“Very unique place with decent rooms, but amazing dining!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 August 2014

I had the unique opportunity to stay at Zamek Kliczkow for nearly six weeks. I really enjoyed this somewhat remote area of Poland with beautiful countryside, dotted with small towns like Boleslawiec - famous for its world-renowned pottery! I'll share some of my favorite (and not so favorite) aspects of my stay.

The Property:

My room was okay. It was somewhat small, a little dark, and a bit outdated. But then again, I wouldn't want the castle to lose its character so I did appreciate the feel it created. I could also look out the window over the moat, which was really neat! The room did come equipped with wired internet, cable TV, and a decent bathroom. Overall, the room served its purpose and I slept well each night for 6 weeks.

Outisde of the room, everything else was fantastic. From the vine-covered beer garden to the grassy moat, the grounds are very well kept. The food was unbelievable. In fact, the dining experiences deserve a paragraph of their own.

Dining:

The breakfast buffet holds true to the Polish tradition - many hearty choices to pick from including sausage, cold-cuts, eggs, breads, juice, and an abundance of side dishes. Dinner was even better! I still can't forget the salmon over a bed of fresh sauteed spinach and side of rice, perfectly seasoned with a dash of lemon. I also can't say enough about their beef carpaccio with capers. And when it comes to desert, they have THE BEST apple strudel with ice cream you will ever taste, maybe anywhere in the world. I could go on about the soups, wine, etc., but let me move on to the service. The dining service was just as good as the food they served. The wait staff was very professional, courteous, and fun. I have nothing but great things to say about the food, the restaurant decor, and the wait staff here.

The beer garden and courtyard on the inside of the hotel were beautiful. The courtyard has a few benches that make for a great place to sit and enjoy a glass of wine or coffee while talking through the next day's plans.

Activities:

1.5 hrs drive: Karkonoski National Park. The National Park was unbelievable! We hiked up to the border of the Czech Republic which high up in the mountains. The hike featured stunning views of the mountains, lakes that glistened in the sun, clear-water streams, and beautiful flowers.

15 minute drive: Boleslawiec - the famous pottery town. I sent pottery back to the U.S. so I didn't have to travel with it. Everything showed up in perfect condition!

20 minute drive: Zagan, where the real-life Great Escape took place. If you don't know the story behind The Great Escape in WWII, you should definitely look into this. If you're a military or history buff, this is one of many amazing sites Poland has to offer.

1.5 hrs drive: Wroclaw - another amazing city nearby!

Overall, I had a great experience at this hotel. If I were visiting Poland, I would personally choose a city with more to do and see. But if you want to get away and spend time in a beautiful countryside and enjoy the magic of staying in a castle, this is an excellent place. And if you like exceptional food with exceptional service, you can't go wrong here.

This place is magical. We booked 2 rooms (Jenni and Mari) which were beautifully decorated as was the balance of the Zamek/castle and grounds. The dinner service was a spectacle and the staff truly model material. Whilst we have older children, it was obvious that this was a resort that caters beautifully for children...lots of harry potter caped children wandering about which just added to the magic of this hotel.

We selected this hotel to stay for one night. Rooms are not so beautiful as in the pictures of the website. Excellent exercise was swimming in the pool shortly before closing. Very good dinner in the restaurant.

The castle was a great place to stay when visiting Poland for a pottery trip. My wife went out for pottery for the day and myself and 3 kids enjoyed the large breakfast, nice pool, and great castle grounds. It was close to Boleslawiec and the pottery shops but we never left because dinner was included and was great. It was one of the few places we have been where the kids actually wanted to stay "one more day". Definitely recommend Zamek Kliczkow on a trip to Poland.

This hotel is a renovated castle that is located in an area of Poland most known for its pottery. Making reservations was very easy for such a seemingly remote area . They accept major U.S. credit cards. Once at the hotel, I found the exterior to be well kept. The interior was also in good condition. The rooms themselves keep with the old feel of the castle, as the room key is actually a "key." The hotel does provide free wifi, but it is at best variable in the rooms. I found the wifi use in the lobby to be fairly reliable. I was impressed with quality and taste of the food at the restaurant. The waiters and waitresses were acceptable. A major negative is that the rooms have no sound buffer. From your neighbors to people in the halls, you'll be able to hear every conversation.

Room Tip: When booking, request that they put you in a room away from the lobby area and not on the first floo...

Nice property in unexpected place! Location not very easy to reach but place really pleasant. Recommended for people looking foir quietness, romanticism and interest for nature.
The rooms are very simple and perhaps they need more attention in terms of maintenance and care. Internet is actual the major negative issue as the connection fluctuates and is very difficult tohandle some work on a continuous basis. The restaurant is very nice and the menu has enough choice for international guests. I tasted some local food which was very good.

We enjoyed our stay in the Zamek Kliczkow. It was hard to figure out what else to do in the area but we greatly enjoyed the shopping in nearby towns. The restaurant was very good as well but the service is quite slow. This might actually be a plus for a romantic dinner so that you can enjoy your time. The negatives are that the internet was quite slow, and it is quite isolated with only the immediate castle grounds for touring, The location just outside the castle is a little to be desired but once you get inside the castle grounds, then it is very pleasant.
