My wife and have just returned to Canada after a month in the Western Cape...one of the highlights was our 3 night stay in McGregor. This is a great base to visit many of the excellent wineries and towns nearby. All of the reviews are authentic...Nicolaas is an engaging host that provides good advice on restaurants, wineries and sites of interest....would return tomorrow !

We stumbled upon this beautiful Lodge and were welcomed by the wonderful Nicolaas. Beautiful accommodation and a scrummy breakfast with home made croissants and apricot jam made from the apricots on the trees in their garden (we bought some to take home with us - delicious)! Nicolaas reserved us a table at the quaint Karoux restaurant in the even quainter Main Road!! We loved our short stay and would definitely go back. No hesitation in recommending Old Village Lodge!!

From the moment we arrived at Old Village Lodge we knew we had chosen the very best. The beautifully maintained exterior of the building was just a taste of what was to follow. The room was perfectly appointed with the additional pleasure of a garden-facing patio to enjoy the last rays of late afternoon sunshine,on return to the guesthouse following a busy day exploring the interesting village & Robertson.
As a keen gardener I was enthralled with the various plant/fruit tree combinations and my only regret was not to be in McGregor in November for the apricot season as Nicolaas has successfully "turned his hand" to jam & preserve making from the fruit of his laden trees. We sampled these at breakfast and were most complimentary.
Breakfasts were a social affair with imaginatively plated and varied combinations with a special mention of our last evening at the guesthouse. The Bobotie & pumpkin fritters were the best I have ever eaten.
Thank-you for your generous hospitality and making our long awaited trip to McGregor memorable!

Room Tip: Room 3 with patio to appreciate the beautiful garden & water features.

The Old Village Lodge is a perfect accommodation to experience tranquil McGregor or explore the Robertson Wine Route.
Decorated with charm and an eye for detail every room is unique at this Lodge. We felt welcome from the first minute and enjoyed the stay very much. The breakfast was unbelievable good.
Nicolaas is a great host and the substantial part of this establishment.

My partner and I stayed at the Old Village Lodge for two nights in early September, and we had a great stay. The room had a private verandah and a view over the garden, which is really lovely.

Nicolaas' attention to detail, and attentiveness to our needs was beyond reproach. Every area of the guest house is beautifully decorated, and waking up to bird song, and the sound of the fountain in the garden was an absolute pleasure.

We would recommend the Old Village Lodge without hesitation.

Arriving without a reservation, host Nicolaas went out of his way to accommodate us for a week's stay. The room was beautifully appointed, comfortable and immaculate, as was the rest of the house..Unlike so many of the B and B's we've stayed at over the years, the bedside lights actually fulfilled their function!
Breakfast's were delicious, varied, and plated with finesse. Croissants made by Nicolaas went straight to the top of our best croissant list, enjoyed with his homemade preserves made from homegrown fruit. We loved the garden, imaginatively landscaped with an interesting and effective combination of indigenous and exotic planting.
Overall, a five star experience and great value. (Rupert and Sophie added to the ambience)
