“Outstanding and Attentive”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 December 2013

I visited Rocky's with a group of girlfriends and had a wonderful time. Everything is done to a high standard and the attention to detail is thoughtful and wonderful. The accommodation is luxurious, the staff and friendly and attentive and the food was delicious. The gardens and the sound of the waves from the sea add to the overall ambience. The little things made all the difference: the towels on the sunbeds, the iced water and especially the fruit kebabs! A thought of thought has gone into the resort which made my stay memorable. I felt I was in a little piece of paradise.

We have just returned from 13 nights of pure relaxation from this hotel. All the staff go out of their way to make your stay as memorable as possible and a special thank you to Lucas and Tien for "going the extra mile" with help and advice.

It's the extra touches that make this hotel unique. Iced water is handed out free whilst lazing by the pool along with free fruit kebabs. Fresh flowers in the room. The gardens are lit up at night by night candles and fairy lights making the area look like fairyland. The menu for cooked food at breakfast is a good idea as the food is cooked to order. There is, of course, the usual fresh fruit, cereals, toast and pasteries on a self service basis.

A very pretty boutique resort cleverly carved out of a sea front slope, creating a seafront and an elevated section which in essence could be two separate resorts. I had a sea view villa which was very pleasant and was right beside the entrance to the lower level pool and beachfront area. Beach area is small but well maintained. Lower level dining room has some lovely views of the bay. A bit of the normal tourist track but probably the better for that, this is a resort for those that want a quieter more relaxed holiday with some additional quality. I would say the only possible achilles heel of this resort is the food quality, but that is typical of Samui in general. Lucas the Guest Relations Manager deserves special mention, he is a dynamo of energy and makes sure he speaks to everyone on a daily basis. He resolved the one issue I had in a prompt and polite fashion, which is normally the sign of good management. If you want something a bit different on the quieter side of the Island then this would probably suit.

Room Tip: Sea view room 801, or 802, opposite pool entrance. Good unobstructed views.

Rocky's is a beautiful place where everything is done to make us feel welcome. We were there for 6 nights and found it quite difficult to leave the resort as we had all we needed there! The rooms were gorgeous and we received an upgrade, the food in the restaurant was delicious, water and fresh fruit kebabs were brought to us continuously by the pool and we had relaxing massages to the sound of the sea. There was a library with books in all languages and internet/printing facilities with handmade biscuits/fruit to snack on, The staff were all without exception warm and welcoming (with additional skills such as juggling which they demonstrated with welcome cocktails one night) and made us feel part of a family.

I had a wonderful holiday here with a group of girlfriends, we loved having massages by the water's edge, we loved having cocktails by the pool and most of all there is a magic there in the way everyone and everything is taken care of. Thank you to the owners for creating such a special place to holiday.

As the time neared for our first trip overseas without anybody to help us with our eighteen month old daughter, it was not without some trepidation that we left for Rocky's in Lamai. By the end of the trip, our initial fears failed to materialize and we left the hotel with a deep sense of attachment to the place, largely due to the warmth and genuineness that are synonymous with the staff at Rocky's.

To provide a bit of context, my wife and I enjoy holiday destinations that are not in the heart of the city. Some of our previous destinations include Seminyak in Bali and Hua Hin in Thailand. We find there to be a je na sai quois about these less crowded areas and Rocky's certainly appeals to those who seek a serene holiday away from the hustle and bustle of city life. There are shuttle services to Lamai and Chaweng city centers where you can get your fix of MacDonald's, Black Canyon Coffee and grocery shopping at Tesco, etc but one could do perfectly well without venturing outside of, or too far away from, the hotel's compound.

We stayed in the Deluxe Garden Pool View room for 7 nights but only paid for 5 in accordance with a promotion of the hotel. This proved great value for money as the room is spacious, well-maintained and contains facilities that most travelers would be more than content with e.g. TV and DVD player, a balcony to lounge on, a luxurious bed and so on. Of course, they also provided a nice baby cot/play pen for our daughter to sleep in. With our daughter needing to take two naps a day and sleeping by about 8 p.m. Koh Samui time daily, we found the rooms to be a wonderful place to get much-needed rest from our grueling schedules prior to the trip and from the hours of chasing after and swimming with our daughter during the trip.

Many people have already written about the food, the readily available space for basking under the sun in front of beautiful waters and the pools so I won't dwell too much on that here. The main reason why I would recommend Rocky's is not what it has in material terms, great as that might be, but because it has truly wonderful people working for this establishment.

As mentioned earlier, this was our first trip overseas where it was just the three of us and Rocky's truly felt like a home away from home. At every meal, you are greeted by staff who are genuinely enthusiastic and sincere about seeing that you are comfortable. They managed to strike that perfect but often elusive balance between knowing when to give us space as a family and taking the initiative to help us with our daughter so my wife and I could breathe a little easier while having our meals. Not a day passed without somebody carrying our daughter for a short while (with our permission of course) but what warmed our hearts the most was how they adored her and treated her with so much affection. Needless to say, our daughter warmed up to them before too long and she clearly enjoyed herself as much as an eighteen month old could while on the trip!

If you are looking for a holiday destination that will leave you feeling recharged and one that warms your heart, look no further than Rocky's. From the first day, the General Manager, Martin, took time to say hi to us and have a chat even though he was in the middle of overseeing a big wedding. We subsequently had other brief but nice conversations that exemplified how he, like his staff, are never too busy to make their guests feel at home. The Guest Services Manager, Lucas, took time to connect with guests each day and he never failed to ask us about our daily plans and see to it if there was anything he could help with, whether it was helping us book our seats on the shuttle bus or simply making recommendations on things we could do in Lamai or Chaweng. We learnt before we left that he has only been at Rocky's for six months but one would never have guessed because he makes you feel so at home and he does his job so splendidly.

Special mention has to go to the terrific lady who helms the Kids' Club, Oh (that's her nickname), who evidently adores children and makes every effort to make the children comfortable. While we were there, we witnessed the incredible attention she paid to each child who was in the Kids' Club and she even has different activities lined up for each day such as balloon art and face painting. We are highly reluctant to leave our daughter with strangers but soon enough, Oh's genuine affection toward our daughter won us over and we left her to play with Oh in the Kids' Club a few times. Each time, our daughter gladly waved goodbye to us--it is hard to compete against balloon teddy bears, stuffed teddy bears, a collection of toys and a wonderfully warm lady who treats her like a princess!

We were also spoilt rotten by the wait staff at the dining places. People such as Am and Cherry never failed to greet us with a smile and saw that we got everything we needed at each meal time and more. Our daughter, young as she is, looked forward to seeing them each time and her face would light up each time she saw them which is a true testament to how unmistakably warm and genuine they are. We also greatly appreciated how Noo would indulge my daughter's search for the moon while we had dinner at The Bistro, while somehow managing to provide excellent service throughout the meal. The gentlemen were equally adept at making the three of us feel at home and we will remember for a long time to come the graciousness and helpfulness of those such as Jodk, Chart (I hope I got his name right) and Tien.

At the end of our stay at Rocky's, it really is no exaggeration to say we felt like we were leaving behind an extended family of sorts. We hope to return again in the near future and hopefully, many of those whom we met will still be working there because it is always nice to feel like you have a home away from home.
