Comfort in the wilderness

Review of Leopard Trails
5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 12 Apr 2017
Stayed tow nights here and had 4 Game Drives. Saw everything except a Leopard but the rest made up for it all. You are in the bush but in comfort and facilities are excellent. Staff are helpful and knowledgeable and evening meal is by candlelight after drinks round a campfire.
Definitely reccommended.

If I could have given more stars I would!
Starting from our communication with Arshad, which was always immediate and efficient, to the transport arranged by LT from Colombo to LT (thank-you, Wanni, excellent driver), to the welcome at LT (cold towels, homemade drinks, big smiles and lots of information)...
Our guide was Amidu who was superb, amazing! Always happy & smiling, a very experienced zoologist who was so knowledgeable, recognising animal warning calls (Leopard nearby etc) Taking the time to name all animals, explain their calls, habits. We saw Leopards, sloth bear, crocodiles, water buffalo, wild boar, spotted deer, elephants, turtles, different monkeys, peacocks and many, many other birds in Yala Blocks I & V.
The entire staff was amazing: Amidu, Tori, Charith, the kitchen staff, who prepared the most amazing SL food. The open-air bar & dinner table was set up in a different place every night, with lanterns & comfortable chairs, allowing time for chatting before a sumptuous candlelight dinner. Nothing was too much trouble; I don't eat meat nor shellfish, no problem.
Very well worth it as everything is included, right down to snacks & drinks on safaris, safaris themselves, all meals, drinks...
Already planning a return trip!
Tips:
Take a great zoom lens (400 and up) or reserve one with LT well in advance
Binoculars are a plus
Stay two nights to get in four drives, more than worth it

Room tip: All Fab (tried both) a/c, indoor loo, private outdoor shower (classic), indoor shower (luxury). Luxury tents = more space, more luxurious!

Absolutely loved our stay at Leopard Trails. The guides are all awesome! They are so knowledgeable and funny too - we learned a lot and laughed a lot! Hopefully we didn't scare too many leopards away...! The food was next level too. We didn't expect such incredible Sri Lankan food in such a remote spot, but we were really impressed. They also catered to my dietary requirements perfectly, so I could just relax and enjoy every meal without even thinking about my allergies! Everything was taken care of!

This is our 1st visit Sri Lanka, we was browsing the net to search for places for leopard, surprisingly Yala National Park has one of the best review where leopard is one of the most concentrated population wildlife here. One of the main reason that we choose Leopard Trails, is because the friendly manager called us after we send in a request, within 4 hours!! That already given us a 1st good impression of customer service. After we review their web page and some research on this camp, we decided to give this camp a try, lets compare the experience we had in some other national parks.
Well, is not just met our expectations, the wildlife knowledge of the rangers are very good, and the best is we have learnt number of photography skills from them. The accommodation is awesome, and every dinners are surprise!!
I am sure will be back to Leopard Trails again!!

This was the highlight of our holiday, camp is beautiful food great and staff exceptional!, thank you Keith! We managed to see a leopard but if we had not there is an abundance of fantastic wild life in the parks. Tents super luxury and a great out door shower, part of the camping experience. We would highly recommend Leopard trails.

The over-the-top safari tents! Great personable guides! Good food! Attentive service! Animals! We had a wonderful experience, went on two safaris per day, didn't need to deal with any logistics since it was all inclusive, enjoyed our air-conditioned tent with attached outdoor shower, had great meals visiting with the other guests, slept to the sounds of frogs and chirping insects , found our guide to be extremely knowledgeable in the wildlife and ecology of Sri Lanka- what more can I say?
