What was about to be a disaster of a weekend trip to McGregor was saved by the wonderful Jill. Our party of 5 had booked self catering accommodation in the town and to cut a long story short, it wasn’t what was advertised. Our option was either to drive home (3 hours away in 40 degrees) or head to the Visitors Bureau. The staff phoned Jill to explain our situation and she was so accommodating – arranging a fridge for our food and making plans for 2 of the party way beyond the call of duty.

The accommodation is in cottages – 2 ensuite bedrooms separated by an entrance hall – and they are lovely.

And let’s not forget the gorgeous food that Tiger prepares! We were fortunate to be there over a weekend when the Inn provides evening meals and the food was delicious.

Jill, Tiger, Denzel (the very important poodle) and Clinton (Tiger and Jill’s son – and yes, he knows the rank and order of the household coming in behind Denzel!) could not have been more welcoming and accommodating – they definitely know how to do hospitality!

Green Gables fits perfectly in the wonderfully quaint village of McGregor - lovely setting, beautiful historic home - most gracious hosts - attention to detail par excellence! We were lucky enough to book a Wed night - when Jill and Tiger open their home to the village for an amazing candlelit dinner party - delicious fare prepared by Tiger, (W,Thurs,Fri for dinner- Sunday brunch) - stunningly presented by Jill - most enjoyable dinner guest - all in all, an unforgettable evening. Breakfast on the terrace - WOW! South Africa has some the best B&Bs on the planet - this is one of them - thanks J&T!

This was my third time at what was formerly knows as Old Mill Lodge and my first stay with present owners Jill and Tiger.

Some refurbishments have taken place but the rustic feeling is the same, Mc Gregor is a unique village with its beautiful setting and old houses. And so friendly!

Jill and Tiger were very helplful and accomodating and even baked a cake and sang for one of us who had a birthday. Even their dog sang for him!

We were totally 9 friends and family staying at Green Gables Country Inn for three and four days. On the night of arrival our hosts Jill and Tiger served a fantastic Braai as a welcome dinner. The welcoming was warm and it felt like we had come home to old friends, even the dog Denzel was singing for us.
In the mornings we were served fantastic breakfasts either on the terrace facing towards wine ranks and the village, or inside in the beautiful dining room.
For the rest of the evenings we had dinner in excellent restaurants in Mc Gregor, recommended by Jill and Tiger.
On Christmas day our hosts arranged a fantastic Christmas day lunch, where more than 60 persons attended. It was a wonderful experience similar to our Swedish Midsummer Party.
During our stay we also had a nice time at the pool in the afternoons after walking around in the surroundings or visiting various wine yards in the rather big Robertson wine district.
The accommodation was good in small two room houses or in a big house with self-catering opportunity.
Our main impression was very good and we hope to come back some day again!

We visited McGregor for the Ride2nowhere this weekend and were looking for some self catering accommodation. I found the reviews on Trip Advisor and booked. Jill recommended we book the cottage which was huge with a kitchen, separate bathroom and masses of room for our bikes. Although we had seen fantastic reviews for the breakfast we were a bit dissappointed to miss it but our cycle race started at 8am and breakfast is only served from 9am at Green Gables. McGregor is a great little town with beautiful cottages and plenty of really good restaurants. We were sorry not to eat at Green Gables but will do so next year when we book there again.

I have been staying at Green Gables for several years and the key thing that stands out is the amazing view and incredible breakfast and attention to detail in the morning. Sitting at the very top of the town, you are able to take in a breathtaking view of the village of Mcgregor and surrounding hills, with the dramatic Langeberg mountains in the background. I have attached a very amateur photograph of this experience which does not really do justice but is an indicator of what you will see. The hosts are amazing, the service excellent, the food home cooked and tasty - what more could you ask for. On top of this dinner in the restaurant is amazingly unique and homely and unforgettable. If you do stay in the lovely and magical town of Mcgregor, then stay at Green Gables.

We had the leasure of staying Green Gables on a recent vacation to Cape Town.

My Cape Town friend, who knows the owners Tiger & Jill, arranged the trip on our middle weekend.

Tiger and Jill run a beautiful business in the charming surroundings of Mcgregor and the countryside. Our rooms were clean and comfortable and the grounds well laid out. We made full use of the swimming pool (the temperature reached 41c on the Sunday) and swam in the local dam.

Breakfast on the terrace was a visually stunning and mouthwatering full English. The view out over their vineyard and the mountains is to die for.

Tiger and Gill are gracious and attentive hosts and their lovely honesty bar is styled after an English Pub. Denzil the singing poodle was the icing on the cake.

The drive out from CapeTown was an easy 90 minutes and the charm of Mcgregor and Green Gables is well worth it
