Marianas is a gourmet landmark in Stanford, the food is honest and delicious. Mariana does all the cooking and her charming husband handles the front of house.

The place is small and I doubt she can cater than more than 50 per sitting - however it is so popular, so be prepared and book well in advance.

We sat out side on the small stoep overlooking the vegetable and herb garden. The menu is based on what is available so you are assured of the freshest produce.

My main was a pork dish and it was absolutely delicious, the pork just melted in my mouth. The starter was a lovely barley salad and the dessert was one of the most delicious pear cakes I have ever tasted.

The meal was accompanied by some local wine. A really lovely venue and do not let the opportunity to enjoy country hospitality combines with wonderful food pass you by. People travel many km's to eat at Marianas and now I know why !

This is the sort of experience that puts your belief in the human race firmly back in place! Lovely people, utilizing the best local produce, producing top quality "honest-to-goodness" food with that very special personal twist - that of, as Mariana humbly puts it, the "Cape cook"!

Go there, sit back and enjoy the ride - you will not regret it!

Many things contribute to making Marianas special: the drive through the countryside and then through the quiet village of Stanford; the peace and quiet you experience while sitting on the verandah listening to the birds and looking out onto the lovely garden; Pieter, the perfect host, who will have you chuckling when he describes the dishes on the chalkboard menu; the complimentary jug of water.

And then there’s the food which chef/owner Mariana humbly describes as home cooking. There is some truth in this, the food is honest, unpretentious and tastes wholesome, but it is certainly not average home cooking. The menu is so interesting that it was difficult to decide what to eat, everything sounds so delicious. My hubby cannot stop talking about the duck confit with lentils, according to him the best duck confit he has ever had. And I absolutely loved the roulade with a stuffing of spinach and goats cheese.

We left feeling nurtured by the good food and the surroundings, and with a locally produced salami to enjoy later on.

Simply one of the best food dstinations in the Cape. A smallish, changing daily menu of magnificent flavours, textures and style. A husband and wife team, with her doing the cooking (if that word can describe the heaven-sent results from the kitchen) and he recommending wine pairings, entertaining with anecdotes and generally providing faultless service.
Be warned, you will have to book, and probably a month in advance during the summer season. But the garden cottage setting, exclusive service (they only take about 20 guests), aromas from the kitchen and then the ultimate in food presentation are not to be missed. Exquisite.

This was our second visit to Marianas in three weeks with friends from Capetown who had been looking forward to a meal at Marianas for weeks. They were not disappointed, neither were we. The barley salad and the soup starters were really well presented and absolutely delicious. There is a good choice of main courses and the fish curry and the springbok pie's were really good. The vegan chick pea and spinach dish was fantastic. And the puddings were also great. The whole process took quite a long time - you don;t need to be in a hurry - but that is the whole objective of a fine, gourmet meal served in a relaxed atmosphere.
We're already planning our next visit.
