“Excellent accommodation in a traditional fishing village”

We stayed here for one week, and the communication with the owner was very good. Steve also sent us driving directions from Heraklion Airport which were spot on. A welcome pack on arrival, and greeted by Steve and Barb. They went through everything that we needed to know, and on the occassion when we needed advice, we rang Steve and he came straight to us (from his home next door). Very good wifi too.
The villa was excellent and had everything necessary for a comfortable stay. The views were amazing.
As we enjoy walking, we walked to the beach on several occassions. It takes about 45 minutes or maybe longer, as you can't help stopping to take photos and admire the wonderful views. We also ventured a little further on foot to Milatos Caves. It was a hard uphill walk but well worth it. Remember to take a torch! After visiting the caves, we continued uphill (steeply) to Kounali, just in time for the taverna to open! So all in all, it is an ideal villa to stay in if you enjoy walking.
We hired a car so that we could go further afield too. We visited Agios Nikolaos which was a beautiful place. We also took a boat trip from Elounda to Spinalonga (former leper colony) and I would recommend this, although it was a little difficult to climb the rocks.
We spent a day in Heraklion. I'd advise to park at the port for 4euros, and walk up into the town. It was busy, but had a very good market.
Another trip out was the Lassithi Plateau. The road is very steep and winding, so care has to be taken, but what a view! We reached the Diktaion Cave where Zeus was said to have been born. Donkeys could take you up and down the path, but we walked. It was very steep, but the views are worth it. The cave is lit with steps down and again to come back out. It was very interesting. I would advise wearing suitable footwear, and perhaps a shawl as it was chilly in there.
Overall, the scenery on Crete is absolutely stunning. For us, the best part was walking through the olive groves down to Milatos beach early in the morning and strolling along the front. There are several tavernas along the sea front, and we ended up eating at just the one (several times) which we found very good service and food. This was Kohili Taverna and their apple tart with yoghurt and honey was delicious! The food at all the places we chose to eat was excellent. The Cretans know how to cook!
The locals were all very friendly, and we also enjoyed walking through old Milatos village, you really should do this.
All in all, we had a superb holiday, and wish we'd have stayed longer!

“Modern, spacious with fabulous views of sea and countryside”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 November 2013 for a stay in October 2013

We had a fabulous week here towards the end of October. The apartment was spacious, well equipped and had plenty of room for sitting out on either terrace or balcony to enjoy the sun and scenery. Loved experiencing the peace and quiet of the rural setting whilst only being a short distance drive away from beaches and nearby towns. Would recommend Sissi for the restaurants on the waterfront; nearby Milatos (old village) is quaint and picturesque and we also enjoyed a drive into the mountains to historic Milatos cave which is definitely worth a visit. The owners Steve and Barb were very friendly and helpful and were able to give us plenty of useful tips and information about the island. Would definitely visit again.

“Amazing villa with great view”

Firstly, the villa is in excellent condition and everything you would ever need (and more) is provided. The couple that rent it are incredibly helpful and very easy to deal with. The only slight downside about the villa is the location. It is close to both Milatos and Sissi and it is possible to walk there but this can take sometime and in reality to go out in the evening either involves a taxi ride (for those that want a drink) or driving. That being said the villa is really very comfortable and very good value. The shower is amazing and there is good A/C and hot water. There is also a BBQ provided. I would definitely recommend it.
Additionally, there is a swimming pool that can be used (although we did not as we preferred to go to the sea nearby) in the owners property next door.

Liked best: The villa's facilities were incredible.
Liked least: The distance to the nearest town makes it difficult to go out for an evening without either driving or getting a taxi.
