The road out of quaint Greyton changes from tarmac to dirt, but smooth surface and fine for an ordinary car. The hills on your left rirse sharply and dramatically as you pass along a rolling landscape. The Oaks Estate is on your right, about 10 minutes out of the town, closer to the road than we expected. Once inside the grounds you begin to appreciate the magnificent restoration job. The 'before' and 'after' show how much attention has gone into making this a splendid place for a stay. We stayed in what I' describe as the 'loft' area. There's a long and narrow communal space with cooking facilities, tables and comfy chairs. There are three bedrooms which lead off this area, so you'll be meeting your neighbours.
The room we stayed in was smallish but lovely, with great walk-in shower. Warm welcome, great hospitality and now home-made bread (keep it up Lutin). You can go walking on the farm and get great close up views of the mountains. Good WiFi where we were, though variable strength. Plenty of places to eat in Greyton, or visit the farmers' market on Saturday morning. It's a busy place but it's called Grey-ton for a reason. (I'm also 'grey'.)
You'll need your own transport to get to Greyton. Do visit - it's a wonderful place. Thanks to Marianne, Gert (junior) and Lutin. We trust Gert (senior) completed the Cape Cycle Ride without being blown off ...
