“Fantastic hotel and we'll be back”
Reviewed 8 July 2011

Just returned from an 11 day holiday to this hotel and must say it was one of the best holidays we have ever had. We were two couples and had a very relaxing time. Lovely rooms next to each other facing the sea. Towels and sheets changed every day, everything was immaculately clean. Gardens were glorious and the beach was raked and cleaned of seaweed every day. The food was very good, didn't need t have the same thing every day always a good choice. Lovely 10/15 min walk along the seafront to the local town of Roda which the usual souvenir shops and bars, but very nice. All the staff were lovely and nothing ws too much trouble.
Thanks again Mitsis, this is the second hotel we have been to (Rinella Beach in Crete last year) and will do out utmost to go with you again next year (not sure where though, but could be back to Corfu). Wish I was still there.

Room Tip: We had rooms in the 500's which face the sea

My husband and I spent a week and Mitsis Roda Beach, the hotel was fabulous, especially the speciality beach front restaurants which were included in your all inclusive package. Our only complaint was that the staff serving drinks at the bar in the evenings were very rude ever single night and the all inclusive drinks were terrible, you could drink them all night long and not even felt like you'd had an alcaholic drink at all!! We disliked the evening drink experience so much that we used to walk along the beach at night and go into the local town for a drink, which was a truly lovely as you got more of a feel of being on a greek island, meeting friendly people and having a decent drink.

When we arrived we was kindly asked to go for dinner in the main restraunt as check in time was 2.30 and we arrived a litte early. when we finally checked in and was shown our room we was very happy! the room was very clean and specious and overlooked a semi private swimming pool all 3 familes were placed next door but one to eachother which was great. one member of staff who worked in the restraunt did not like us very much and would make eating very annoying if we were seated in her area. at one point she threw a strop as my 1 year old made a little mess at the side of her plate. the food is pretty much the same everyday with a few changes here and there, some times the drinks would be warm and flat. The animation team were quite fun at the night times but during the day would be a little annoying pestering you to join in games and would make you feel guilty if you didnt want to join in. The lifeguard on the beach was fantastic he would walk around our pool and announce the watersports he was very funny and would put me in a good mood if another member of staff annoyed me. the hotel grounds are stunning but you probably wont make many friends there as everyone is german or french and its very hard to communicate, bingo takes about an hour for one full house as it is spoken in 5 langauges! overall we enjoyed our stay and the hotel really is stunning but we would not go back there again or to roda as it is just to quiet with not much to do. The birthday was a succsess but we went out to Maggies for food on the friday night and to the coral hotel for a bbq on the saturday. the hotel delivered the cake one day late. taxi is 5euro into roda or a 5-10 minute walk up the beach. The daytime food is just hotdogs pizza and turkey or ham balms nothing special.

Room Tip: Ask for secret swimming pool

Stayed 18th June for a week. Before I go on, if you have a family and want a fun family holiday in the sun, this would be ideal, I am sure. Unfortunately the hotel is not a five star, not close. There are areas of the hotel that may be five star and indeed have their own pool, but these are extremely limited and seem to house mainly French and German guests, All the rooms are marketed as superior, seriously, they are not. The reception staff will tell you all the rooms are superior, however the standard of superior is different in each block. Our first room was in the 300's with no balcony looking out into the wall that supports the rear of the hotel. We complained and eventually ended up in 700's which was an improvement but still disappointing compared to what we had expected. However the rooms were clean and fresh but more 3 star than 5 star and not superior in our opinion. We found the reception staff were not very helpful or interested. They were functional but struggled to deliver any real customer support. We had a few issues, as an example the mini bar was empty, simple to fix, it took three days! The resort is a village. The main pool is nice but the smaller pools linked to some apartments are lovely, but they are used by the residents living there. The food was very good, but the booking system for the three external restaurants was rubbish. If you get up at 7am you can book for the next day oh and whilst you are doing that grab a sunbed because if you wait till after 7am they will be all towelled up!! The main restaurant is very, very busy and somtimes you feel you have to get out as soon as you have eaten, before you can order another glass of wine the plates are gone and the table is being reset for the next diners. I dont want to be negative, seriously, the families we observed appeared to be having a good time. But it is not a hotel for couples or those looking for a relaxing break, its more like a sunny mid market butlins camp built in a village theme with lots of kids chasing each other round the pool. I hope this helps anyone considering going to Roda Beach, families - Yes, couples - No. Oh the journey from the airport is approx 2.5hrs and is very hilly. We were disappointed because we paid for a 5 star relaxing break in the sun, we feel we got a 3 star overcrowded village with good food, we wont be going back but I am sure others will. Dont forget to bring the mozzie spray, you will be bitten. The all inclusive was fair value in our opinion, no complaints. The beach was to small for the amount of guests trying to use it but it was clean. Ants are a problem on the ground floor. No gymnasium. Weather was amazing 30 plus everyday. All the best D&N

