L'Antica Vetreria
Reviewed 15 September 2012

We had a wonderful stay at this fully restored glass factory. Our group of 12 took over the main villa. We had 5 bedrooms, all with on suite bathrooms. The main living space is comfortable and spacious. There is also a loft space with additional seating . The kitchen is fully stocked with everything one would need. All we had to buy was the recipes and the food
. This property has many different rentals within the building and this allows folks with smaller groups to stay as well. The owners, Colleen and Tom took us to a local wine tour and we drove carts up the hillside to see the olive trees and the vineyards. They showed us around the town and introduced us to the folks who live in this sleepy village at the top of the hill. That same day they took up to a lovely hilltop town called Panacale. From our villa in Piegaro, we easily made trips to local towns and had lunch, shopped and really got to see and experience Italy. The nights were filed with cocktails by the pool, great meals made family style and lots of laughter in our lovely villa. We stayed in Rome for 2 days prior to coming out and took the train to Chuisi and then caught a cab to Piegaro (about 20 minutes and 30 euros). Some in our group rented cars and this allowed us to get out and explore, using the villa as our home base. We had a lovely time.

Room Tip: The 2 bedroom rental that opens onto the pool is lovely.

Thank you so much for sharing all the lovely things that you enjoyed during your stay in our beautiful Villa! We are so fortunate to be able to share such a sweet little village and also our partnership with the amazing Castello Monte Vibiano Vecchio winery. Their free tour and tasting is a delightful experience and most of our guests think this is a highpoint in their welcoming experience of Umbria. We are so happy you loved everything about your visit with us.
Kind regards, Colleen and Tom

I, along with my mother, sister and 20 yr. old daughter had the pleasure of staying at L'Antica Vetreria from Sept.9, through Sept. 13. This place is absolutely amazing! It is an 8th century old glass factory that has been amazingly restored into 4 apartments and 1 villa. We stayed in La Terrazza, which is the oldest part of the factory, located on the ground level of this beautiful stone building. We even had the original glass ovens still intact in the apartment! The place is mostly all stone, but they have managed to add some modern touches in order to make in comfy. Colleen and Tom, the owner/managers of this place are what really make it a place you want to come back to. They go out of there way to make sure you are well taken care of and have extremely broad knowledge about not only their place, but Piegaro and Umbria as well. I am already planning a trip back to L'Antica Vetreria with my husband...I haven't stopped raving about this place since I got home! I can say with no hesitation that L'Antica Vetreria is a place you will not regret staying. You'll only wish you were there longer!

Lisa, We were so happy to host you and your family members in La Terrazza, the most ancient of our renovated historic glass works. We are blessed to have such a historic property and to be able to have completely modern kitchens and bathrooms for a perfect combination of old and new. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with others! We wish your visit could have been longer for there is so much to see and do within short day trips in Umbria and nearby Tuscany. Do return to us someday!
Kind regards, Colleen and Tom

We stayed here for 5 days and it was exactly what you think of for a true Italian countryside experience. Early in our trip, we stayed in Rome and Florence. Umbria is a beautiful area with many hilltop towns to explore, and Colleen and Tom could not have been more gracious hosts! They really went beyond the typical 'rent our place' proprietors and made our stay very memorable!
We met so many friendly, lovely people both in the village of Piegaro and in the other people staying at L'Antica Vetreria with Colleen and Tom.

Room Tip: There are various configurations of rooms to choose from, depending on your wants/needs.

I cant really recommend this place highly enough, Colleen and Tom are wonderful, hard working hosts. They even do a great introduction tour of the town to orientate new guests. We stayed in il Forno Uno which is huge two bedroom apartment that opens onto the pool. The kitchen was well equipped if you fancy cooking, but with some many excellent value restaurants nearby will need it to make lunch or breakfast. I highly recommend the Wine tour.. was fab .. One of the best holiday rentals we have ever had..
I think it was the attention to detail in every aspect of the apartments that really struck us , from the electrical cabling to the copper heat vent pipes.. beautiful restoration of a 1290 glass blowing factory

Love to go back !

Felt so chilled out during our weeks stay..

Room Tip: depends on the number in the party il Forno Uno is the best for smaller groups, the larger apartment...

Perfect spot for relaxing. Great starting spot for numerous great day trips. Town is simple but perfect from the typical hustle and bustle most of us experience. Wine tour by Tom and Colleen is outstanding.

We spent a week here 7 - 14 July 2012. What an amazing place. Loved every second of it. Living on the edge of the village overlooking the countryside, the apartment was tastefully furnished and very well equiped. The pool was a very welcome respite in the heat. Piegaro is very centrally situated with an easy (and not too long) drive to Cortona, Montepulciano, Florence, Rome, Lago Trasimeno etc. The locals are lovely and how nice to live as one for a short time. Colleen and Tom did everything possible to make sure we were comfortable and happy, even gave us a bottle of wine from their own fridge so we could have a glass by the pool while we waited for the shops to open so we could buy our own. My only disappointment was that I only stayed 1 week and not longer - next time I will!

Room Tip: We had the apartment which opened straight out to the pool, heaven!

L'Antica Vetreria and the hill town of Piegaro is filled with it's own charm and history. My wife and I spent April 28th-May 4th as guests and would highly recommend staying here if you want to experience a slower pace of life away from the tourist filled cities of Italy.

This whole area is filled with small hill towns that have beautiful cathedrals, unque shops, wonderful local artists, wineries and great places to eat all at a pace where you can take time to see the small things. While we were there the hills were filled with all kinds of wild flowers, predominately poppies.

We were one of the first guests of the season and Tom and Colleen were wonderful. They spent one whole day with us, showing us the area. If you are into wine, make sure and ask if they can arrange a tour of their favorite winery.

Again, this is a wonderful place at a much slower pace than Rome, Venice or Florence, but its filled with its own beauty and a lot of friendly people.

Room Tip: They all have there own unquiness, we liked ours by the pool, great evening sunsets.

Dale and Joanie, I know that I sent you a thank you email for this lovely review, but I wanted to share with our readers how much we enjoyed your visit to L'Antica Vetreria and our lovely il Forno apartment beside the pool. It is our joy to take each of our guests on the free wine tour and tasting at the organic, carbon-neutral winery of Castello Monte Vibiano Vecchio. Such an incredible opportunity to share award-winning wines of this noble and historic family who welcome our guests each week. We hope you will return to us again!
