Me and my partner have just returned from a week-long stay at the Blue Bay Hotel in Cala Major. The hotel itself is nice and clean with good views...good bit over.

The staff at this hotel, in particular Jose, the receptionist, are incredibly rude to English people. According to him, he treats English people badly because he gets treated like [--] in our country! The all inclusive bar ends at 11pm so if you want a drink between 11 and 12 you have to pay for it. They start switching the lights off in the bar at about 11.30pm and switch them all off at 12 - bedtime. If you're Spanish, they might leave you lit up a bit longer (still not after 12 though). God forbid you should make any noise in the bar while you're on your hols - all hell breaks loose if Jose is around! We were swore at in English and Spanish and he threatened to call the police, all because we were playing cards and somebody cheered. I cannot describe how badly we were treated.

The actual resort of Cala Major is pretty lifeless. The Blue Bay Hotel is up hundreds of steps and the ever so thoughtful holiday company Sun4U allocated elderly people and young children here. There are few bars/restaurants around and they are mainly aimed at Spanish people.

The food at the hotel is very basic and there is very little variety. They do like to surprise you by changing the shape of the fish and chicken every now and again so you think you are getting a change...but you're not. The food is all very processed but if you like Iceland 2 for £1 you will be in your element.

There is an entertainment board at the hotel which tells you what is (or rather, isn't) going to be on each night. We had entertainment for one night only, which lasted for one hour. They seem to own one CD which has about 5 songs on it and it is played (sometimes) just loud enough for you to make out what song is on.

There are two bars, one inside and one outside, which are not open at the same time so you don't have the option of a change of scenery. They whinge about their little plastic cups not being returned to the bar and they whinge about how many drinks you have on your table. If you're lucky enough to get the drinks you want that is! One night they ran out of red wine, rose wine, sangria, peach schnapps, triple sec....more!

Bit of a Fawlty Towers this one, don't bother.

Everyone in our hotel booked with Sun 4 U - a cheap deal through teletext - what a nightmare!!!! The hotel nightshift manager hated english and made our lives hell, the steps were wet and my partner fell and has dislocated his shoulder, hospital visit tomorrow, the hotel didnt care and didnt do anything ALL INCUSIVE & RAN OUT OF ALCOHOL this was when the bar opened, all soft and alcoholic drinks had ran out. They treat the spanish like royalty brits like dirt on thier shoe. Lots of steps too, right on top of a hill but steps all oer even to the pool - BIG NO GO!!!!

We got stuck in the lift first night had to press the alarm to get help the next day we got a warning about making noise after 12 am what did they want us to do stay in there until morning!
The evening reception guy was a proper di!k head he followed us around the hotel with a can of pepper spray we done nothing wrong then the next day we had a written warning about noise that we didnt even make. Dont stay here if you want a nice hoilday, nice food or if you want to enjoy yourself.
One thing i will say pukka view very clean rooms but thats it.
We had to move hotels in the end and had to pay, the sun 4 u phone number was non exsitent!!!!!!

I stayed in a hotel end of June 2009. The hotel was clean and the rooms are well kept every day. The gentleman on the reception was quite helpful and friendly. He was always there to help and he allowed me and my partner to take a shower in the hotel even we had to check out in the morning and our flight was organised in the evening. He also kept our baggage for a day.Buses number 1 and 3 are regullar. Running every five minutes from cala Mayor to Mallorca city centre for just 1.50 euro. Bus number 1 from Porto Pi to the aerport runs every 10 minutes. Shopping centre is near and good value at Porto Pi area next to the hotel. Beach is nice, we also had a big party as it was St.John's celebration day. Rooms were silent enough to have sleep, can't say anything bad for the actual hotel itself, only bad thing no matter how old you are it's based on the top of the hill, almost a mountain to climb, but hey you are on hoiliday. No harm climbing, after a day you get used to it. Taxis are also cheap and reliable 8 euro, as well as the my favorite restaurant The Smurf. Nice grilled squid and prowns pilpil...Would defo stay again. Buses are taking people to the beah every day organised by hotel, small market just beside hotel for any refreshemts you need including post cards and stamps, phone cards etc. You have a bar there as well some karaoke show ocassionally. TV is bad as no english chanells, food not bad at all, but would suggest you mix eating out with eating in the hotel itself.

I have just returned from a 10 night holiday with my wife and two childen 4 & 11 y.o. we had the misfortune to stay at the blue bay hotel in cala major. the resort is a bit shabby with not much to do, but that should'nt have been a problem for us as we were staying all-inclusive.

The hotel itself is not bad having been refurbshed a few years ago apparently, air con in the rooms with no carge, nice pool and pool bar area. rooms were basic and small but cleaned every day. that is i'm afraid where the plus points end.
the food is very basic at best with a picky 4y.o. chips is all thats on the menuhe even stopped eating the deserts after 3 days. for the adults a mixture of fish and meat of varying discriptions, you have to guess when its in you mouth which animal it was when alive as the food description cards were rarely changed. and the resulting jelly belly arrived after day three having ate a very pink pork i think.

The staff, with the exception of some very cheerfull and friendly cleaners and the barman paco, who was good with the kids and amiable with the adults, the rest were rude, argumentative and ignorant there are a lot of rules and regulations to be followed at this hotel and they must be carried out with millitary precision or you will be disciplined.
i would love to carry on this review but the result of that undercooked food is still with me
