“Like a dessert island!”

Great boat ride with a man who is a delightful Captain. He is teacher in the winter has great English and very helpful. You feel like you have arrived on a desert island but have to leave at 6pm when the last boat goes. Super little café on the beach and great beach umbrellas which are straw roofed and good shade. A true paradise!

The island of Hydra is well known for its beauty. There's not much we can say for the breathtaking village, the narrow streets, the gracious houses and the charming port. Although Hydra it's not famous for its beaches it has one of the best in the Argosaronic gulf. Saint Nicholas is quite far from Hydra village and gives the feeling that you are detached from the civilization for a little while. The waters are beautiful with several tones of blue and green. You can go by boat (15 euros aller-retour) or by paths but it's better to ask the residents before taking this choice. There's a small canteen there in case you need something to drink or have a snack. They also shell water-melon, an excellent choice after swimming.
I recommend this beach unreservedly.

“There are better beaches in Hydra”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 October 2013

This is the largest beach in Hydra. The location is wonderful and the sea is sparkling, clear and absolutely fabulous as are the views. The boat ride is a pleasure.

We did not like this beach much, however. The problem lies with the people who run it. When we arrived, the beds were dirty and there was still rubbish in the pots that serve as ashtrays, including rotting fruit that attracted flies. There was loud music blaring - supermarket muzak. I asked the people at the bar if they could turn it off, explaining that we had left the city to come and enjoy the countryside, listen to the waves crashing on the shore, enjoy the butterflies and basically forget that we had come from the city. I was told that that was non-negotiable.

I would recommend Bisti beach instead, which is clean, with pine trees, and excellent food is served as well - the Greek salad we had there was delicious. A much smaller beach, and it is idyllic.
