The hotel is modern, clean, luxurious, and beautiful. Our best guess is that the smaller size was what brought the rates down - we can't find anything else lacking that would account for the great price! Has a restaurant overlooking the beach, a pool, loungers, great bedrooms, large bathrooms, lovely landscaping. Staff were helpful but not overly so. No secure bag storage - just in the lobby with the front desk staff. Western breakfast buffet included with one or two thai dishes. Near the night life strip but at the end of the road so very quiet and serene.

We stayed 8 nights at Lamia Wanta and had a very good time. The hotel is surely not luxurious nor does it have the Thai ‘feel’, yet it is good value for money (that Thai atmosphere is in general rather absent from Samui, unfortunately). Its best point is the excellent location – right on one of the best parts of the beach: right next to the hotel there are cafes as well as restaurants right on the beach, something that allows for very romantic dinners and cocktails, and only a few minutes walk is the center, with more bars (go-go bars and ‘normal’ ones) and restaurants. It’s a very safe area to walk, even after midnight and even for a woman, despite the few girlie bars at the beginning of the street.
We had booked through Agoda, and check in was easy and quick. Reception staff friendly, but some are not very fluent in English. Nonetheless, they all try to help you and are very accommodating. The booking of a taxi on the day of our departure was done efficiently.
When you arrive, you do get a slight shock, as the entrance and lobby are, to say the least, very uninspiring. The reception could definitely do with a refurbishment. There is nothing of Thai atmosphere to be detected here. This was, however, only the first impression; things improve once you exit the lobby and step into the garden.
We stayed in a room and not a bungalow, upper floor (stairs, no elevator – rooms are accessed from an outside balcony), and it was very comfortable. All following comments apply to rooms, not bungalows.
Positive aspects:
Rooms (and bathrooms) are spacious, with lots of storage space. Basic toiletries provided (no slippers), aircon, safe, DVD player (with movies to be had at the reception), mini fridge with two complimentary water bottles daily. No coffee/tea making facilities. No mirror for make-up in room. Lighting is a bit bad in both bathroom and room. Key, latch and spyhole.
Balcony spacious as well, with two chairs (also a hanger to spread your wet bathing attire). Nice to sit outside, especially at night. You see little of your neighbors in the upper floors as the garden is quite lush. We were lucky and did not get any of the noise coming from the bars on the side street. One night, after it had rained, it was lovely just to sit outside and listen to all the strange animal sounds coming from the garden.
Negative aspects: Rooms are basic and appear bland, without any wall decorations and with uninspiring furniture. No telephone in room – huge bother. The last days,we were given sheets stained with blood. And although I placed these stains in plain sight, the sheets were not exchanged . Sheets are not changed daily, even if you request it. Found one cockroach in room, dazed however – room must have been sprayed. Overall, however, housekeeping does a good job, the rooms are certainly very clean and a cockroach is to be expected considering the surrounding garden.

Breakfast quite good and plentiful, but –
a) you always need to order coffee/tea refill, which is a bother . It would be more practical if you could just get it yourself. Once, the waitress forgot to bring me my second order of coffee. However, all staff is very polite and friendly.
b) Egg station was a bit annoying; slow preparation, the concept of 'well done' was unknown, kitchen doesn’t see to refilling the ingredients once they run out; sometimes, the egg cook got the orders wrong and gave you someone else’s omelet.
c) Little for vegetarians, no information what each dish contained
d) Little variety, juices not very tasty, no cheese

Pool small, not inspiring at all, but I guess it does the job. There's a lovely sea after all just a few steps away Sunbeds around the pool (too close for comfort though), some on the beach, but again very close to each other and far away from the sea. However, hotel grounds are nice, with lots of shrubs and trees.

Overall – yes, I’d stay at Lamai Wanta again and recommend it to friends as long as prices remain the same. After all, you spend little time in the room or the hotel, and as a basis for exploring and relaxing, the Lamai Wanta is excellent for its price.