Room Tip: ask for a room with a private pool

When we landed we were told that the hotel was the nicest on the island so we were very excited. I asked how long the transfer was from the airport to the hotel and was told "a maximum of an hour" we finally reached the hotel 2 hours and 25 minutes later after stopping at nearly every possible hotel on the way. Our rep promised us that the transfer on the way back is far better, however we arrived at the airport 2 hours and 10 minutes after we left the hotel.

our room was far smaller than we had hoped. we did not have a mini bar when the rooms either side of us did. When we asked about the mini bar, we were told that we would have had it but because there was only 2 of us in a family room, we were not entitled to the mini bar. we complained to the reception about our TV and telephone not working and they sent someone out to fix both which happened pretty quickly. We also had to complain about the hundreds of ants that had made home behind our curtains and bedside table (this was also sorted out pretty quickly)

Our duvet cover was taken by the maids on our first day and when we asked if we could have it back we were told "sorry that is just to make the room look nice" (I was actually pretty shocked that we had paid a lot of money for a so called 5* hotel and we were not even given a cover for our bed)

We walked and booked a couple of trips in Roda to aqua land and to corfu town by boat because they were half the price than our tour rep was charging and both trips were very good.

The food was the same for breakfast, lunch and dinner 14 days that we were there which got very boring towards the end of the holiday. The main restaurant was very busy and a couple of nights by the time we had queued for food and got back to our table it was virtually cold. The staff didn't pay much attention to you especially if you needed another drink which was a shame. The restaurants on the beach were far nicer (thats if you got up early enough to book it for the following day)

We had a pool outside our back door which was very quiet so there was no fight for sunbeds and hardly any noise (apart from the gardener who was drilling a hole through concreate for about 2 hours right next to our pool on our third day)

The animation team were great, they were good with children and they had activites going throughout th day. The shows they put on at night were entertaining however these did not start until 10pm.

Overall, I was not as happy with this hotel as I thought I would have been. We were really looking forward to ultimate relaxation in a 5* hotel and it was a shame it wasn't that at all. They certainly take more pride in what things look like than if their guests are happy.
I would visit Corfu again tomorrow, but i would think twice about returning to this hotel.

This really is one of the best hotels we have stayed in in Europe, having a superb range of facilities and the most attractive design (like a village).

The rooms are excellent, the food is very good and the all inclusive deal is very competitive (we paid £630 each for a week via Olympic Holidays).

The hotel is definitely 5* standard for Europe, but the pettyness of the management and poor service in the main restaurant means it only gets a 4* rating in my book.

The mattresses are about as soft as the tiled floors, which everyone we spoke to was complaining about. Because we booked a "family room" (which was the only choice through Olympic) the minibar which we had in our room complete with a full set of drinks was not refilled. The bed covers were removed from the room after the first night "because they were only to welcome us"????.

The waiters in the main restaurant were more interested in clearing empty tables and setting them for the next session rather than attending to the needs of the diners.

The Spa offers poor value for money, and my wife said she felt as if it was just a money making exercise, with no attempt to make the customer feel special.

Overall ratings

Hotel and facilities 5*
Food 4*+ in main restaurant and 5* in beach restaurants
Service 3* in main restaurant and 5* in beach restaurants
Management attitude 3* (petty)
Spa 3*

It is still probably the best hotel on the island, but having been spoilt in the far east we wouldn't go back.

Room Tip: The pool rooms are genuinely very good
