We spent a week in Alimounda Mare in Karpathos end of June, and honestly we did not want to return home, it was so nice! The hotel itself in beautiful, modern and very clean, with superb view on the sea, and the port. The food was ok too, wide range of choice both for breakfast and dinner. The pool is beautiful, although we spent most of the time at the beach. The beach in front of the hotel is not the most beautiful on the island, but still lovely, with crystal clean water, where you can have fun snorkelling . But what made our vacation unforgettable is the perfect service, the extremely friendly and helpful staff! Vasil and Claudiu from the restaurant made a really good job, as well as Fotini and Zoi at the reception who helped me a lot to organize my husband's bithday surprises, balloons cake, etc. Thank you all for the great experience!

We just returned from a 12 days vacation on Karpathos where we stayed at the Alimoinda Mare Hotel.I know that other travellers rate this hotel as excellent. We however have mixed feelings. Certainly the rooms are perfect, 5 star quality as is the hospitality of the entire staff. Our irritation comes from the details. For instance absolutely no hotel information booklet in the rooms. You have to find out what services are available. Room to room telephone? The in room TV is a very funny/irritating story. The TV set is build in into the room mirror. Really! Result in daylight it is absolutely imposible to watch TV (because of bright light) even with all the curtains closed, forget it. In the evening a little better (dark outside) but one has to sit right in front of TV, so only one oerson can watch.Colours are distorted at all times. My advise to management change this asap in normal flat screens. The wifi is ridiculous. 5 euro for one hour??!! There is free wifi in the hotel lobby, but 60% of time not working/no connection. In a modern day hotel!!??
The quality of the buffets is very mediocre. After a few days we decided to eat outside. Too often items on the buffets are missing. Butter, bowls, food items. Fried eggs only available when the cook wants you to. Etc. Restaurant manager should be more aware of shortcommimgs.
Hotel build on too small an area. So it looks a bit crowded. Childrens entertainment ann table tennis right under your balcony is a bit much..
Alimounda is 5 star but management has enough items that need attention and improvement.

Dear Henk V,

Thank you for taking the time to share your impressions with us. We are pleased to hear that you liked the rooms and the hospitality of the staff.

Regarding the room details, please be advised, that the room directories are sometimes removed from the rooms by other guests and in the rush this is not noticed immediately by housekeeping. However, our reception is happy to provide it when informed accordingly.

We are surprised to hear the comments regarding the television, as we have received many nice comments about the clever details in the rooms, like the TV behind the mirror.

Please note, that WiFi is free of charge in the public area and in the rooms the connection is with a cable and with charge. We have noted the comments regarding the connectivity and forwarded them to the relevant department.

Kindly be advised, that the hotel buffet features 6 warm main dishes, 3 live cooking points and 6 warm appetizers along wide variety of salads. We believe this is sufficient for everyone to find something in their taste. The food is replenished constantly, but as the food is freshly cooked, during the rush hours there might be small delays in the replenish.

Once again we want to thank you for your comments and we hope to be able to welcome you back in our hotel to improve our good standard of services.

Yours sincerely,

The Hotel Management

This is the third time I have stayed at Alimounda mare, and the fifth time I have visited Karpathos. The structure architecturally speaking whilst not integrated into the landscape, is very well planned and detailed. Even when the hotel is super full there is a feeling of space and privacy. the rooms are spacious and the cleaning is excellent and discreet. This year the two young animators from eden viaggi are very good. Watch out this is not a club style formula.... it is very "soft" animation, and this is well noted in the eden catalogue so if you want salsa lessons and karaoke this isn't the place for you. Having said this the pool is incredible and well adapted for children and the staff are very child friendly and the food is clean and plentiful. In particular the guest manager Patrizia, a lovely Italian girl always makes our stay special, as to Mr Jack the best waiter in the restaurant. The only difference this year is on the grill. In the last few years there was a very efficient boy who would wip up a piece of fish or chicken even if not on the buffet for me, he kept the cooked grilled foods perfect. this year the evening grill section, whilst a full on professional kitchen is not working to its capabilities. Being a five star restaurant the Blu lagoon group has to keep this up to kepinsky standards ...

Room Tip: best for no afternoon sun the rooms facing south.

We've just returned from an enjoyable holiday at Karpathos and I must say that this is one of the best hotels I've been at in the Greek islands (and I've been at 6 of them...). The hotel is well-designed & almost new and as others written, the pool & beach areas are of first-class. The room we've had was very nice & spacious, but the TV-behind-the-mirror is more a gimmick than an efficient solution. The beds are very comfortable, the bathroom is well-equipped, there's a mini-bar/fridge with a complimentary bottle of white wine (quite nice) and also bathrobes & slippers (which you usually don't get even at most 5-star hotels). Breakfast is very good but tends to "repeat itself" as there's no difference between the variety served every day... However, the service at the dinning room is superb and very efficient. The waiters were kind and their manager was always checking if everything runs smoothly. It was also obvious that his staff is well-trained and that both him & them respected each other, which is very nice to see. In fact, all the hotel staff were great and gave the feeling that they really want you to enjoy your stay.
I would have granted 4.5 points, but I could not give it a perfect 5 due to a few annoying things: first of all, the WiFi issue: as mentioned, it is free at the public areas and the signal & speed are very good, but why charge 5 euros per hour (!!!) inside the room?? The funny thing was that you can connect to the free service if you just go out to the porch... The second thing is the lack of really hot water - no matter the time of the day, the water were always between warm to mildly hot and also the stream from the shower tube was quite slow. The third thing is minor, but still not proper for this type of hotel in my opinion: the usage of the spa facilities (Jacuzzi, sauna & hammam) was not for free but highly-priced at 20 euros per day (!!!). There is also a forth & minor reason why this hotel is not excellent (in my opinion): the lack of kids activities. There were two vibrant Italian girls acting as an "animation team" but it seems that they were not part of the hotel's staff (belong to an Italian traveling agency) and the entertainment they've provided (which was quite nice) was more for the Italian guests than for the others who do not understand Italian...
All in all, this is a highly-recommended & great hotel, which with some minor improvements could be a really superb!

The hotel was nice and clean, the setting next to the beach and sea was great. The beach however was full with rocks so it's better to wear shoes when you get in the water. Or you can walk a little bit further to a sandy spot. I loved having breakfast with the beautiful view over the sea. The buffet food was ok but nog really special.
The service was mixed, there were lovely waiters but there were also unfriendly waiters. Overall I did not get a warm feeling from the staff, which is a pity as this gives character to a hotel.
Also we found it rather strange that the spa and gym closed rather early (beginning of the evening).
