We got this room through the TAT (Tourism authority of Thailand)..the room was very clean with bathroom outdoor (I dont think this is with every bungalow, we stayed in standard). The room had a fridge, tv and hot shower and was cleaned everyday. The safe was at the front with management which was a little bit off since we couldn't access our stuff without asking first. The management was kind, the owner was a big Swiss guy that ran the place. Dont get on his bad side, he quickly kicked two travellers out after there was a mix up with their accomodations...it was not a pretty sight. The location is o.k, it's close to a bar/shopping area down the road...pretty quiet beach, not the best I've seen. There was garbage everywhere. All in all it was clean & basic,...

We arrived paying over the odd's from a TAT office to find that we would be staying in a shabby hut. Not clean, very worn out and the owner was rude and wasn't interested in sorting out what we had booked and paid for instead offering us to stay in the adjoining property which was much less and run down. Don't go unless you are prepared to be disappointed.

Stayed here in late December 2009. The Hotel itself is well kept, basic rooms close to a nice beach further down the Lamai strip. What would have been a glowing review was tarnished by the rubbish attitude of the owner who was more preoccupied with the money he was making than providing a happy experience for his guests. The non-thai staff seemed to prefer sitting around smoking rather than tending to their guests. Whats more is that the price we paid per room was more than double the normal price as we were conned into taking a room at a higher rate (thanks again to the nightmare owner). Not a great place to stay at all.

This place was offered to me may a tout on the way to Koh Samui from Krabi. He offered me and some others a range of hotels, the Lamai Chalets was one of them. The price was 300B per night for a chalet. When we got to the chalets the owner didn’t seem too pleased that we had been given the rooms for 300B even though the place was not full by a long shot. The chalet itself was very clean, had a nice feel to it and was an excellent beach chalet. The resort leads onto an average beach (nothing special) but you can walk down it to better parts of the beach, however, the resort has a good pool instead. The location isn’t great; to get to the main part of Lamai you have to walk for about 15 mins down a busy main road which isn’t good at night. When we booked two more nights the owner gave the impression that he wasn’t pleased to have us at the price we paid, although, again the resort wasn’t busy at all (we counted 6 chalets that weren’t been used). Nice place but owner seems to prefer the place occupied with his mates and their thai wifes/girlfriends. Wouldn’t stay here again which is a shame as the thai staff were great fun.

Recently spent a few days in Koh Samai, the Lamai Chalet was in a great location, the staff friendly but beware of leaving anything of value in your rooms, be them locked or not, on our last night we went out for dinner, the staff were aware and were going to drop off our washed clothes. We were leaving the following morning so suitcases were already packed - no need to acess again until arrival back home in Australia. Much to my disappointment when looking for my camera to download the happy holiday shots I found my Camera, charger and many other items missing. I guess you have to be carefull everywhere, but thought things would be safe in our LOCKED room.

Lamai is definitely the beach to stay at if you are after a peaceful, quiet, relaxing holiday. The chalets are reasonably basic, but extremely good value for money and very clean. Lamai is the quieter beach, the week we stayed (March 08), we had the pool to ourselves & the beach would have had 10 people max. Lots of great restaurants just a very short walk down the beach & it is possible to hire scooters if you want to explore the Island further.
