“Cotommatae 1810 Guest House”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 September 2013

My daughter and I stayed at Cotommatae 1810 for 9 nights. The house itself is full of history and quite stunning. It has been renovated to a very high standard, whilst the charm of the old building can still be seen and felt. The staff are very welcoming and hospitable to the guests. The B&B is situated a few minutes from the main Hydra port. Hydra itself is a very charming with it's quirky back streets, with a surprise around every corner. No vehicle traffic which is a plus, just donkeys. We highly recommend Cotommatae, it is a very special place to stay. Beds are very spacious and comfortable. We stayed in Pigeons Suite with the Jacuzzi, perfect. This is definitely a gem and I am so glad a did my research. A huge thank you to Giannis and Ilianna :0)

Room Tip: Suite Pigeons

We stayed at Cotommatae for just one night and had the most fantastic time. The house itself is full of history and quite stunning. It has been renovated and has a very modern aesthetic but the structure of the old mansion is still very visible. The staff are very welcoming and hospitable to the guests. Iliana is the best, going the extra mile always (thanks Iliana from Grace!). The B&B is situated a few minutes from the main Hydra port. Hydra itself is a very charming destination, no vehicle traffic which is a plus. We highly recommend Cotommatae, it is one of the most special B&B's we've experienced in our travels! P.S. Cotommatae has been featured in travel magazines a number of times which in itself says a lot!

Very enjoyable stay in small family owned hotel. Beautifully decorated and staff very helpful. Breakfasts were good with homemade dishes. Lots of good nearby restaurants for dinner. Without traffic and garish development Hydra is a delight and probably even more so in the off-season.

Not only was the hotel romantic and perfectly settled, but also its people made us feel like unique guests. Small details that made the difference, as the homemade and rich breakfast, the courtesy of all staff, mini luxuries in the room and the excellent aesthetics of the space.

Hydra is an island just off the Peloponnesian Peninsula, about 2 hours from Athens by boat. Cars are not allowed, so the island is a quiet place to really get away.

We stayed for two nights at Cotommatae in April, 2013. This is before the summer season, so Hydra was relatively quiet. Cotommatae is small, just six or seven rooms, most occupied by Greeks (we are American). It was recommended by a friend in Athens.

The house itself is located in the flat part of Hydra town, just a few blocks from the port and an easy walk from the boat. It is an old mansion, renovated a couple of years ago by descendants of the original owner. The renovation is beautiful, with attention to both details and modern conveniences.

Our room was two rooms off the dining room area where breakfast is served. The breakfast is a typical Greek breakfast, including fresh-squeezed orange juice, breads, cheese, some fruit and meat. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom clean and comfortable.

The best part is the staff. We arrived around noon after a rather bumpy boat ride. The staff offered the four of us from the boat some breakfast, which was most welcome. They recommended a near-by restaurant, Anita's, which was quite good. We left on the earliest boat (7:00 a.m.) and the staff made sure to have breakfast and coffee for us.

The Cotommatae is a wonderful property and highly recommended. One thing, if you are looking for a property on the water, then this is not the place.

Room Tip: The rooms all seemed comfortable. The ones on the second floor have a better view over the town.

We stayed for 5 nights in August and had a fantastic time. We first stayed in 'the cellar' which is very cosy. There are two levels, the lower with a TV area with built in sofas and the en suite, and the upper with the bedroom. After a couple of nights we got upgraded to the 'Pigeon' room which is a very large split level room with a private outdoor area with seating and a jacuzzi. Both rooms were exceptionally comfortable. Upstairs in the main part of the house the staff were welcoming and there was a very comprehensive selection of breakfast things. The staff were able to advise on many excellent beaches, trips and things to do. They also happily talk about the history of the house which has been in their family for generations. The quality of the rooms, the helpful staff and island itself made this probably the best holiday in Europe we have had.

We had tried to book a 'get away' weekend here in September but found it fully booked. We persevered and found the Kalo Domitio room free last week. It was enchanting. The attention to detail was amazing in this boutique hotel. It is really one of those magical places that just makes you feel good. The advantages are it is so close to the port, we walked with our hand carries, and check in was simple. It was fresh and new and everyone was eager to help. The only disadvantage was there was no online reservation system but a quick phone call to the guest house made our reservation. Everyone speaks English, so thankfully that was not a problem. This is one of those places that really seemed romance oriented, which was a lovely surprise.
