“Great Place to Stay for the Weekend”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 June 2013

We stayed here last weekend for our wedding anniversary.
The hotel is in a great location with fantastic views. We were in room 412 which was a fantastic corner room overlooking the Fjord on one side and the spa on the other. The room was well laid out, but a minor point - the air conditioning/heating didn't work and the room could get a little stuffy and hot at night. We fixed this by sleeping with the balcony doors open.
The buffet breakfast was amazing - so much choice and variety of foods to suit all. The dinner is a set menu with a vegetarian option only, but it was incredibly high quality. Be aware that the hotel bar doesn't open on Sunday nights. I'm not sure if this is a Norway wide thing, or just the hotel.
The spa - what a treat. We mostly had the spa area to ourselves and the facilities are amazing. The hydrotherapy pool and the warm outdoor infinity pool were our favourites. The sauna/steam room with icy plunge pool is also great, and there is the option of going out and swimming in the Fjord - which we did. Great experience.
The hotel seemed very quiet except for Saturday night, which suited us. They are doing some renovation work in the entrance lobby, but this didn't affect us.
Great stay - we'd come again and would recommend it.

Room Tip: Room 412 is a corner suite overlooking the fjord.

The views across fusafjorden and beyond we're truely fantastic and we could have sat in our room looking at them for hours (and did !). The Solstrand is a lovely hotel, service was good and the rooms / hotel well maintained. Our room overlooked the gardens and out onto the fjords, was a reasonably size with a comfy bed and TV. We booked for one night as we were touring the fjords for a week but could have happily stayed longer.

We booked on a half board basis and dinner was a set 3 course menu (fish soup, veal, chocolate ice cream and raspberries) and was very good. Equally, there was plenty if choice for breakfast including hot and cold foods from the buffet as well as lots of fish (well you are in Norway !).

The hotel is expensive (£350 / night for both of us incl. dinner) but then again prices are expensive in Norway and the for the view it's worth every penny. Please bear in mind that the hotel is sizeable and does seem to attract business conferences (we had tried to book for a second night but they were fully booked due a conference - they told us that they are normally very quiet on Sundays and during the month of July).

The hotel has more of a traditional feel to it but we would be happy to recommend it and stay here again ourselves.

I really really liked this hotel. I would totally recommend it to anyone going to Norway. The views and resort were spectacular! So peaceful and quiet and amazing outdoor spaces to enjoy the fjord. Here's a helpful list of the pros and cons of this beautiful place:

Cons:
No safe located in room
No complimentary bottles of water
No conditioner or shower gel - just shampoo and bar soap
Bathroom could be newer
Should have more towels in room
I had jelly on my knife in my napkin at lunch which was pretty gross (though its important to note everything else with regards to dishes and cutlery was very clean)
Staff does not speak English as well as other Scandinavian hotels we've been in
Lots of children were running around making noise but that stopped around 9pm

Pros:
Stunning views: we were in room 312 and its balcony and fjord views were spectacular. I never wanted to leave.
The spa massage was wonderful
The indoor/outdoor pool was very beautiful and such a cool concept and so warm!
The public areas were stunning and very accessible yet still cozy and private
The food was decent for a remote resort
Every guest is happy to be here so it makes for a really nice atmosphere
Pretty outdoor benches to see the beautiful fjord
Bed is comfy even though it doesn't look like it
Great for a family trip
The wait staff is pleasant
Fast free wifi

I would definitely return for a relaxing trip- the views are beautiful and the resort is well kept up and well equipped for the modern guest.

Room Tip: Spring for a deluxe fjord view. Rooms 312, 212, 311, and 211 were spectacular!!

We were served excellent food, the surroundings are beautiful, and the hotel is lovely.
There is not much negative to say, except that the walls are paper thin, but that´s common in hotels that old i guess.

My room was quite big, and had a view over the gardens.

I have been to Solstrand many times on both business and pleasure, and it never cease to amaze! It has the most amazing atmosphere with a beautiful view over the fjord, extremely helpful employees, first class food, newly renovated rooms and a big pool area even with an outside pool with hot water overlooking the fjord.

The business facilities are first class as well, with a good wlan with internet most anywhere on the hotel, excellent food and beverages provided during the day and a helpful staff discreetly helping when needed.

The lunches are something else with a big buffet with everything one could wish for - both cold and warm dishes.

I think this hotel has to be one of the best available in Norway and would definately recommend it to anyone!

Room Tip: Get a corner room overlooking the fjord!

I enjoyed my rather short stay at Solstrand, and I should have stayed longer. The view of the hotel gardens and fjord from the sitting group in my room was amazing. It's a very nice hotel in general, but the classic interiors shows history and class.

My room was a bit on the small side, but more than adequate. I slept well and had enough space for my things. The bathroom was also rather small but very well done. The breakfast was delicious and so varied, but the dinners were excellent!

Although this hotel might be a little outdated style wise (one get a 90ies feel), it is very well kept, the rooms are large, clean and many with a stunning view. The spa is fantastic; the heated outdoor pool in the snow is just fantastic. The restaurant is also very, very good. Probably a bit on the expensive side, even for Norway, but the quality and the spa makes it worth it.
