“Convenient for Cambridge”
Reviewed 23 June 2014

We chose to stay here due to it's proximity to Cambridge and the nearness of a park & ride and were not disappointed. We had a small double which was a little tight mainly because one side of the bed is against a wall but it was comfortable, the bathroom was a little tired and could do with a bit of freshening up. The main part of the hotel though is delightful, well appointed with a nice atmosphere and also a nice outside area to sit.
The evening meal was Ok a nice selection but my kebabs as a starter were on the small side and also too dry, the rib eye steak was nice but having asked for medium rare it was more medium, however everything else with it was really nice, mushroom, onion rings and chips so a few tweaks and the food could be excellent.
Breakfast was excellent although we all had the smoked salmon and scrambled egg and plenty of excellent coffee.
The big plus for us though was the excellent service; all staff were friendly, helpful and efficient and whilst some aspects of the hotel maybe deserve a 3 this and the lovely restaurant push it to a 4 star

(This review applies to the restaurant, not the hotel).
In the past we have been really impressed by the White Hart, but we went
there last week for a special occasion, and it was a little disappointing.
The menu was 'weak', so while I had a lovely pie of the day, my wife had to settle for fish and chips which were both soggy and not to her liking.
They redeemed themselves with her chocolate fudge brownie desert though. :-)
As others have already said, the place is immaculately clean, the staff friendly, attentive and efficient and the ambiance is delightful. It was wet and a little chilly, so the roaring fire was most appreciated.
Finally, these guys make an excellent Gin and Tonic!

We stayed for the night, room small but cosy.

The evening meal was good,staff were friendly but seemed in a bit of a rush,maybe they were short staffed that night;

Good size portions and served hot,not to keen on the puddings though so stayed with ice cream.

Good end to the day after visiting Duxford.

We stayed here with a group of friends over the bank holiday weekend to visit the air show at Duxford. On arrival, we found the place closed until 5.30pm, which kind of threw us a bit. From the outside, it looks a very nice place, and indeed when we eventually got in, the downstairs area, i.e., the bar and restaurant, was very nicely presented. Plenty of well laid out tables, a seating area near the bar, and a cosy room with a wood burning stove, all promised to make our stay great. The staff were friendly and accommodating. We were taken to our rooms via an outside fire escape, as there didn't appear to be access from the downstairs of the Inn. I have to say the rooms, if you could call them that, were very disappointing indeed. There was barely room to move. The double bed only just fitted in - pushed against the wall, with a tiny cabinet beside - just enough space to get into the bed. There was a small area where you walk in which housed a console table with tea/coffee making facilities. The biggest downer of all was the "en suite" - no bigger than the width of the shower tray. In order to access it, you had to manoeuvre inside first - there was a tiny basin in front of the door - which you couldn't use unless the door was open. The toilets in the rooms were not plumbed in but were the saniflow kind, which made a horrid noise which everyone can hear - not good when you get up in the night! In order to sit on the toilet, you had to manoeuvre around the basin which was pushed against your shoulder. The sanitary fitting had seen better days, the shower was antiquated although it worked ok. The room was positively claustrophobic - dread to think what its like in the height of summer. The only redeeming factor of this place was the excellent food - especially the breakfasts, and the staff where so very helpful and friendly. I can only assume that's why this place has been highly commended. We stayed 2 nights and I have to say I was glad to leave - the bed was very uncomfortable. A great shame really, considering the positives. I got the impression it was a cheap conversion and that the upstairs rooms had been divided up in a way that was not good enough to be presented as 'rooms'. Despite the good food, and it's position, I would not stay here again. Let down by the accommodation.

Room Tip: Rooms were awful.

Our friends were spending a long weekend in Fulbourn on the bank holiday weekend, so that they could visit the air museum at Duxford.

Although they booked well in advance, on the day of arrival they found that the pub and restaurant would actually be closed for the afternoon and evening once the lunchtime session was over.

The meal was very overpriced, we had fish and chips and our friends club sandwiches. My friend left most of her sandwich as it was not very nice.

The management did not both to inform our friends of the closure at the time of their booking. If we had not noticed the board in the car park entrance they would not have been told.

Shame on

Thank goodness the local 'anonymous box' hotels were full and I found this place! Quiet location, traditional bar and great value food. The full house breakfast negates the need for lunch! There is a local Co Op nearby in the High Street if you have forgotten anything. My room was a bit small for my 5 nights (but that was the fault of my colleague who booked it) but it was clean and well maintained each day with the tea and coffee tray topped up with biscuits too. The central heating worked OK and the shower temperature didn't fluctuate (as some do!) Access to the 7 rooms is via a separate stairway at the rear of the premises so an early starter like me did not have to wait for the pub to unlock. Food was very good, the 2 dishes deal for £12.95 is great value. Some of the wine like so many places is a little overpriced, just pick carefully. Very friendly and helpful staff. Would certainly stay here again.

Room Tip: 6 Is a bit small even though it is a double....

Met up with a long time friend this evening at the above place. As always the place was spotlessly clean and we were very soon sitting down to eat. Only one slight drawback; and that is the main reason we never eat out on or around the weekend is because it was packed..!!
Waited a while for our order to be taken and then waited a while for our starter to arrive, very nice food indeed, then we waited a good while for our main course which was worth the wait.
Food was very good, service slow; but understandably so as the staff were rushed off their feet.
Been on a weekday before, but from memory probably a mid-week day?? We shall revert to that as I would rather just get on with the meal rather than wait around.
Otherwise, I can't fault it, I had a rib eye steak which was as good as any I've eaten and as I like it rare you can't disguise a cheap cut; this was juicy, very tender and worth every penny.
