We visited Lamai at the beginning of August and after a number of days sampling the local cuisine, we decided to have 'a night off'. A friend had recommended Trattoria and as lifelong Italian food fans we decided to give it a try. The restaurant is located down a side street off the main Lamai road, the decor is basic but very clean and there is an impressive mural on the wall inside. The owners were extremely welcoming and friendly and were keen to make recommendations. I had Penne with brocolli & bacon and my friend the Gnocci. Both of us were blown away by our dishes and I honestly think it is one of the best italian meals I have ever eaten (have also been to Italy). The ingredients are authentic (so if you care about carbon footprint probably a no no) but for true Italian flavour nothing compares. We went back a second night during our trip (try the italian sausage & pumpkin pasta) and were equally impressed. A real gem of a place, if you want full on glamour then you will be dissappointed, the clue is in the title...this is a real deal Trattoria in the heart of Lamai.
