We stayed in the luxury tents. We were a group of 8 and had absolutely no complaints. What an awesome weekend. Highly recommended. Oewerzicht offers something else at a very reasonable price - great value for money. We loved the tents, the peace&quiet, and also, the local dogs who were always around. Saturday night we had a bit of rain but this did not spoil the experience - in fact, we loved listening to the rain from our tent. There were no children part of our group, but we noticed families staying at the cottages and it seemed like they had a great time. Greyton is a unique town and Oewerzicht is defintely worth a visit. We are already planning our next visit!

Room Tip: We loved the luxury tents!

Most of our guests are regulars, and we welcome them back time and again! Our boxer, Katy, and English bulldog, Stella, can't wait for guests to arrive on a weekend, and disappear for hours (if not all night) when finding kids or other dogs to play with. (Our cottages are pet friendly!)

We stayed at one of the Uitsig houses for two nights for our wedding anniversary. Unfortunately we did not realise how far away from the rest of the farm it was and would've preferred staying in one of the much more scenic and apparently newer cottages down by the river. The roads were in a poor condition due to the floods - which is obviously not their fault, but a warning beforehand would've been nice.

One the main reasons we chose Uitsig, was for the pool. However, it was very small and green most of the time, so don't expect your standard pool. Frogs also tend to love it in the evening...

A lot of effort was initially put into the decor, but it seems as if it's been a long time since maintenance has been done. Walls were dirty and full of mosquito marks. The buildings outside look very worn and neglected.

And yes, there are mosquitoes and lots of flies. Which is understandable since it's a farm, but the fly traps were full, obviously not ever removed or cleaned and the stench was so bad, we had to move it away from the pool. Lots of spiders at the braai area so bring along the bug spray!

We loved the "outdoor" shower, but both toilets had trouble flushing.

On the upside, staff were all very helpful. They did come to clean the pool a bit and a fresh farm bread was delivered on the second day. All very nice touches, but Oewerzicht needs to step up on maintenance on the Uitsig cottages.

We paid more than R350-00 per person per night for our stay and this was definitely not what one would expect for the money.

Our Uitsig cottages have had an awesome face-lift, and the pool next to Uitsig 1 is regularly maintained and kept sparkling clean. Unfortunately the floods were very severe earlier this year, and it was a difficult period to maintain the roads (the municipality have a strict schedule that they keep to) and the pool during that time.
Each cottage is individually decorated, and everyone has a different favourite!
Fly traps are situated around the farm and close to all the cottages for maxim,um effect, and fly spray is supplied to all the cottages and tents.
Flies and mozzies are only prevalent during certain times of the year, and can be found in and around all of Greyton!

We picked Oewerzicht after doing an online search for accommodation around Greyton that would allow us to bring our Labrador, but was preferably not in the town itself. It proved a good choice, and we had a 'Greyt' Greyton weekend.

We stayed in the 'Uitsig' cottages, which are on the opposite side of the river to the (dirt) road, above the camping area, and elevated a little on the hill. The views of the Sonderend mountains are lovely, and although the cottages are close together, they have been designed carefully, and the deep stoeps with built-in braais are offer shelter and privacy. The en-suite bathrooms off the main bedrooms offer a sunken shower with sliding door that opens onto a private, enclosed rock garden, allowing one to have an "inside shower with the outside feeling" - a nice touch. The open-plan kitchen and lounge area are equipped with a rustic but comfortable feel.

At just under 10km from Greyton, Oewerzicht was the perfect distance for a relaxed mountain bike ride into town (with dog running alongside) on the Saturday morning for the famous Gretyon Morning Market (Saturdays 10h00-12h00). We found an alternate route back for part of the way which involved fording the river and exploring small paths. For more serious riders, there is a 25km MTB trail on the farm, and plenty of room to ride the farm roads. The small pool was warm and big enough to cool off in, but don't expect to do lengths.

The luxury tents and other cottages on either side of the river look lovely, but are also quite close together. The surrounding lawns look fabulous for children to play, as does the well-appointed camp site on the river. One detractor for us, however, was that although the Uitsig cottages are built a little way up the hill above the road, they directly overlook the camp site and so are in direct line for any noise from the campers. While the merry shrieks of children playing is generally not a problem, we endured some boys playing for hours on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning on a mini dirt bike, which is about as quaint as a chainsaw. We're all for encouraging kids to take responsibility, play hard and get dirty, but it was a bit annoying at times. I'm sure this is not a regular feature, but be aware that you're not in the remote, lonesome wilderness - different strokes for different folks. The owners were very willing to let me fly my powered paraglider from one of their fields (although circumstances eventually prevented this) and seem like very friendly and accommodating people.

Take along mosquito/insect repellent if going in the warm months - despite being a little away from the river, there were lots of bugs. In winter, I suspect it will be cold but cosy, quiet and beautiful.

Room Tip: The pool is next to Uitsig 1, so if you are intent on swimming or want the children nearby, this may be a good choice.

The Uitsig cottages are a very popular choice for most of our guests with children, as the pool is nearby and the river is 100m away, just over the dust road on the other side of the camp site. We do not encourage motorbikes and noisy vehicles or guests, and if complaints are made, we will attend to them immediately!
The farm is a peaceful, tranquil get-away, but kids will be kids, and laughter and fun in the background is always an welcoming additional on the odd weekends!

We travelled there for the first time for our Christmas holiday and stayed in the Uitsig apartments, although the people were great we had the following issues….

Service was not great, communication was not great, tons – yes tons – of flies, fleas and other bugs.

One thing I was rather disappointed in as well was the pool, on the site it looks so big but its nothing more than a splash pool. Don’t go to the uitsig apartments if you have kids, there is nothing for them to do there and there is a road that separates Uitsig from everything else.

Room Tip: Do not stay in the Uitsig apartments if you have kids, they will be bored out of their minds.

Our self-catering cottages are a very popular choice with most of our regularly returning guests, and the kids love to splash in the pool and swim and go fishing in the Sonderend river.
The farm is a perfect place for kids to reconnect with nature, and they just love the adventurous tractor rides around the farm.
Cell phone signal is not very good on the farm, but this adds to the stress-release factor of a peaceful setting, so leave the city worries behind!

I don't really want to write this review. I would prefer Oewerzicht's profile was not bolstered - to improve my chances of being able to get future bookings. But the people of Oewerzicht are just too darn nice! and I feel obliged to do so.

The accommodation provides one of the best value for money options in the Western Cape. Cute cottages open up to green lawns and a spectacular view across a clear river to mountains.

We came a bit unprepared but the owners wanted to give us some delicious lamb chops and we only paid for them after insisting on it.

We have just booked our second stay here with a group. Again, we have found the owners/staff of Oewerzicht to be really decent and generous (after some of the members of our group cancelled with 7 days notice).

Oewerzicht farm is an unexpected oasis here in Greyton....and we just LOVE kids, pets and people, and will do our best to make a visit to the farm unforgettable!
Chicken pies, the best Overberg boerewors, Ginger beer, koeksisters and malva pudding are the order of the day, and can be purchased here on the farm.
