Fourth time , in four years in this beautiful hotel...Me and my family are really fond of this hotel,so i have allready reviewed it judging it as excellent.BUT some things have CHANGED...Lets start with the positives things, the room they gave as was a pool front excellent room that made our holiday much easier with our little daughter having easy access to the swimming pool all day long, and us having the opportunity to rest in our little garden really close to her...Also the evening buffet is really in a good level, with the girls serving always very polite and friendly...But many things have changed this year so that they made us not want to go back...Firstly the reception there are 2 tall ladies, that althought they are not rude , they are fakely polite, without any chance of helping you with your needsthanks god sometimes there was ald staff there and we managed to comunicate..The swimming pool is not being cleaned any more as it used to bethe previous yearsand now i would say is rather dirty.The breakfast although not bad . is poorer, The pool front restaurant, really plastc food with vey bad menu...No activities , when the hotel is far from the town should everynight organise something special..Housekeeping...The room was never really clean, and the evening housekeeping did not exist...So yes a 5 stars hotel for the rooms and location, but for the services, no for sure....The bottle of water costs 4,5 euros as much as greek frappe coffe, and its not free neither in breakfast nor in dinner...The spa my wife told me was ok.I think that a 200 euros hotel per night should treat better its customers, and even more the ones that for the 4th time in 4 years they went back..PS no Wifi internet in 2011??No way

Just came back from Cavo Spada.
Plus:
- Quiet location. Nice clean grounds. Spacious. Never feels crowded.
- Great pool.
- Good reception staff.
- Spacious, comfortable rooms. The rooms with the shared pools are great!
- The a la carte restaurant was great. Book this one night! Andreas, who runs it, is absolutely lovely and will do everything he can for you.

Minus:
- The hotel cuts corners, such as not enough staff. They are stressed and work like mad, so it is not their fault the service is not up to par. Example, we left a water bottle on the floor in the restaurant and three days later it was still there!
- Rooms cleaned late in the afternoon sometimes.
- 20 parasols and sun loungers, for a hotel that had 370 guests. A fight broke out in the pool area. Yes, you read that right. Families actually fought over sun loungers.
- Beach is not for children. We loved it, but bring decent shoes.
- Food is quite ok. The desserts are great. The coffee is awful.

The absolute worst thing about this hotel is the maddening all-inclusive deals and rules. They are silly and complicated, and, I am sure, difficult to get a grip on for the staff and for the guests. A snack bar was included, but if you did not turn up in the five minute window for your little cake and weak coffee then you missed your turn. No staff to ask, nothing. Pathetic. If you are a five star hotel, then you try to make life easier for your guests.

Bottom line: We enjoyed ourselves and made the most of our trip. But we will not be coming back, because that certain something that makes you return was missing. We paid a lot of money for this trip, but we could have spent the money better on a hotel that actually acts five star. It is the small details that define this: candles in the dining room, happy staff (big detail, actually), proper snacks... etc.

Room Tip: Get the room with the private pool.

We would like to respond to some of your comments. Firstly the title you have given to your review can be considered as a misleading one for the readers. You name it 'Not a 5 star hotel'. Of course this is your opinion, however there are ceratin rules and regulations that certify a hotel as a 5 star one. The hotel is definitely a 5 star, not only because there are documents to prove it, but also because of the quality of the service provided. I remind some of your comments that you mention such us the quiet location, Nice clean grounds. Spacious. Never feels crowded, Great pool, Good reception staff, Spacious, comfortable rooms. The rooms with the shared pools are great, The a la carte restaurant was great, Food is quite ok, The desserts are great. These are all your comments and at the same time some characteristics that you do not get to find easily at 5 star hotels. These comments are able to convince many people to visit our hotel

Of course on the other side you did not like the coffe which is something objective as we do not have other guests complaining about that. You are also mentioning about the limited staff. Obviously, you must have travelled on the high season which is the busiest one. It might have been the case that the staff was quiet busy at that season and the stress is something that happens all around the world. Some people copy with that and do not show it ,some other cannot copy with it and it is obvious on them. Of course, the not smiling comment is not good, however we do not believe that this is always the case as many people comment the opposite. The rooms are cleaned in the morning however sometimes it is the case to clean them in the afternoon as we provide double service too. The parasols and sun loungers have been increased as we have bought more, however you must also consider the damages we have every season on them and the time we need to replace them.

