be of a much higher standard than achieved here. There was never a dessert on offer. The cook seemed to be limited to "peasant" cooking and little else. Additionally we were charged 30 euros for six days use of the air conditioning, for coffee at every meal except breakfast and for water at every meal. In short, poor service, combined with dreadful food, coupled with surly staff has made certain that we will never return to this hotel in Calabria again.
However not all was bad. If you are looking for a clean attractive hotel, nice pool and gardens and nothing else, then this will be the place for you.
A car is essential here as there are no facilities within easy walking distance.

Stayed here 14 - 28 May, booked through Cosmos.
It is in a very quiet location, mostly couples, and we had a fabulous relaxing two weeks, pretty much doing nothing but sitting, reading and lazeing around.
Lovely small hotel with very nice gardens kept to high standard. Only 38 rooms, mostly single storey looking like bungalows. The rooms are small but ok for a two week holiday and are cleaned every day. We were half board. Continental breakfast and four course dinner in evening.
Breakfast fine, evening meal excellent. Antipasti very good, pasta homemade and fantastic.
HOWEVER, there is always a but !!!
A car is essential. Nothing to do around the hotel, beach about 20 minutes away, no bus or train within easy reach.Rosie (the owner) will mini bus you to places but not always convenient.
More importantly, this is a hotel for german guests. We were the only english people there and although other guests were friendly we felt a little isolated after the pigeon german/english had run out. We speak passable holiday italian so it was not that bad for us. I would stress unless you speak german or italian communicating would be a big problem. Nobody in the hotel spoke english.
I must mention Rosie, the owner. She spoke only italian, worked 18 hours a day and did almost everything, quite often with a considerable likeness to Basil Fawlty. She was great and was a major part of the holiday entertainment in th way that she treated some of the guests.
