“Always a treat”

We love the Birkenhead brewery and always make an effort to get to the brewery when we are in the Hermanus area. Well worth the trip. The beer tasting is a must in order to determine your favourite and then sit down with a full glass over your favourite over lunch. All the beers are great but Honey Blonde is a firm favourite amongst our friends and family. Make an effort to be there over lunch time as they make one of the best beer pies I’ve tasted.

“Beautiful Setting”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 November 2013

We called for a spot of lunch and to visit the Winemaker of the Estate. We had a lovely lunch, we did some wine tasting, which was fantastic and the setting is really something that should not be missed if you happen to be in the area. Highly recommended.

“Top spot for wine and beer tasters”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 November 2013

Beautifully indoor and outdoor setting with mountain backdrop. Where better to taste both wines and beers. Enjoyed lunch of homemade soup and beer beef pie was also much loved of a small but varied menu that caters for different tastes. Good service. Would recommend a stop here.

“Great place to relax with a good beer”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 November 2013

It's a great brewery with a nice selection of beers, wines and ciders. Top pics for the beers are the chocolate stout and the honey blonde. The atmosphere is really relaxed and very inviting with a beautiful view of the mountains in the area. The staff is always friendly and welcoming. I like to come here during one of my days off and have a couple beers and burgers with friends, and have never been disappointed. Definitely worth a visit, even if you are just driving through the area.

“Beautiful view to have a beer”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 October 2013

We visited the Birkenhead brewery with my dad recently, after having pleasant visits at before.

The beer tasting is a bit on the expensive side (R60 for 6 beers), but worth trying out if you haven't tasted their beers yet! Otherwise I would recommend to rather just order your favorite beer - more value for money.

We also had really slow service, which could be due to the place being packed (seems like Birkenhead is a really popular destination when it's called and rainy in Hermanus), or lack of staff. There was also a bachelors party at the same time, which might have taken up the staff's attention.

On previous occasions we were impressed with the food, but was a bit let down this time. The food tasted good, but lacked a bit in presentation, and very much represented pub grub. Not even a little leaf or tomato to brighten up your plate.

Being a fan of Birkenhead, and usually recommending this to others, I really found this visit just plain average. That said, the scenic view from the Birkenhead bar is breathtaking and well worth a visit.
