Description: Fabulously situated on the Stanford Wine Estate (on the R43 in Stanford), this organic vegetable garden kitchen was recommended to us by locals & was a fabulous find. A glass of chilled sauvignon blanc & a simple but excellent lunch whilst watching the coots play on the small lake in front of the kitchen. A rustic paradise situated between the whale watching at Hermanus and De Kelders.

beautiful setting. Service can be a little slow sometimes.

Sunday lunch at Madre's Kitchen is a must to try. I didn't expect to find such quality in such a small town, but hey, surprises lurk around every corner. The setting is beautiful and the atmosphere so relaxed. I seems that the menu changes often, which means the produce is fresh. I had the vanilla duck with green beans, butternut shavings and hanepoot (muscat d'alexandrie) grapes. All was delicious, the duck very tough though. My lunch partner had the osso buco with creamy polenta - the ideal Sunday comfort food dish! The Sir Robert wines are easy and quaffable. All and all worth the drive to escape the hustle and bustle of Cape Town and much less touristy than Hermanus. Service? Um... let's just say you have to remember where you are and why you're there and it won't bother you.

Lovely setting on an old historic farm very near to the village of Stanford and an easy 20 minutes drive from Hermanus.

Ambience : Rustic and relaxing. Seating is outside overlooking beautiful mountains and a dam filled with traditional waterblommetjies ( waterflowers).

Food : Each individual item, meat, vegetable, fruit, fresh bread etc was of the highest quality and made fresh. Bread are freshly baked every day in a wood fired oven outside. The portions were generous and our plates were beautifully plated with care and attention to detail.

Shopping : Wines from the farm are sold in the wine shop on site and a farm shop selling gifts and kitchen wares are near to the eating area.

Service : Was good. Madre, the owner, took time to come and chat with us, which was a very nice touch.

We will definitely return. Recommended for the atmosphere and the wonderful food.

The location and the view do not get any better than this wonderfully relaxed Country Kitchen. The ambience is warm and welcoming, the fresh food is wonderful and the wines are excellent. You will be sitting in the shade, with a large pond between you and the view of the mountains only to be interrupted by the geese occasionally ambling around the waters edge. It is what I call perfection! We were lucky enough to be guests last night for a fantastic Valentines Night treat with Oysters, Sparkling Wine, Wonderful Lamb and fruit with a superb chocolate dipping sauce......wow...
