Cafe Ceylon is about 3 km from Long Beach Resort in Koggala. It is in a large garden with coconut trees. At night the garden is lighted with lamps and looks very romantic. They have both indoor and outdoor seats. The walls have giant posters of Ceylon and nice jazz music for the background. The restaurant was quite busy but not too full and the service was quite fast.
we ordered pumpkin roasted soup and oysters both were excellent. The oysters were very fresh and tasty in a Thai style sauce and the soup was creamy and coconut flavored.
the main dishes we ordered whole steamed fish which came in a large dish covered with coriander and other green leafs and sauce. It was very tender and moist and full of flavor. A superb fish dish. The other was Lobster prawn which is the largest prawns i have seen. they were grilled and served with a fried rice and a salad. very moist and flavorful and meaty. So large that is difficult to finish such a rich dish.
For desserts we ate a poached mango and vanilla ice cream with crunchy nuts and a passion fruit sauce. the other was bananas with palm sugar and ice cream which was something special. The hot bananas and the sauce and the cold ice cream made the dish memorable. Very good expresso and capuchino as well. No alcohol but we are allowed to bring our own without a special charge.
The food at Cafe Ceylon was of a much higher standard than the restaurants in Unawatuna and Galle and the service was efficient and friendly. The total cost was about €40 for 2 persons. I recomend this Cafe to everybody who is in the Galle-Koggala area on holidays. It is a treat to eat here. I think it is a very good value for money and I hope to visit the cafe again before we go home next week.
