We have just spent a week at the thalassi hotel, having been to a lot of the smaller Greek Islands this was our first trip to Crete, initially it was going to be myself and my two daughters of nine and twelve going on this trip, being a father in my mid forties and totally out of touch with the trends that children follow these days I selected a larger island so they would have more to keep them occupied, being used to small quiet and friendly places i thought I'd be forfeiting this on a large island, how wrong I was, two days before the trip my wife's work pattern was changed so this enabled her to travel with us and Eva went out of her way to accommodate us, we arrived at 3.30 in the morning to be welcomed by Antonio who helped us with our baggage and fetched us a big bottle of water which was much appreciated. We awoke at about. 9.30 to have breakfast and we got the first sight of the sea and the pool which didn't disappoint, the rooms were very clean and well arranged, I have read some of the negative reviews on this site and all I can say is if you want whirlpool baths, power showers and leather sofas then pay another three thousand and you can have those things or stay at a hotel in London or should I say Paris as most of the negative reviews seem to come from that side of the Chanel. The restaurant is run by demitris
who has got a fantastic dry sense of humour and our children adored him, the food is freshly cooked most of the vegetables and olives are grown on their own farm you get to select your own meal so this a lot better than the usual buffet style you get on all inclusive and for those with larger appetites second portions were always available, the beach was soft sand the sea was crystal clear, all the staff were fantastic, what more can I say, ignore the negatives give this one a try we will be back next year

We only returned in the early hours this morning but felt the need to put our thoughts down as soon as possible.
We arrived at 2am in the morning to be met by Eva who was there to welcome us and provide us with a much needed drink! She runs the hotel to a very high standard and nothing was too much trouble for her. Our daughter needed to go to the pharmacy and Eva gave us so much information and asked for regular updates on how she was doing. The rooms are clean and the staff very friendly.
Lunch and evening dinner are served in the Beach Taverna run by Eva's husband, Dimitri. He is a great host and nothing is too much trouble. The food served was beautiful and plentiful. If you left anything (because you were full) Dimitiri was concerned that you didn't like the food and offered to make you something else. He is proud of the food served and so he should be. It is a shame some people don't seem to understand his passion for his food and the service he provides!
I could go on but to put it in a nutshell - This is a wonderful place to visit if you want a small, friendly hotel with excellent food and service from all! We are certainly going to go back next year but hopefully for two weeks this time as one week was not enough!

Arrived home on Wednesday this week. What a great holiday, superb hotel run by a lovely family and staff. Nothing was too much trouble for them. Rooms are spacious, basic but kept to a high standard of cleanliness.
Eva runs the hotel side of the business, she works really hard to make sure you enjoy your holiday often going over and above what was required
Our holiday was all inclusive, a great value continental breakfast is served in the hotel.Lunch and evening meals are served down at the beach side restaurant overlooking the private beach and sea.
Everynight we witnessed spectacular sunsets.
The food was excellent throughout our fortnight, Dimitris takes great pride in the food he serves and personally likes to get all guests involved in experiencing the Greek culture, explaining the way the food is cooked and prepared. If you are adventurous enough to embrace this then you will get an awful lot out of your holiday.
Dimitris is a great character and goes out of his way to make you feel special. During our stay there were families with young children and all the staff went out of their way to be helpful
we will be returning again soon!

We have just arrived home after a week at this fabulous hotel. We received a very warm welcome at 10.30pm, shown to our room and then directed to the restaurant, a short walk away beside the sea. Even at that time of night we were given our first experience of a very warm welcome from Dimitri and the other very friendly and helpful staff, and to our surprise a fantastic three course meal. Dimitri is very proud of the lovely food that he serves, and rightly so. We stayed on a Half-Board basis and every night we were spoilt for choice with meat and/or fish dishes. On previous holidays we have chosen to eat at different places, but here we just had to go back to the hotel restaurant every night. We knew that we would have a good time, a great welcome and great food and that the menu would be varied. Dimitri is very attentive and despite our boys' large appetites, they were never allowed to leave hungry. Dimitri took great pleasure in offering us a variety of greek dishes throughout our stay in addition to the wonderful vegetables and water melons that he grows himself (my children, not usually salad lovers really enjoyed the salad and water melon). The sunset, watched from the restaurant looking out over the sea, is spectacular!
We really enjoyed the evening entertainment, especially the Greek dancing night and even better was when Dimitri, Michalis and Vasilis joined in with the singers!
The hotel was very comfortable and impeccably clean with homely touches of local embroidered mats combined with a modern feel. Eva and the hotel staff were always pleased to help and gave us great advice on places to go, how to get there and just about anything that we asked. Our children, aged 15 and 13 years were worried before we arrived that the pool would be too small, having looked at the picture in the holiday brochure. In fact, because the hotel is small, there were never many people around (despite being fully occupied) they had plenty of time in the pool with very few people around. There were always sunbeds available when we wanted them too, a pleasant change having stayed in larger hotels.
The area around the hotel is quiet with a few tavernas, shops and supermarkets. We caught a bus to Rethymnon town which took about 20 minutes, having purchased the tickets at the supermarket.
Airport transfer took approx 1 hour
The local beach is a lovely sandy beach with some shingle at the shore line and smooth rocks for a couple of feet on entry to the sea. The depth of the lovely warm sea remains constant, up to waist height for some time, so was perfect for adults and children.
We were made to feel so special during our brief visit. It really mattered to Dimitri, Eva, Anthony and all of the wonderful staff, and we feel friends, that we had the best holiday that we possibly could.

Thank you, it was an amazing first trip to Crete.

Room Tip: We had a pool view room on the 3rd floor which was ideal as we also had a great sea view over the ro...

