Lovely setting, excellent service and sublime food.
Peter and Mariana have got IT exactly right.
This is Michelin star food, and very reasonably priced.
The ingredients are local with most being sourced close to Stanford.
I wish that I could eat there more often.

I read that Capetonians readily make the two hour drive to Mariana's..and now I know why.Eating here is like being invited to have lunch at a friend's house where the wife is a legendary cook and the husband a wonderful host. Don't expect to rush, instead enjoy the leisurely (but highly professional) ethos of the perfect country restaurant. This is shabby chic in a good way; a lovely old cottage in the picture perfect village of Stanford with an electrically furnished shady terrace overlooking the kitchen garden. The abundance of garden and local ingredients and wines are a feature of a daily changing menu. It isn't fussy gourmet overload but the sort of delicious, imaginative food you wish you could eat every day. Everything we ordered was fabulous however the most homely choice; chicken pie (made to Mariana's granny's recipe) was the star turn. Outstanding food, engaging hospitality and incredible value for money. I'll be getting my reservation in early for next year.

We last lunched here several years ago and during a relaxed month of February in Hermanus we had the chance to go back. What do you say? Some of the best food again that we have eaten anywhere, much of it from the garden, flavours incomparable- whoever thought of of clementimes with confit de canard?- with great service and Peter, husband and maitre d' adding, humour, spice and a special explanation of all the food on offer. Absolutely wonderful way to enjoy a relaxed lunch- that is what it is about as you cannot hurry the pleasure.

Repeat visit , we knew to expect the best and were not disappointed.
In addition to Mariana's exquisite dishes we get entertainment as a bonus:Peter is a born raconteur. This A team creates a very relaxed, joyous ambiance, the weather usually obliges too After lunch we are even invited to visit the garden ,from which Mariana picks vegetables and herbs for her dishes to complement other highest quality ingredients.
When the meal is over the clientele tends to linger on, talk to Mariana and Peter as though we were at friends party. Perfect!
