“Rustic but delightful”
Reviewed 15 May 2014

My husband and I stayed in one of the cottages at the Oaks in April 2014. The cottage is very rustic, with cement floors, distressed walls and odd furniture, This all added to the wonderful feelings of yesteryear but with many modern shabby chic additions. Beautiful quilts, comfortable beds and all the mom cons that one needs for a great weekend away. An indoor braai and TV make our stay special.
The area is very special, a lovely long walk into the mountains to a derelict homestead, stray kitties to love, great food in the village. Beautiful well kept surroundings.
The Oaks offers great accommodation but we choose to be in the cottage and glad we did. It was a wonderful weekend and Linton was a star. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Room Tip: The cottage was great...

The road out of quaint Greyton changes from tarmac to dirt, but smooth surface and fine for an ordinary car. The hills on your left rirse sharply and dramatically as you pass along a rolling landscape. The Oaks Estate is on your right, about 10 minutes out of the town, closer to the road than we expected. Once inside the grounds you begin to appreciate the magnificent restoration job. The 'before' and 'after' show how much attention has gone into making this a splendid place for a stay. We stayed in what I' describe as the 'loft' area. There's a long and narrow communal space with cooking facilities, tables and comfy chairs. There are three bedrooms which lead off this area, so you'll be meeting your neighbours.

The room we stayed in was smallish but lovely, with great walk-in shower. Warm welcome, great hospitality and now home-made bread (keep it up Lutin). You can go walking on the farm and get great close up views of the mountains. Good WiFi where we were, though variable strength. Plenty of places to eat in Greyton, or visit the farmers' market on Saturday morning. It's a busy place but it's called Grey-ton for a reason. (I'm also 'grey'.)

You'll need your own transport to get to Greyton. Do visit - it's a wonderful place. Thanks to Marianne, Gert (junior) and Lutin. We trust Gert (senior) completed the Cape Cycle Ride without being blown off ...

We went to Greyton for a weekend wedding and booked into The Oaks hoping to simply be close to the wedding farm. Little did we expect such a lovely gem of a B&B! Marianne and Gert have restored the expansive old farmstead with sympathy to it's history and heritage but also using the opportunity to instill discreet modern amenities which mean this is now a luxurious well appointed piece of Cape heaven away from the maddening crowd. Beautiful bedrooms in the loft conversion with a the small touches that make the difference: fluffy towels, fresh flowers, toiletries, gourmet breakfasts, incredible attention to detail and perfect service. An absolute find - already planing to go back!