We had a great stay at the Lamai Wanta in august 2010. The location is good, central in Lamai Beach. The pool area is a bil small, but it was not to crowded, and the location was good for sunbathing. The beach and sea in front of the hotel is very nice and clean, but we were distubed by beachwendors all day, so we preferd to stay in the pool area. We also walked along the beach towards grandmother ond grandfather rocks, and the sea is even better out there, with som nice little rocks to jump from and sit on. We had a picknic lunch out there several times.

The rooms is very simple. More like a motel standard, but the aircondition is effective, and the beds was very good! One night it was a heavy rain, and there was this strange sounds from the backyard during the night. It must have been som kind of animal, and it was a bit distubing (but exotic:-).

The staff was very nice and helpfull. They arranged a safari trip (wich was really bad, but we can't blame the hotel receptionist for that), and did som phonecalls to other operators on our behalf. Very serviceminded.

The only bad thing about our stay happend in the restaurant. My partner ate the Club Sandwich for lunch, and two hours later he was terribly ill, foodpoisoning. He was sick for 48 eight hours, just leaving the bet to in bed to run for the bathroom. We actually had to stay at the hotel for two extra nights because it was not possible for him to leave the room.... This happend at day five, and we hade breakfast every day wich was good, but I can not recomend the lunch dish after this experience. Even thou, we are satisfied with our stay.

Our stay overall was very nice and I would recommend this place to others but some minor improvements can be made. The pool and the surroundings of the pool are very very nice because it is right next to the beach and the pool itself is very refreshing and serves it´s purpose. The restaurant serves great lunch at a good price and the waiters serve you all day with a friendly smile on their face. (They bring all the drinks and lunch right next to your beach or poolbed) The restaurant is also a great recommender for dinner because the dishes are very very tasty and well decorated, it is one of the better meals we had in Thailand and it is also recommended by Lonely Planet. The room is nice aswell but looks a bit outdated, it didn´t bother me but it comes off as a bit bland. The bathroom is very nice though and so are the beds and wi-fi service. The reception and other staff were very helpful but we noticed that their English is not as good as the other hotels we stayed at so sometime it took a bit more trouble to explain ourselves. (Just a minor technicality though)

Overall we would recommend this hotel because it´s good value for money, has a great pool, a great restaurant and the location is right off Lamai Beach road so you are never far away from your hotel!

In terms of value for money, this place is probably one of the better places you could stay in Lamai. The beachfront location is perfect for couples or families. They have sunbeds facing out into the water which is very beautiful both during the day and also at night when they let off lanterns and fireworks.

The hotel itself is in a good location on the beach, but also very close to the centre of Lamai where the night market takes place.

The hotel rooms are quite basic, but they are clean and the beds are quite comfortable. We asked to be placed in a quiet area of the resort and our request was accommodated- we didn't hear any noise from the nearby bars at all. The rooms have a TV and DVD player and we hired DVDs for free from the front desk a couple of times. The hotel grounds are also very nice with lots of tropical plants. My only criticism is that the rooms are quiet dark, but that didn't really bother us. It could be good for people wanting to sleep in!

The breakfasts are very good quality and the food is kept fresh and cold by the use of ice buckets. We also ate dinner there one night and the food was reasonably priced and tasty, although the restaurant was a bit quiet.

The service at Lamai Wanta was good, particularly at the restaurant. When we asked the front desk about a reputable place for scooter hire they suggested 'Green Samui' which is on the same road as Lamai Wanta, just before the corner. We were VERY happy with this company to rent scooters. The lady there was very helpful and the bikes were good quality. They accepted a photocopy of our passports and we left our International drivers license with them. They were very helpful.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Lamai Wanta to someone wanting good value for money, basic rooms and a nice beachfront location.

Lamai Wanta was definately one of our top 3 resorts during our month long stay in Thailand. The staff were helpful, the rooms in good condition and very clean, and the pool and restaurant in a great position right on the beach.
The food is great and the service quick.
I would definately recommend this resort to anyone looking to stay on Lamai Beach on Koh Samui, it's inexpensive given it's facilities and makes for a great stay.
