Beer's House Beach Bungalows
Reviewed 18 January 2012

we originally tried to get a room in 'new hut' next door but wound up in this place instead and really glad we did.

really friendly owner/manager who was more than happy to help you with anything. cosy and quaint beach bungalows literally on the beach.

restaurant was reasonably priced and food was good. the beach is the greatest in the world but still very nice.

hotel is a brisk 10min walk from the main bar/resturant strip in lamai.

overall really good 3 days spent here. 600bht a night we paid, which at the time of posting equates to about £12 and you just cannot say fairer than that.

Room Tip: we had room 7 which was set in the second row

After reading some of the reviews of this place, and of the almost identical New Hut next door, we were a little sceptical about what we were getting into. But, this place is awesome. At $20AUD for two people a night we were right on the beach in a hut with an ensuite bathroom and hammock. Towels are provided and the sink in our room leaked...but who cares? Yeh, it's basic - but that's what you come here for!

Lamai beach is beautiful - a lot quieter than Chaweng, but only a taxi away if you want to, although we found ourselves spending the day sitting on the beach or in Beer's cafe watching the hours go by. If you want beachside relaxing - this is the place to be. There's also countless massage beds on the beach for really cheap.

The food in the cafe is pretty good, although New Hut's cafe next door has a bigger selection and a good cocktail list. Walk south along the beach and you'll find more beach bars and restaurants. Beer's also has free Wifi.

Ignore the bad reviews - as long as you're not afraid of rouging it a little bit and don't expect chocolates on the pillows, this is the place to stay. We tipped the guy working here pretty generously in our first round of beers and everything was easy and problem free from there.

Room Tip: Obviously go for the beach front bungalows, unless you don't sleep well with the waves crashing...

We only planned on spending a few days here, but that turned into 3 weeks. Such a chilled location. We hired a lovely little bungalow right on the beach. On suite bathroom, hammock on the veranda, and great food. The young lad that served us was very polite, and regardless of the language barrier, still managed to crack the odd joke.
A ten minute stroll from walking street puts this place in the ideal location. Not too noisy, but close enough if you fancy a few beers, and great food so readily available.
Highly recommend this establishment.

We did not stayed in the bungalows on the beach that seemed to be nice from the outside, cause they were full.We had our days in the rooms at the other side of the big road in front of the seaside.
The rooms were quite clean at the beginning, but no one came into to clean it.
To have our bed linen and towels cleaned, we had to take it over the beach where owners stay smoking, watching tv, and serving bad thai to customers.
Water from shower and sink was yellow and we had no satisfactory explanation for that. Beds were hard but rooms were quite spacious. Wi-fi was ok .One of us had been closed off out of the room at close midnight and had to discover that you have no assistence by owners after 11 p.m. At the end, for that price, you can have much better accomodations with nicer staff in Samui.Don't see how lonely planet could put it recommended...

The rooms were some of the cheapest around. Simple and clean. Mattresses were very firm. The shared toilets are cleaned regularly but still smell quite badly most of the time. The restaurant is very nice and has a perfect view of the ocean. It's a great spot to hang out and read a book in the shade but if you don't order a meal every single time you sit down the owner will get angry at you for taking up his seating, even if the whole rest of the restaurant is empty. (Which it usually is.) We stayed here for a week and loved everything about it except the owner who was extremely grumpy and rude. He came out and yelled at us several times for the most trivial things. (Like buying our water at 7-eleven instead of his for three times the price.) I would absolutely recommend this place if it wasn't for that. As it is, I would recommend staying next door at New Hut where the staff are friendly and smiling.

I myself liked the place. I had some trouble sleeping in the bungalows near the ocean because after tide come there was too noisy, waves were 5metres from the terrace. In the other hand you'll could make more noise and give other residents a chance of sleep!;)
Its true that you dont need a aircon because there really is a quite nice breeze all the time!
The beach was very clean and peaceful. there were no people selling you things.
I only can say for advise that go there and try it out!

A rustic hut, right on the beach... the night surf lulling you to sleep, cooled by an offshore breeze. Isn't that the classic image of a tropical holdiay?
Thats just what you get at the Beers House, and after trying a couple other places, I came right back. The bungalows may be basic, but they are clean, in good condition, and everything works. The ceiling fan is enough to cool the room down, there's hot water in the shower and plenty of it. The bedding is clean, and so are the towels. The staff are quiet and they stay out of your way. The restaurant is clean , the food is undramatic but just fine.
Its all about the location, and swinging in a hammock on your own veranda while staring out at the turquoise sea is as good as it gets-and at these prices, the resorts and spas further up the beach can go whistle. I'll be back- in fact, I may not leave!
