When we arrived we were first of all taken aback by the bleakness of the reception area. As our room wasn't ready we went to look around outside. I really thought that we were going through a service area but this was the way to the pool. The pool was a rectangle, surrounded by concrete with mattresses surrounding it. No umbrellas, no seats. The small beach area was very crowded with no shade available. On our return to reception a couple arrived. There was no room for them as the hotel was overbooked. Having decided at this juncture that we didn't want to stay here we gave these Russians our room and proceeded to look on the internet for somewhere to stay. I would say here that the receptionist was very helpful letting us use the computer and making a phone call for us. While we were doing this three more people arrived. Again no room, overbooked. Unfortunately one of these people started to shout and swear across the room at the receptionist. They should have been taken into a more private area by a man who I can only presume was the manager to discuss their problem. I used the public toilet which was unclean with paper strewn on the floor. All in all a place to avoid.

I was recommended this hotel by a friend and couldn't believe the standard of room, that we got for €35 per night, peak season. The room was huge with the biggest comfiest bed & pillows with divine linen. The floors were tiled beautifully, the a/c was quiet & super. The bathroom was very modern. We had a lovely balcony overlooking palm trees and out to sea, even though it was not considered a sea view room. They have a lovely quiet pool & it's just 2 mins to the beach & 4 mins to the main street. The staff were super friendly & helpful. Superb value & would highly recommend this hotel for a great beach holiday.

Room Tip: Closer to sea, so you can hear it:-)

We had a room in the main building, and I have to agree with many of the other reviews. The room was fine, air conditioned, large, and the location, poolside with beach access was great.
And a really, really good massage place on the beach.
This place just need a little bit extra to get some more points.
For what you pay, it is fine. A few more staff, and a little bit more service, the ratings would go up.
A word of warnings for single female travelers or families, the Centre of Lamai beach is QuiTe a centre for go go bars, or in plain English old perv dudes looking for / hanging out with young Thai girls on the beach and in the bars. I would suggest staying to the North of Lamai beach or in a quieter resort. I read alot of reviews and NONE of them said this.

Room Tip: Sta in the main building, new rooms

I've been staing at Coconut Beach many times in the past decade, took friends there, recommended it to travelers...

Since the quite loud night club nearby is closed, you really sleep firmly there... and good sleep after a day of activities is a good thing, which brings me to the topic of the rooms: the rooms in the brand new house are amazing, although I always book the cheapest possible bungalow. They're located in the garden and under the trees => roof isn't in the sun all day long.
The new pool is nice, the gym is good, and I've seen so many improvements every time I got there that I fear every time the wooden, garden bungalows will be gone next time. Thank God they're not.

To me, Coconut Beach Resort is the only place in Lamai where to stay on a budget, in simple accomodations as there were so many in Thailand before (and wood is ecological, and breathes better than concrete!). There are some drawbacks but they depend on the season: there may be a roach or two in mating season but when you are in a buddhist country, don't expect the people to act against their belief and kills animals! If you keep you room tidy and don't let food and sodas laying around, they won't visit (take it from a shrieky lady who isn't that fond of insects, either!). Or: buy a spray! When you pay THB 600 for a bungalow, you may be able to spring for that.

Anyway: Coconut Beach is perfectly located, you can take a walk South to Grandfather Rock or North to Tesco and market, entertainment and restaurants nearby yet not loud, and the beach there is perfect. Enjoy!

We have stayed at this hotel looking for a place to rest. They've told us one price and then, they charged other. We didn't have towels and the wi-fi signal wasn't available at our room.
During the night the air conditioned didn't work, so we asked the only staff person in the hotel, the security man, who didn't understand a word of what we were asking for. Finally he understood we wanted a new room and he wanted us to pay a new one, even more expensive. They don't know how to deal that kind of problems, and don't have customer care.

... clean room in the main building, we were there in june 2012, and we were still offered the beach front huts which were appalling. no fit state to be rented out, you'd be safer/cleaner/comfier in a tent on the beach. as everyone else has said here do not expect any hotel staff; our room was set up by what looked like a group of friends, texting etc whilst we were waiting.

we payed a lot for the room but we had little option as we got there late and needed somewhere to stay - in hindsight there are many better places to stay for the price you pay here.
