Few hotels give you such a positive surprise.
Ok, reviews state it as the best, but wow, this place is unique!
Location is unbeatable: right on the harbor looking north, which means
you can stay on the balconies all day in a pleasant shade. The view is breathtaking.
The rooms: massif heavy wooden doors with swipe credit card key, wooden ceiling,
wooden soundproof windows, stone walls, wooden staircase, wide wooden comfy beds, upgraded toiletries big and well made bathroom and SUPER CLEAN.
Worth mentioning gadgets: electronic safe, electronic weighing machine, fridge complimentary refreshments and my personal favorite: full home cinema surround with hundreds of DVD's to choose from the reception!
Breakfast : breakfast and breakfast room is top of the line. One has the services and the environment of a small five star hotel. On demand huge breakfast with home made pastries, marmalades, eggs of any style and the list goes on.
For the end I left the heart and soul of this excellent hotel : Smiling Vassiliki
In dictionaries they could have her picture next to the word hospitality!

Four of us, two couples, two rooms in front of Hotel with small balconies overlooking port of Hydra. We stayed here for 9 days. It was our 5th visit in the last few years and again it did not disappoint. You are made feel part of the family from the moment you arrive until you board the ferry to depart. If you are looking for swimming pools, spas, leisure centre, bars, and restaurants, this is not for you. If you are looking for a spotlessly clean, charming small Hotel in a wonderful location, with superb service, amid the hustle and bustle of a very sophisticated port, surrounded by great value restaurants/tavernas, this is for you. Small cheap water taxis will take you to any of the beautiful beaches around the island. No motorized vehicles or bicycles, in fact no roads to speak of make for complete relaxation at your own pace. The port activity as seen from your balcony is great entertainment in itself. The family: Vasiliki, Nikitas, Angelica, Dorothea, and Linda will ensure your stay is memorable. We'll be back soon. But please don't tell anyone. We don't want it spoilt.

I stayed 5 days at Sophia on Hydra island - and I felt like I had found paradise! This tiny hotel, with only 6 rooms, with the lovely ladies running it, made me feel so welcome and at home, like I have hardly ever experienced before.
The location right in the middle of the harbour promenade; the super charming maisonette room, decorated with so much attention detail; the private balcony overlooking the harbour and the promenade with lots of small cafes, shops, and the endless caravan of sute donkeys carrying all island supplies; the family style breakfast room with one large table for all guests, laid with finest china and silver ware, the home made jams & cake, and hot breakfast cooked to order......it was my home away from home.

The hotel is apparently 80 years old, run by the family in the 4th generation - and you can feel the pride and dedication the lovely ladies Angela and Vasiliki have in hosting their guests.
If you need advice on what to do and where to go, they are more than happy to help. If you need quiet and me-time, they are sensitive and leave you in peace.

Hydra will see me again, hopefully, and I would not want to stay anywhere else but in Hotel Sophia,

Room Tip: There are only 2 rooms with private balcony. For the other guests there is a shared balcon in the sa...

If you are visiting the island of Hydra, this charming little hotel is like having a front row seat. All the activity of the island is contained in the small harbor--a short row of open-air tavernas, small shops, an old church, and the water taxi stand. And the Hotel Sophia is smack-dab in the center of it all. From your balcony, you can sip coffee every morning and watch the donkeys being loaded with whatever was shipped over from the mainland...as well as people-watch as locals and tourists meander the cobblestone harbor. This theatre entertained us for hours.

The hotel itself is charming. Clean, modern bathroom, comfortable beds, very good free wi-fi, and a very good breakfast that is included in the room rate. The ladies that own Hotel Sophia make you feel very much like guests in their home.

There are a dozen or so other places to stay on Hydra--we saw them all in our 2 weeks we spend there. And honestly, all of them are probably comparable in the quality basic facilities (the room). This is a small island--nothing here is "4 star." This isn't that kind of place. The difference between the others and Hotel Sophia is entirely about the location. If you want to feel like you're really a part of what's going on here, this is the only hotel that can offer you this kind of harbor-front view. The rest of the accommodations will all be tucked back in the town, or a water-taxi ride away.

Room Tip: Room 105--in the front, with balcony. Not all rooms here include the balcony...and that is THE rea...

My wife and I were so excited to stay at Hotel Sophia and it did not disappoint. The balcony overlooking the harbor is constant entertainment. We sat for hours sipping coffee and wine watching all the action. Our hosts were so kind to us, they fed us a delicious breakfast and told us about their wonderful island of Hydra. Cannot wait to go back.

We booked hotel Sophia for 5 nights and we loved it so much that we extended our stay to 7 nights! There was nothing we didn't like, and the warm and generous hosts couldn't have made us feel more welcome. We felt like friends that had come to stay! The rooms are beautifully furnished- we had a maisonette room without a private balcony but still were able to use the main balcony to eat our breakfast, hang out and watch the amazing local life on this incredible island! The breakfast is worth the say alone- home cooked omelets, frittatas, cakes, jams..wow. We felt very spoilt! Both of us travel a lot for work and leisure and are confident to say that Hotel Sophia is hands down up there in our top 3 favourite stays of all time. Go!!!

The Hotel Sophia is a fabulous place to stay in Hydra. It is right on the port overlooking the harbour, the yachts and restaurants in the main square.
Two lovely sisters run the hotel and together with their excellent staff they really looked after us for the 8 nights we stayed there.
Without a doubt this is the nicest place we've stayed at on Hydra in the 4 years we've been coming. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Recommend a room with a balcony.
