We went to Avra on a 1-week kind of 'honeymoon' in August 2014 and were very pleased. The hotel is the biggest resort in Kolymbari, which we liked a lot as it is a quite place by the sea, still preserving a bit of genuine Cretan village life.
The hotel is worth its prices. It is big, yet extremely well-organised.The rooms are very spacious and clean, and were kept as such throughout our stay. We were of half-board and we appreciated a lot the possibility of switching dinner for lunch. The food was amazing: diverse, plenty and the dining rooms were never busy. We liked the fact that there were Cretan traditional dishes (greatly recommend).
The spa was spacious, clean and never busy. There are a lot of pools within the hotel; it was almost hard to get away from them and go to the beach. The beach is across the street, never crowded either and sunbeds and towels provided by the hotel.
It is indeed a great place to come with your kids and there were many children, yet not noisy or bothering you in any way. Entertainment during the evening at the bar was elegant, not disturbing the others.
Thank you, Avra Imperial. If Greece had not offered so many nice places to visit that you need more than 1 life, we would definitely come back.