We were staying from 9th July till 16th July.
First, we had half board, but we soon discovered that the hotel is located outside the center (although the two restaurants are quite close, but they does not look too edible).
So we switched to all-inclusive. They have a huge pool (deep is only 1.10 m)
Rooms are very spacious, clean, we had a view of the garden, there is nothing wrong with that, very quiet.
The best choice was for breakfast (several types of jam, Nutella, eggs, various salamis, cheeses, sausages, muffin etc).
Lunch fewer options and also for dinner, but you can find something to eat, if nothing else there are always spagetti :)
For snacks (both morning and afternoon) you will have the Muffin, Brownie, tea, coffee, juice, water, little sendwiches, poor choices.
If you want to experience the pulse of the city, then this hotel is not suitable for you.
Very wavy sea, not for young children (families), the better you are at the pool. Due to a lack of sun loungers at the pool, is the best to get there around 6 am otherwise somebody else will occupy your place.
You are required to pay 10 euros for a towel security that you get back on the last day, you can change every day for free towel.

We were not happy with
- Waiters are very slow in serving drinks at lunch and dinner (almost always happened to us that we had already eaten a meal and the waiter then came to ask what we want for drink), they look very busy, although not many people
- Charges are for the indoor pool (10 euros / visit in a week I saw no apprenticeship)
- Additional charge for sauna.

Fitness is free and have good machines to use.

I would like to recommend sending your entire staff to a school or something similar so they can learn what the meaning of good service is!!!!
You should also consider taking off 3-4 stars from your hotel rating,considering the service i have experienced is closer to that of 1 star hotel!!! The one thing worthy of 5 stars is the architecture and general appearance , all else falls short! When one pays a considerable amount,expecting the comforts of 5 star amenities,it is maddening to experience such poor service almost aggravating enough to ruin my entire vacation.

We believe that your review is very general and does not specify any event that explains your dissapointment on the service provided from our staff. It is really hard for someone to believe that no one from the entire staff provided a good service. The hotel runs since 2008, and is a five star hotel which is operating according to ISO and quality management procedures. In any case if you are not happy with the service we would like to ask you to comment on some specific issues in order to give us the opporunity to explain, excuse ourselves and finally improve that service.

This hotel is very new and well-located, right on the beach. It has the potential to be a true 5 star, however unfortunately the service is not up to scratch. We chose not to bring our laptops, so that we would be less readily available to work while on holiday. We did however need to check our emails every day. So when we arrived we purchased a 5 hour internet voucher to use. The computer which we were provided with to use was unbelievably unusable. It was a touchscreen with no keyboard, so impossible to quickly write emails. It took me 35 minutes to check one email the connection was so slow. The touchscreen also seemed to get confused, so that even if I wasn't typing a message, it misread my instructions (where I wanted to go).

After that, I discussed the impossibility of using this system with 3 people, the last being the manager, before finally they agreed to instal a keyboard. The keyboard didn't help much as the touchscreen was still impossible to use and the connection incredibly slow.

In the meantime, normal, usable computers with keyboards were installed in the hotel. The hotel staff didn't want to know about it though. They refused to refund our first purchase of 5 hours, we were stuck using the ridiculous computer unless we paid again to use the newbies. We therefore had to pay an extra 6 euros per hour just to use the net.

This sounds like a minor issue, and it should have been, but we spent a number of additional hours fussing around with a useless computer, where the hotel could have provided us with a better service. The staff were not interested at all. This is not the service of a 5 star hotel.

A final point is, that the rooms are spacious and clean. However they are not properly ventilated which means that after a shower, they remain extremely moist and humid.

We would like to respond to some of your comments regarding the internet service provided at our hotel. As you mention at the beginning the service provided was not really user friendly and it took you a lot of time to fulfill your tasks. However, from your statement we consider a fast response from the hotel by purchasing new pc's in order to assist you in a better way. That could easily be considered a five star service in our point of view. If the money was not refunded from your first usage as you mention then you should accept our apologies for that. It might have been the case that your 5 hrs time had been expired and the staff did not have the authority to refund any money because of that. Anyway as you already have mentioned this is a minor issue and it is obvious that the hotel is now able to sort out issues like that.

It is very important for us the cleanliness of the rooms that you mention as well as the the space they provide, which both can be considered characteristics of five star hotels service. The ventilation system exists, however it is centrally and is operating at specific hours which are considered as peak times.

I've stayed at Cavo Spada with my boyfriend for 2 weekes and we will remember that vacations forever - we have got engaged there :)
I think that hotel is modern and well designed, rooms are comfortable and spacious, all areas are clean, including swimming pool and beach. The hotel and restaurant staff were nice, helpfull despite the end of season.
I loved the beach and sea - amazing clean water, not to many people which allowed us to relax and read books :) I must admit that it is hard to walk without shoes becouse of stones - but you can buy it for 5 euro at every shop near by.
Food was excellent and I realy enjoyed eating under the stars (taras).
I can recomeneded that hotel for people who are looking for quiet hotel to relax and forget about crowd, it is also good place for trip base - renting a car is the best solution to see real Create.

we stayed there for 2 nights, i think is the best hotel on island of crete..We wil return next year for sure..
