Hi, I can wholeheartedly recommend a stay at Green Gables. I stayed for 3 nights with my husband, brother and sister in law earlier this month. From our arrival and meeting Clinton, who incidentally can offer you a wealth of advice should you be looking to live there, we went to our beautiful rooms. We had the very large room with self catering kitchen which was beyond beautiful. High thatched roof, antiques, pictures, roll top bath- so South African. Your hosts are Tiger and Jill, great couple, warm, affectionate, entertaining, we felt just like part of the family.
The bar is run on honesty, good selection, just write your tab down in the book and help yourself.
Breakfast was on the terrace each morning, beautifully laid out with bright linen and fresh roses, fruit salad, sausage, egg, bacon, tomatoes, mushrooms, toast, coffee - all lovely and cooked by Tiger. Dinner available on Weds and Saturday nights! very popular and the bar/dining room fills with local people as well and a great party atmosphere, homemade soups, curries, fish and calamari combo.
Also a very lovely poodle called Denzil who does a great howling/singing act in exchange for a saucer of milk.
McGregor is an oasis of calm, walk, hire bikes and absorb being somewhere reminiscent of former times.
Big thank you to Tiger and Gill for making a very very pleasant break.