Just returned from this hotel having stayed for 11 nights... What can I say.. Absolutely fantastic. Ignore all the negative remarks about this hotel we could not find any fault whatsoever. Eva and dimitri are the perfect hosts. Eva runs the hotel to very high standards and nothing was ever too much trouble. She would plan our sight seeing trips daily and sent us to some amazing places. Dimitri runs the restaurant and seems to get a few bad reviews but let me say we found him to be a very interesting and polite man. He is very proud of his restaurant and all he wants is for you to enjoy his food which we definitely did it was amazing.
Rooms were quite basic but very clean. It is one of the nicest hotels I have ever stayed in and would definitely stay here again.

Wow! Just returned from a wonderful holiday at this hotel and would go back in a flash. So glad I trusted my instincts and believed the good reviews and not the negative ones.
The hotel is small and friendly and everyone goes out of their way to make it enjoyable for you. It is clean and well maintained with everything you need for a relaxing holiday. The pool is small but never overcrowded and is overlooked by the friendly pool bar, which is open until the early hours for those that want it. The taverna-restaurant is only a five minute walk away and serves local dishes in more than ample servings. When we cleared our plates Dimitris insisted on bringing us more and everything was delicious. All the staff were welcoming and friendly and remembered you and the views of the sunset over the sea were spectacular.
I could go on forever about this holiday but you can ask questions if you need to know any more. All I will say is: ignore the few bad reviews, as I did, and go for it! I'm sure you won't be disappointed.
Thank you Dimitris, Eva and everyone else for our wonderful holiday and hope to see you all again soon!

Just returned from a lovely week spent at Thalassi hotel. We chose this hotel after reading the glowing reviews on TripAdvisor, and we weren't let down.

Run by the husband and wife duo of Eva and Dimitris, the hotel consists of 41 apartments, so the feeling is very intimate. A flight delay meant we didn't arrive until almost 1am, but Eva was pleasant as she welcomed us to our rooms. There is nothing fancy about the rooms, but on a holiday where most of your time is spent outside, who really needs too much luxury inside the room?

Our apartment for four consisted of twin beds in the main room (plus a sofa bed) and a double bed in the bedroom, which led onto a balcony overlooking the pool. The room also contained a fridge, which was useful for keeping bottles of water cool. My only criticism of the bathroom was that the bath is rather small, and doesn't have a fixture to attach the shower head to the wall, making a wash slightly awkward! Cleaners came around every day to tidy the room and kept us supplied with towels and clean sheets. Unfortunately, air con came at an additional cost of €5 a day but it is well worth it to keep the room cool.

The hotel had a very intimate, family feeling, which made the stay very relaxing. The small size of the complex really allows the staff to get to know you and provide you with an excellent service that won't be matched at a larger hotel. There were plenty of sun beds for all of the guests - the pool never seemed too busy. There is also a small play area for kids, free wifi (which was a bit temperamental) and computers available to use.

By far what stood out about the trip, for me anyway, was the food! We stayed on an all inclusive basis, but it wasn't your typical buffet style offering. While breakfast is served at the hotel and offered a range of breads, cereals, yoghurt, fruit and pastries; lunch and dinner are provided at the beach bar/taverna, a 5 minute walk from the hotel, overlooking the sea. What a lovely place it was. Each mealtime we were taken to our table by the extremely friendly Dimitris, who clearly loves what he does and wants everyone to have a great time. No wristband needed, the staff will remember you within a day. The attention to going the extra mile was brilliant - after a couple of days Dimitris noticed we liked to play cards, so moved us onto a round table to make playing easier. Just one of the little things that made things perfect. Although the private beach was accessible to the public, sun beds were available for exclusive use of hotel guests on the balcony - a much welcomed facility!

Back to the food - there was so much of it! Each meal we would be provided with a basket of bread and varying salads to start, along with various greek delicacies in the evening - vine leaves, briam, tzatziki, little cheese pies, stuffed tomatoes and peppers - and these were just to start! Then, for the main course you would be offered two or three choices of main, which varied throughout the week. I think I only had the same meal twice once, and only because I liked it so much the first time! Souvlaki, moussaka, kleftiki, bifteki, stifado - this was a true greek experience. The pizza was also some of the best I've ever tasted!

Vegetarians were also catered for excellently, despite Dimitris' teasing that they should try the lamb! It is also important to note that all of the meat and produce is locally sourced, with much of it grown on Dimitris' farm - his olive oil is the best and a perfect accompaniment to every meal! He will always offer you more food if you are still hungry, and will often bring you over an extra plate without you even asking! Dessert was by far the smallest course, merely provided to give you a nice sweet end to the meal. The ice cream was lovely, as were the giant watermelons!

In terms of drinks, all inclusive drinks were provided from 10am til 10pm, consisting of beer, wine, brandy, ouzo, raki, and soft drinks. Spirits were poured VERY liberally. All drinks were available at the pool bar and at the taverna. The bar staff and waiters - Eva and Dimitris' son Anthony, Vassili, Mikali plus all the others, were all so so friendly. The taverna had entertainment several nights a week: a duo playing acoustic covers and traditional greek songs on a Sunday night, a magician on a Tuesday night, and Greek night, which we unfortunately missed, on a Wednesday. Dimitris promised us traditional plate smashing had we been there! To top it off, the sunset view over the sea from the beach bar was just beautiful.

I could go on for even longer about the great time we had, but I have to wind it up somewhere. The time we had was pretty much perfect, and we're already missing the Thalassi family. A week of sun, swimming, relaxation, good food and drink, for a great price. What more could you want??? Thank you Eva and Dimitris, and we hope to see you soon :)
