“Good value hostal in a quiet resort”
Reviewed 14 April 2013

Stayed here as part of a walking holiday, based here for 7 nights in a single room. Basically this is a family run restaurant with rooms in the middle of the "main" street in a delightful and quiet resort.

The room was small, small but very clean and serviced. It had an air con, which also acted as a heater. No TV, but free wifi. The restaurant was excellent, where we had buffet breakfast and served 3 course meals.

Didn't use the swimming pool because it was a little cold at this time of year......

Room Tip: 2nd floor is quieter, away from kitchen fans and fridges.

We stayed three nights. "Dragonera" is a delightful family run hostal, very friendly. The restaurant is fine too, the breakfast really generous. Some rooms (they are very clean) have a stunning view over the sea, including the island Dragonera.

There is a fine small beach just close by. For those who like walking in the mountains, there are some very attractive excursions, especially the one to "La Trapa", an abandoned monastery. Not easy walking, but it is worth it when you arrive, after 2 hrs walk.

We´d love to come back some day!

Stayed just 3 nights - pity it wasn't more. Very nice hotel at a great price. The continental breakfast was very good with great bread, lots of meats, cheeses etc and plenty of coffee. The view from the dining room is one of the best I've seen ever. The foyer/bar was a really comfortable place to sit in the evening with free WiFi an added bonus. There was very good air conditioning in the bedrooms - cool and quiet.

The only negative was that the bed was really hard - nonetheless I would definitely return and would also recommend it to others.

Room Tip: Book early to get a room at the front with a balcony.

We just spent 2 nights here, but wish we had stayed a week! We were lucky to get the best room - room 105 - which had a large balcony with table, chairs, deck chair and umbrella with sweeping views over the whole of the beach and beyond. The room was very clean, and had air-con, and the staff were friendly. For 67 euros, which included a decent breakfast, this is unbeatable! I think we'll be back!

Room Tip: Choose Room 105!

We stayed here as part of a walking group at the end of September. Check in was very efficient. Our room was on the second floor and there is no lift or porter so it was quite a struggle carrying a heavy suitcase up two floors on a tight staircase.
The room was basic but clean and was sufficient for our needs. There was a modern shower room (no bath), air con and a side view of the sea. There was no balcony, television or phone and only one small wardrobe.
The dining room has a view to die for with panoramic windows that open up to give a spectacular view of the bay and Dragonera Island. Breakfast was continental with a good choice to set you up well for the day ahead. Evening meals were typical Mallorcan dishes that were well cooked and generous portions. The seafood was particularly good.
The one thing that lets the hotel down is the sun terrace. There is no swimming pool but there is direct access to the sea via steps. The sun beds are well passed there sell-by date and the terrace would be greatly improved if it was tiled.
The hotel is in a great location on a pedestrianised street with a good choice of bars and restaurants only yards away. There is a small beach 100 yards away where sunbeds and parasols can be hired. There is good walking directly from the hotel and a regular bus service for access to nearby towns.

Room Tip: Ther are a few rooms with balconies so best to book these in advance if required.

We discovered this gem some years ago and our visits have become a much anticipated event in our year. Friendly and welcoming staff and brother and sister owners, excellently clean and good menu for a moderately priced. The giant swimming pool ( ie the Med) directly off the terrace is wonderful and this is the view from the dining room. The village of St Elm is atypical Majorca and will remain so as long as the approach road is unsuitable for tour buses. Good cafe/restaurants, mountain walking straight from the hotel and useful local minibus service. Will be back!

Room Tip: Balcony rooms have a splendid sea view. However in high summer they might be too warm despite aircon...

We stayed in the Hostal for a week while walking in the area. Our rooms were very comfortable and clean with balconies and beautiful views over the sea and to Sa Dragonera. Any small problem which arose was quickly and sensitively dealt with by the owners, who were charming, helpful and friendly. The breakfasts were excellent and provided a good start to our days' activities. We also took the option of inclusive dinner, which was very reasonably priced, and the food was varied and plentiful.
Overall the Hostal Dragonera was an excellent base to stay and is thoroughly recommended.
