“A Cut Above The Rest”

What a wonderful experience...where to start?

Coming around true bend and seeing the Lodge on the hill is a breathtaking view. From the moment you book in to the day you leave you are treated like friends. The views are unsurpassed , the rooms are beautiful, spacious and romantic. We loved the percale bedding, fire place with wood supplied, the double shower and once again the views.

The pub at the pool is the perfect place to meet interesting locals and have a glass of wine before you move onto dinner. The restaurant has an old world charm with a huge fire place, white table cloths and candle light. The food, from breakfast to dinner were wonderful, freshly prepared and beautifully presented. We had the most amazing thinest pizza base ever prepared by their lovely cook Pamela, the pizza queen.

The Lodge is a 4* but at the end of the day it is just a beautiful property what makes it, is the hosts, Matt and Colin. the push the 4* to a 5*

Highly recommended!!!!

Room Tip: we love the suites with your own lounge and verandah

From the moment we arrived we felt at home by Colin and Mat.

We stayed in a cottage named Cameron and our friends in a cottage named Mc Gregor near by the bar and restaurant.
In the cottages there's a bedroom sitting area with fire place and a bathroom.

The food was excellent and also were the wine and drinks. We've danced with Mat and Colin and they showed us the "African farmers dance".
It is a perfect place to stay! Very quiet and a marvelous view!!! Mc Gregor and Robertson are nearby with galeries and some restaurants.
It's a place to visit again some time!
Mat and Colin thanks for your warm welcome!

From the moment we arrived to a warm welcome we felt at home by Colin, Matt and the whole team.
All of the buildings are made from stone with thatched roofs and include sprung wooden flooring.
We had magnifent views of the snow topped mountains in the distance.

We stayed in a stand alone thatched cottage a short walk from the bar and restuarant.
This consisted of a bathroom, bedroom sitting area, and fire place with a wooden stoop that had outstanding views.

The food in the restuarant was excellent at reasonable prices as were the wine and drinks.

This is the perfect place if you want peace and quiet, but within a stones throw from McGregor for shops and restuarants and numerous wine farms.

All in all a cracking weekend and we plan to return next month.

I stayed at Lord's in August 2011 for the Robertson Slow Wine Festival. I was part of a group so knew nothing about the accommodation until I arrived. The facilities are lovely, beautiful views, rooms are clean and well decorated so no complaint there.

I found the food mediocre and the attitude of the staff poor. An incident on our first night, inolving one of our party and the owner, put a damper on the entire weekend. There are two sides to every story and while I think that both parties had a valid point, I believe that the matter was badly handled by the owner/management. I felt it was unprofessional and uncalled for and on that basis I would not return to this facility.

Macgregor is a unique place to visit. And this establishment (with its Lady Jane Grey restaurant) is without doubt the best place to stay when you do. Macgregor itself is a village of extraordinary variety: art (real art) and crafts, pubs, cafes and bistros as well as the Temenos retreat centre with its beautiful meditation-garden, theatre/cinema and library. The Lodge, perched on a hill outside the village, is unique. The whole place – the reception hall, restaurant and bar-lounge, conference centre and chapel for weddings, as well as the guest-rooms and cottages, are built of local stone with wooden beams and thatch. The place is surrounded by a sea of fynbos (indigenous Cape flora) and an enormous view of rolling hills and misty mountains. You could be in Scotland - except for the wonderful Karoo weather. The guest-rooms are spacious and gracious, with heaters as well as open fires for winter. And the restaurant, run by a dedicated culinary couple, is stunning. Unusual but delicious (and inexpensive) local wines complete a culinary treat. Even breakfast, served on the terrace overlooking a glowing garden, is special, every item perfectly prepared and presented. The Lodge can sleep eighteen and the restaurant can seat eighty.

Room Tip: The rooms are in cottages, if you do not walk comfortably, choose one nearby the restaurant.
