“A dream that will last a lifetime”
Reviewed 5 July 2014 for a stay in June 2014

There is a slight misgiving when reviews have raised expectations to such an extent that the reality will disappoint. This concern became more acute for us when the owners Lesley and Ken informed us that the chef/manager Sonali who has received so much praise from reviewers would not be there during our stay. When we heard of the torrential rains just weeks before we were due to arrive we were seriously worried about how our honeymoon would pan out. What can I say? All the superlatives I can conjure don't do it justice. Every day it seemed presented a new catalogue of unforgettable experiences: the flight of bats at dusk like a squadron out on an evening bombing raid; the giant monitor lizard patrolling the garden; the dawn chorus of exotic birds and monkeys; evening breeze over the lake watching the fishermen; eating coconuts plucked from the tree by Raja the gardener... And the cooking? Well even without the beloved Sonali, the food was out of this world. A range of typical Sri Lankan and other exotic cuisine greeted us every night from Fairus whose mantra was 'you happy, I'm happy'. And every night our bed was made up by Lahiero, the house boy, with a new design and message (see photos!). Of course as many have noted, the star of the beautifully designed house is the infinity pool and lake beyond and it's difficult not to create a stunning photo from the sunset. But there is so much more to it, with a garden to explore, rooms that are deceptively simple but a joy to live in and even a private cinema. It was tempting just to stay in the house throughout our stay and to vegetate in the paradisiacal surroundings but this corner of Sri Lanka is so rich with wildlife, history and culture and all manner of delights, we found the perfect combination venturing out for the morning or afternoon. Even a morning boat trip round the lake offered us a visit to a temple, a cinnamon plantation, a spice garden, a spot of fishing and a close-up encounter with an enormous crocodile! A day's excursion to Uda Walawe was a trek but to see so many elephants, well worth it.
I could write more but suffice to say, Lakeview actually surpassed the amazing expectations fuelled by these reviews. Thanks to Lesley and Ken for their wonderful hospitality and to all the staff who made our honeymoon so magical.

Lake view is stunning! We stayed for 2 weeks and loved every minute. Bedrooms 3+4 are outside the main body of the house so if may feel like your splitting up if u have several children. The master bedroom is idealic with a view over the lake as you wake up. The house manageress is SUPERB. Excellent English, amazing cook, fun character and a pleasure to have around. Plenty to do within 30 minutes of the villa if u want to go out. All in all, if your looking for R&R with hassle free days out... Lake view is perfect.

“Paradise, an extraordinary house in an extraordinary setting”
Reviewed 6 April 2014 for a stay in April 2014

This villa is amazing, we spent five days there with our four children and had a fantastic time. The house itself is very large and open. You can tell a lot of care went into the design and layout.

The grounds are lush and well maintained, with loads of wildlife, birds, lizards and monkeys. The view of the lake is fantastic and pictures don't do it justice. We toured the lake and enjoyed the natural beauty.

The staff, as mentioned in previous reviews is very helpful and Somali's cooking lived up to expectations.

The infinity pool was the center of activity for our family and is a good size.

The cinema room has A/C and is a nice escape after a long day at the beach or by the pool.

The owners are lovely people and were extraordinarily helpful in helping us prepare for the trip.

We have rented many properties around the world and this was by far our favorite one so far, in fact we plan to come back.

We had a perfect fortnight in February enjoying friendly relaxed hospitality in this lovely villa set in a pristine natural environment, but with every possible home comfort.
The perfect temperatures for outdoor living were a great antidote to the wet greyness that we left behind.
The owners have put great thought and care into designing a villa that envelopes you in the stunning, vibrant and engaging tropical environment of its setting. The view is spectacular and the house has been thoughtfully and generously laid out ensuring that every room has a view of the lake. Great attention to detail is everywhere giving an authentic feel to the villa but with luxurious touches and the design of the house makes the most of the perfect (monsoon excepted) climate.
Set in a cinnamon plantation, but 10 minutes ride from the beach, the spectacular bird and animal life of Sri Lanka is all around. We were woken by birds and fell asleep to the chorus of geckos and crickets, and all day there was a pageant of wildlife round the pool, kingfishers, swallows, monkeys, bats, lizards and squirrels, and even the monitor lizard at the bottom of the garden.
We spent many happy hours spotting egrets, cormorants and sea eagles over the lake. Impossible to tire of the wild life but the housekeeper was always able to arrange a trip further afield to Galle, diving in the marine reserve or a safari to Yalla National Park. If you want to see all the natural wonders of Sri Lanka, there is no more comfortable base for the experience.
And if you don’t it is still a lovely place to relax….

“Fantastic villa”

So often you go to a holiday place and find that the internet photos etc don’t really do the place justice! Not so with Lakeview Villa! From the moment we arrived (7 adults in our family party) everything was fantastic. The location is isolated and peaceful with a beautiful view across the warm infinity pool to Koggala Lake. The grounds are beautifully kept and with much wildlife (monkeys, monitor lizards, birds, squirrels, bats). The focus around the pool & living/dining areas created a very enjoyable atmosphere. All the rooms were large, comfortable and tastefully decorated.
Sonali, the chef, & her husband Lasantha were amazing. She cooked us stunning meals each night, both European and traditional Sri Lankan as required and listened to our food preferences. (We are all foodies but because of Sonali we had no need to eat out). Sonali and Lasantha were always available for advice to arrange tuk tuks to Galle and surrounding areas, boat trips etc and drove us around themselves, as well as organising all the food. The combination of location, amenities and chef/driver made this a truly memorable holiday for our family.

“Pool with a view”
Reviewed 13 August 2013 for a stay in August 2013

A beautiful villa with bags of character and style. The infinity pool is the centre of attention, it's big and has the most wonderful view over Koggala lake. The rooms are immaculate and the cooking is first class from the very bubbly Sonali. She and her husband Lassanka look after the property and your every need. They also very kindly let us borrow their car to drive into Galle. If you fancy a break from the beach and something quiet and stylish this fits the bill perfectly.
