“Renaissance relaxation Koh Samui”
Reviewed 24 July 2014

Having just returned from 18 night stay, we thought we would review while fresh in our minds. Booked in January 2014, reservation handled professionally well by (miss) Bud at Front Desk. We were met at airport in hotel private bus, and transported to hotel. Cost $28.00. Worth every dime. 30 minute trip.
Check in to villa with private pool was painless.
The room was very well equipped, TV, DVD, Pool Beds, extra towels . Fridge, with mini bar, coffee etc. Excellent A/C.
The staff are absolutely fantastic, from Chef Tor, who takes time out to ensure everyone enjoys their meal (my wife has a nut allergy, and Tor offered great guidance) to Mr. Killian Donoghue (GM), and his staff, Niran, Victoria, Didier, Korn, and the rest. Too many to mention all by name. Sorry.
The sea bed is rather stoney, ( however rock shoes are available free of charge) and as the tide has a dramatic low / high tide difference, the sea is not suitable for swimming at low tide. This is a plus for kids who want to paddle or investigate rock pools.
Free Kayaking is also available.
The communal swimming pool is more than adequate, ands located right on the beach.
Thursday night BBQ ($50.00 without alcohol) is good value, accompanied by a Fire Show. Great entertainment.

Although the F&B offering is exceptionally cosmopolitan, European, Asian etc (please try the free Bloody Mary's at breakfast), and there is no real need to leave hotel, the Renaissance is surrounded by fantastic restaurants. Some very cheap ($ 8.00 for a curry) and some expensive .The staff are more than willing to make suggestions on dining venues, and even make reservations on ones behalf.
Just a 30 minute walk along the beach from hotel, there are multiple bars offering great value on F&B.
All in all, we feel thoroughly relaxed after our vacation, and will look to return.

Killian.
If you read this, please pass on my thanks to your staff. I would not hesitate to offer a reference for any of them.

Room Tip: We did not visit other rooms. The hotel is built on a slope, so perhaps not suited to people with wa...

Our two week stay at the Renaissance resort was absolutely perfect in every sense. From the moment we were picked up at the airport we knew that we were going to have a fabulous time. The resort itself is gorgeous, with beautiful lush gardens, sculptures and fresh flowers everywhere. The main pool on the beach is a haven to spend your day at and the beach is safe for little kids to play at and explore in the rock pools. At low tide you cannot swim, but with a magical pool awaiting you won't miss a thing. The Royal Lamai villa was divine, and very spacious for a family of 4. The food at all the restaurants/room service was exceptional. The cocktail happy hour & complimentary bar snacks are a very good reason for 5 o'clock to tick past. The staff are incredibly happy, friendly, knowledgable and nothing is too much trouble. Killian & Didier run a gorgeous resort & have a fantastic team working for them! I did a private cooking class at the hotel which was a total highlight of my trip - if you're into food, it's 100% worth asking about. We caught local cabs or the local tuk tuks into Chaweng/Lamai daily and make sure you go to Silver Beach (5min taxi or 15 min walk from hotel) for a snorkel, massage and lunch at one of the restaurants on the beach. Great beach for swimming and kids will love it!
We would definitely return for another holiday and recommend it highly to friends.

Room Tip: If you want a two bedroom option - the Royal Lamai Villa is the pick. Private villa right on the bea...

The Renaissance is such a stunning resort. The immediate open air concept that welcomes you as you enter the lobby sets the tone of the tranquil stay you're about to embark upon. The resort itself is set away from the main area of Lamai, but it is just a short taxi drive away (be sure to go into Lamai for night market food and restaurants so you can escape a bit after a day at the resorts pool or private beach!). The buffet at this place is unbelievable and so well done. The staff is very accommodating (especially the restaurant and pool/beachside staff!) and resort smells of Lemongrass and fresh flowers. The rooms are AWESOME, bed is so comfy, and is bright, airy, and so well done. There were three of us traveling and we had such a nice time here. What we did was spend a couple days in Chaweng and then escaped to Renaissance in Lamai for a more relaxing trip. Well worth the money!

This resort is large, but well set out, with a beautiful pool on the beach. Staff are so friendly, all calling "Sawsdee" when you walk past, and always smiling. The breakfast was wonderful, a lot to choose from, their signature Eggs Benedict was absolutely delicious. The pool is beautiful, unfortunately the tide was quite low when we were there, which was not too attractive, but I believe it starts getting higher towards August which would make the outlook beautiful. A little far away from Lamai itself, but there is a courtesy bus every day, to Chaweng as well. The rooms were a good size, comfy beds, but the room service did take a long time. After spending most of the morning at the pool, returning at lunch time, you would hope the rooms would be ready, but this was often not the case. Would definitely return to this hotel, really felt as though you were on holiday

Dear Sharon R,

Thank you for your kind comments in regards to the hopitality of the Renaissance Team as well as the culinary offerings (The Eggs Benedict Samui style are my personal favorite too!).

The tide is indeed on the rise as of the month of August and your comment in regards to the housekeeping service is well taken - while we recommend to let us know the desired make up time we will strive to improve this area.

With best personal regards,

Killian Donoghue.

We stayed at Renaissance for our first wedding anniversary and it turned out to be the perfect place for us. located on the peaceful lamai beach it gave us the desired privacy. the breakfast is good and the food prices also are not very high. The beach right in front of the pool is away from hustle bustle. The rooms and hotel is always smelling nice. Overall a nice resort if you want to relax.

This hotel is perfect. Koh samui is a beautiful place but is quite a culture shock in the beginning. This hotel is a little bit out of the action of lamai but suited us with young kids. The staff are so friendly and made us feel like real guests, rather than people just staying there. The breakfast is the best we have had. I did my research before we left and I am glad we chose here. The only criticism I have is that the spa and the treatments are way overpriced. You can have a greet massage down town for 200 baht, while they charge 1800 baht.

All in all a real 5 star experience, we will be back!!!!

Room Tip: Pick Thea villa with private pool
