“Wonderful hotel, stunning gardens”
Reviewed 12 October 2011

Le jardin Tecina is the nicest hotel we have ever stayed in. We paid extra for a superior room and requested an upper level. Our room overlooked the ocean, it was spotlessly clean and well furnished, with a large balcony.
We travelled with Thomson a la carte, which meant that the long journey was made easier by taxis to and fom the ports and ferry times co-ordinated with flight times.
We had breakfast on the outside terrace every day. The restaurant food was always good with plenty of variety. We spent our after dinner evenings in the lounge bar, listening to Ann Tina, who played some wonderful music on the piano, she is a lovely friendly lady who knew all our favourite melodies.
To explore the island, a hire car is essential and well worth the effort.
Only drawback is the many steps and ramps needed to access the reception, pools and restaurants from the seaside rooms - good for general fitness, not so good for knees !

Visited 20 - 27 Sept 2011. On a 7 night holiday it is important to maximise the time available so be aware that our return journey was somewhat different to the outward one ! We suggest you check ferry times to co-ordinate with your flights to avoid lengthy delays.

As for the hotel, it is generally fine and very well located. However the rooms are pretty much in need of a refurb without being a real problem and our shower didn't offer hot water - we survived due to high ambient temperatures. We had requested a 1st floor room but were allocated a ground floor with no view or privacy so asked for a change which was organised without any problems. Our A/C unit was very noisy. Best to request 1st floor for privacy to avoid other guests walking past your patio. If you aren't too mobile there are a few changes in levels to negotiate. Entertainment was repetitive with the 'house' band (duo) being mediocre. Staff mostly very friendly. As ever when dining in same restaurant for seven days/nights (or longer), the food does get repetitive but the quality was reasonable. Check for balcony seating for a good view of the local town and harbour - we managed it approximately 30% of the time but in any case there are various dining areas even associated with the same restaurant which helps to provide a change of ambience and there was always plenty of seating capacity. We booked 'Full board plus' which works well in that you get half a bottel of wine or beer with each meal.

Club Laurel is situated at beach level and accessed via a lift, offering an attractive alternative pool and bar although we were not able to eat there apart from drinks or snacks as part of our package.

Overall, a destination not to be missed, and definitely a hugely different cultural experience from neighbouring Tenerife, although you will appreciate the range of views of Mount Teide, particularly as it rises above the clouds which ma kes it appear even taller. Unless you want to stay in the resort, hiring a car is a must in order to experience the breathtaking scenery and landscape of this magical island.

Room Tip: Choose 1st floor for more privacy and better view

We're here on a 11 night holiday. The room is fantastic. Everything is clean and tidy. Plenty of room, and relaxing all round.

Problems:
- very poor show of vegetarian food; even the lentil stew contained meat.
- All inclusive residents get second class service; probably because we tip less
- Expensive safe: 2 euros per day

Returned from the Jardin Tecina on 28th September after 11 wonderful days of utter loveliness. In fact, so taken by this very special place we became engaged on our balcony overlooking a never ending ocean. We had a superior room, it was spacious and clean with use of tea/coffee making facility and fridge (although you had to order from room service for drinks to be stocked) The setting and gardens of the hotel are stunning, with the additional beach club via lift through the cliff, which was quieter than the main pool area and enables you to wander leisurely into the small town of Santiago a few minutes walk away. We went half board which we felt quite adequate for us with the amount of food on offer, all to a high standard and great variety. All the staff are friendly and efficient, housekeeping of our room was very good. The journey to La Gomera is quite a trek but so worth the effort. We travelled with Prestige Holidays who tailor the connection times so well that on both journeys we had no long waits at airport or ferry port. We were booked on the Fred Olsen catamaran which is much better than the ferry. Finally, we hired a private guide for a day to show us the whole of this beautiful island, including a walk through the vast forests of the north - thoroughly recommended - be prepared for some good exercise and wear decent walking shoes! In all, one of the best holidays we've both had in many years and yes, we will be returning for our honeymoon sometime next year...

Room Tip: Superior rooms with balcony as opposed to the ground floor terraces on the most southerly cliff edge...

Although a large resort we was amazed at how quiet it could be. Pool could be deserted at times in fact I had it to myself for some time one day.

Staff at the Hotel are very helpful especially Marcel on the front desk who sorted out a few minor problems during our stay. Also thanks to Gabi in the restaurant.

We stayed full board and found the food excellent with a good variety to chose from and I must admit to breakfast being my meal of the day. Cannot understand other comments about fresh orange juice being an extra charge as we have come across this before in other hotels.

Rooms are kept clean and we found them comfortable but due to the fact we were in a lower level due to there design they suffer from a lack of ventilation.

Note to Management :- Standard of dress in the restaurant of some of the guests is appalling. Although there is a dress code it does not seem to be enforced in the evening. Whilst we were there some men were in beach wear, vests and even wearing hats. To wear a hat in a restaurant is just bad manners.

This is a short review as most has already been said about this hotel and Island. All I can add is we had a wonderful holiday. We enjoyed our stay at the Jardin Tecina and thought the island on La Gomera very beautiful and we can recommend both.

Room Tip: Do not book a lower level room.

My husband and I have just returned from 2 weeks here. The hotel is lovely and all the staff were so friendly. We travelled with Thomsons A La Carte and couldn't fault Amy the Thomson rep.
Although we didn't ask for a sea view room, we got one, although slightly obsured by a tree, we still had a sea view. Our room was excellent, very clean and spacious.
On the day of arrival it was my husbands birthday, so I contacted the hotel in advance and arrange for a bottle of wine to be sent to the room, and a table reservation, with cake at the laurel restaurant. All I can say is that the PR team at the hotel were fantastic with the organisation.
Food was slightly boring , but when the hotel has to cater for so many people, its understandable, but there was a bonus, bottle of wine with every meal.
All in all a very enjoyable holiday

Room Tip: Book a hotel room in Los Cristianos for the last night. This aviods an early departure from the hot...

My wife & I stayed 23-30 Sept 2011. We travelled with Thomson a la Carte which was very good value: club lounge access on the way out; pre-allocated huge legroom seats; individual taxi transfers; and a full-board package which included free beer/house wine/water at both lunch and dinner.

We enjoyed ourselves hugely at this relaxing quality hotel. Nice room, friendly staff, good buffet food, excellent swimming pools. We shall definitely visit the hotel again.

Before we left the UK we had read comments about expensive drinks in the hotel. This is just not true: draft lager is 3.5€ for 0.4cl which works out around £4 a pint which is London pub prices. Restaurant wine brands included Torres and Marques de Cacares etc at around 14€ (pretty fair for a hotel of this quality) and, astoundingly, all were available at half-price in the hotel's own shop meaning that, using your bedroom's good-sized fridge, you could if you wished drink quality wine on your own balcony/terrace at little more than UK supermarket prices.

Finally, an added bonus was the island's adoption of UK time. So, last week, it was dark until 8am but sunny until 7.30pm. Ideal for holidaymakers.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 168. Some rooms near to the poolside avenues have no views and should be avoided.
