Everything was really done nicely. The hotel is brand new and the staff are very well trained. Very friendly and helpful from the front desk, to the gym and the spa. Rooms are very cool and modern and quite spacious. We stayed at the sea view room and it was breathtaking.
The swimming pool was very nice with a very nice view. The bar had a very nice relaxing live music. Food was also very good.
Karpathos is also a very nice island, the bluest sea waters I have ever seen and the restaurants and the town center is very close to the hotel, just a five min walk.
I would totally recommend and I'll be back there every summer for sure....

The only place where this hotel completely fail is: the requirement of wearing trousers to the dinner (the idea itself is seriously obsolete). When you book the hotel, you will not receive info about this. So when you get to the diners hall in the hotel prepare to recieve some snooty attitude from a guy in white shirt about this.
This dinner was in fact a buffet trampled by a gang of elephants which didn't look that very fancy at all. Everything in the buffet was a complete mess. Flies ate from the food, spoons lay in the food, half of it were gone and if you are a vegetarian you will have to settle with potatoes and beans. My advice is to take half board or less and eat dinner in town (10min walk). There're a lot of great restaurants there!

Now on to the positive things. Except from this, the hotel is extremly friendly and helpful.
Rooms are very cool. The room standard is way above the general average in Greece. A very modern interior design with some really cool features such as the huge mirror spanning across the room with a built in TV and the light setup in the ceiling.
Cleaning was done great! Everything is kept very clean and tidy by the maids.

The pool area, also great. You have the restaurant, the bar and a nice pool + childrens pool. The view of the sea from the infinity pool is awesome! The hotel have done a lot to make sure that your stay here will be great!

The beach is not that nice. Only slippery/sharp rocks when you step into the water. I highly recommend not going barefoot when taking a swim. However, all sunbeds and parasols are of great quality! The water is clear so it would be suitable for snorkling.

Italy seem to represent the majority of customers.

The hotel itself claim they are a 5 star hotel, the travel agency 4+, I would say 4. Some strange things were missing that should be standard on 5 star hotels. For example room service, free wifi internet, pen/paper on the room (although you get an evaluation form), a welcome pamphlet explaining the hotel amenities (you will only find info about the spa).

Room Tip: Sea view is a must, the other side looks like a building site.

We are trying hard to keep the standards as high as possible. And we do request male guests to wear long trousers and (if possible) shoes (not sandals or flip flops) at least at dinner time.
Our maitre d is "unfortunately" the person who has to inform guests about this policy of ours (there are also signs outside the restaurant). And he does it in the most polite way. Now whether this policy of ours is right or wrong, I leave it up to the guests to judge. So far the crushing majority of our guests approve this policy.
The onus to find out about hotel rules and regulations is on the guest.
Coming to dinner, which is served between 19 and 22 hrs, it does get busy between 20h00 and 21h00. So we advise guests who want to eat in a more relaxed atmosphere to come after 21h00 or at 19h00 or to use the services of our a la carte restaurant.
But no matter how busy it gets I dont find it polite to refer to the other guests as "trumpling elephants"...
Coming to the question of vegetarian dishes, we do have a number of dishes other than potatoes and vegetables which are vegetarian. As of now and following the guests suggestions we introduced special labels to indicate these items.
We do have a number of fly traps to limit any fly related problems.
The hotel is in Pigadia. So if we have a problem with flies so should have the other locations recommended by the writer of the article. I dont think that flies stop at Alimounda...
As with the info folder containing details such as room service, hotel description etc, I shall be glad to forward a copy to anyone interested.
If for some reason a room is missing this (removed by a previous guest etc) we can simply replace it after a simple call at reception.

Alimounda Mare is a perfect get-away place from a noisy megapolis life. It has this vibe of tranquility essential for holidays: the only sound you cannot escape there is the sound of the sea. We had a great room facing the infinity pool and the sea and it is priceless waking up in the morning and seeing just the blue sky and the blue sea behind the window!

Food was also great: lunch time pizzas from Italian chef are highly recommended and you will lick your fingers after local traditional pastries at the reception desk :o)

Karpathos is a beautiful island with quite a few things to do there: so you can be as relaxed at the hotel or as active exploring the local villages as you wish to!

So Alimounda Mare is definetely recommended. BIG THANKS goes to its owners and managers for doing a great job! M&B

We stayed there in June and although i had seen the hotel on different websites such as expedia, hotels.com, et.c., the hotel looked so much better in reality. In fact, architecture does not follow the island's perspectives, it resembles a city hotel, but altogether is great, not to mention the infinity pool that travels you to the horizon and the pool bar, it feels as if you are on a cruise boat! Food has many variations, mainly mediterranean cuisine, italian pizza (highly suggested!), and effectively covers different tastes. Spa is highly recommended, especially when it comes to trying the massage treatments with chocolate and hot stone! Last but not least, beach is quite rocky, but you would need a car to travel around the island and meet with the locals and dive into the amazing blue waters!! Would definitely dream of being there again!
