“Swedish gem in winter setting”
Reviewed 15 May 2014

We stayed here early March, with a group, looking for nice ice to skate on. Unfortunately, the winter of 2013/2014, like in the rest of Europe, was not very promising. Therefore, our 2 night stay in family owned Villa Langbers was a bliss. The hotel facilities are beautiful, very old style Swedish. The food is good. The breakfast best. The staff is friendly and you'll be greeted as old friends, returning after a long time gone. The pool and sauna are great, but the outside Jacuzzi is a perfect place to celebrate! It was, in other words, a very Swedish welcome, making us all feel at home.

My wife, baby and I stayed in July for 4 nights. It was an extremely relaxing and pleasant time. We asked for a room with a lake view and were not disappointed. The view was wonderful, particularly watching the sunset and the changing colours of the lake.

The room was very quiet and the bed was comfortable. In some cases the small details were a bit lacking, like loose door handles or old furnishings. The restaurant at the hotel serves delicious dinners and has a very good breakfast selection.

The staff are friendly and helpful. When we asked if there was a DVD player that we could use to watch a movie, they directed us to the hotel lounge, which had quite a good TV and sound system.

This is also a very good location to base yourself if you are exploring the Dalarna area, which is what we did.

The hotel is very well situated up a quiet road from the main village of Tallberg, which is by quite a margin the nicest village we found in the area. The hotel is higher up the hillside meaning you get an exceptional vantage point from the southern side of Lake Siljan, looking north-west. The hotel has very well appointed lounge areas for guests with excellent Wifi coverage across both the public rooms within the main building and the guest room annexes (in our room we clocked speeds over 35mbps). There are several public rooms which have tasteful decor and are comfortable. The decked terrace is a must for a drink on a warm summer early evening.

Our room was very comfortable and spacious with a modern and fully functioning bathroom with adjacent private sauna, which was a pleasant surprise. We were unsure as to whether this was a suite (upgrade) as we had originally booked a 3 nights for the price of 2 deal for B&B in a 'Standard Plus' room. Twin beds pushed together appears to be the norm here, we think. It is certainly not a hostel as a previous poster alluded to but towels are 'eco-sparse', as I now call it, and no bathrobes / slippers were in our room (nor did we need them though). High-luxury, major city hotel style this is not but neither should it cater to that here as it would be totally out of character both with the surroundings and, more importantly, their average guest.

The restaurant served a decent enough breakfast for our needs but it was typical for the country - muesli fans ought to be delighted but English-style cooked breakfast aficionados need not apply! Efforts at a cooked breakfast were a little 'alternative' to say the least but a reasonable attempt is made at fulfilling all palates. Fresh OJ is available, for example, by using the electric juicer provided. As is usual in this part of the world, warm rolls with cheese and ham is in abundance...as was the choice of teas (fruit varietals and black alike). We didn't taste the coffee.

Dinner menu was limited to a summer-list of selections. These were on the whole very flavoursome and well presented. The starters were tasty and fresh with some culinary thought behind them. Main courses were decent and bistro in style meaning they were lighter main courses due to the time of year. Expect a couple of the 5-6 options to be fish and then chicken, pork, veggie etc. - their chips were good which is not what could be said of the wine list which was poor, at best - both in quality and, of course in this country, price (extortionate by UK standards). We passed on wine the first night opting instead for 'eau de Lake Siljan', but on night two opted for a very disappointing house Viognier (by the glass) which cost around SKr. 69 (£6.30 - ouch!). It was the worst part of our stay and was shockingly poor! Note to Management - work on your wine list ASAP please as it is letting your restaurant down. It is thoughtless, lacks depth and does not need two Rieslings on such a short list (it doesn't even include a single Sauvignon Blanc, if my memory serves me right, which is a mistake with so much fish about). The bar does serve a nice Berliner Kindl lager on tap which did make up some of the ground lost by the ineffective wine list. The staff were very attentive and spoke excellent English which meant that the Swedish-only menu could be translated at the table. The food was also a lot cheaper than neighbouring, more renown, establishments.

Overall, our stay was a very positive one and I would easily return to this delightful, picturesque village and this well located and appointed hotel. But Tallberg really is the village you ought to stay in if you visit this area of Lake Siljan (Mora, Leksand and Rattvik, in particular, are very poor substitutes by comparison). Enjoy!

Really one of the finest places I ever stayed in for the atmosphere, the quietness, the clean air, wholesome food and relaxed friendliness of the staff. I would go back tomorrow. This is not an expensive place, nor are the wines and food expensive. The rooms are very basic and comfortable in a simple way but perfectly adequate. Don't expect luxury, thick towels, dressing gowns, butler service. Think upper class hostel or someone's farmhouse. Really a wonderful view over the lake, great summer sunsets, good walks, great to re-charge.

Our stay did not start the best way: our booking had been misrecorded, so no room left for us.
However, the staff did their their utmost and could find us a very satisfying alternative accomodation, and lavishly compensanted for the trouble. We do recommend. The location is great, with a view on the lake. GIve a try to the sauna.

My sister and I travelled to Sweden to meet newly-found family members. They had arranged for all of us to stay at the Hotell Langbers for the weekend of September 9-11, 2011. It was truly a most lovely place with an excellent dining room. Included meals were breakfast and dinner; breakfast was a copious buffet. Dinner was served with a first course, followed by 2 or 3 entree choices. The plating was most attractive, and the food was very, very good. I do not hesitate to recommend the Langers to other travelers. The entire property has been beautifully renovated recently. The quiet whites and grays, in both the main building and the bedrooms, are restful and comfortable. This is a clean, luxurious and calm resort atmosphere where one can spend time talking with family members,or tour Dalarna.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the lake are much preferable.

We had this great offer stay 3n only pay for 2 so it was vey affordable. Hotel Langber is a real gem. The Garden and the hotel property is so beautiful and well kept. The view is unbeliveble. We had the most beautiful sunsets ever. Rooms were nice but we did miss a small refrigerator and the bathroom needs a few more amenities. We miss it already.
