This is a really great little place, perfect for relaxing and enjoying beautiful Lamai beach, but within easy walking distance of the town centre.
Upon arrival we were welcomed by the manager/owner, Maria, who is extremely friendly and helpful, even offering a variety of towels for us to choose from, depending on what thickness we wanted! The rooms aren't luxurious, but they are well equipped and spotlessly clean, and the large double bed felt particularly roomy. There is a fridge in the room and fresh water appeared each day in a basket outside the door as we were having a lie-in. I was particularly impressed by the shower, as the water was really hot and plentiful. The air conditioning was very effective (and much needed), as it quite a shock to go outside and find just how hot it was.
Breakfast was included in the room rate, and Maria informed us we could have it whenever we wanted, which generally meant lunchtime! I thought this was a really thoughtful touch. Breakfast was eggs and toast, juice, fruit, tea/coffee, and we were asked if we wanted more toast, drinks etc. which I also appreciated.
The little plunge pool is beautifully done, with a sheep set out in tiles at the bottom! It is small, but good for cooling off, and pleasant to look out on from the table and chairs in front of the room. Lamai beach is so close that you'd want to spend the vast majority of your time there anyway. The beach is accessed by a walkway constructed by the hotel itself, and is literally 2 mins walk away. There are a couple of restaurants and a massage place close by on the beach. We walked in and out of Lamai centre each evening along the road, which was fine. I guess this might not be suitable with children, but there are other restaurants and shops etc closer by the hotel.
Finally to the sheep! They are certainly a memorable touch, but there are only 6 of them (I think) so it's not as though you are really on a sheep farm with sheep wandering about all over the place. They are definitely the luckiest and best looked after sheep I have ever seen, and Maria is evidently passionate about them. It was fun to feed them and I'm sure kids would love it.
All in all, I was very impressed by this place, and looking up into the rainforest, yet moments from the sea, I felt a million miles away from the hectic bars of Lamai centre. We had a really relaxing stay and I had the best night's sleep of my trip. Memories has only been open since Christmas and I think it really deserves to do well. Maria and her staff are lovely. I would definitely stay here again if I was to return to Lamai and would highly recommend it.
