The hotel/resort is situated in a local away from the hustle of towns and traffic- the roads lead through a banana plantation.

The lobby is very nice- open and dark at night. Walking from your room to the restaurant is a not well lit- most of the light actually point into the walkway, blinding you with great frequency.

The rooms a nicely appointed and quite large. Careful to keep the window closed; which helps reduce the number of small Mosquitos that chose to attack me at night.

The light switches are difficult to figure out, as was the lock on the entry door.

A turn down service will visit the room around 6:30pm. Be aware of that fact, since the showers are outdoors

The grounds are well kept- and the pool is awesome.

At the restaurant- order the lobster. Worth the price.

Plan to be isolated in this serene resort.

We stayed here for a week in January 2013. Overall, this is a very nice hotel, and I would definitely recommend it for a stay in Martinique. Great location in a beautiful garden, and a good starting point to explore the island as well (as it is located roughly in the middle, so that the drive to neither the northern nor the southern areas of Martinique is too far). Very serene and welcoming overall.

Nevertheless, the hotel lacks a few details which I would expect from a 5 star (and RC) hotel, when compared to equivalent places in the same price category elsewhere (and which ultimately led to my decision of giving it "only" a 4/5 rating).

The receptionists (and the staff overall) are very friendly and helpful. Being greeted by the director in person (and seeing him around the hotel ona daily basis) definitely gives you the feeling that he cares about his clients' needs. Service in the restaurant is very friendly as well, but a bit unbalancded in terms of the qualification of the individual staff members. It was noticeable that some of the young personnel were still quite inexperienced and insecure, which lead to some inconstsiencies in the quality of the service.

The food in the "Belem" restaurant (where we ate almost every night, as we had the half board arrangement), is quite good, but sometimes a bit bland. This is of course a matter of taste and the food is catered to a general audience that might not be willing to experiment much, but using some more of the wonderful spices grown on the island, and blending in more local cuisine in general, would improve the experience of eating here IMO. The menu is also quite limited and offers little variation. We would have appreciated a daily changing menu of fresh local meals in addition to the à la carte choices. The creole "Campêche" restaurant doesn't help much either, as the choice of local fare is quite limited here as well (e.g., there is no fresh grilled fish on their menu, while they do offer pizzas and steak instead). As a side note, please buy a new/second CD for the restaurant; the one that is running on repeat started to be quite annoying to us from the third evening or so on (also because of the quite high volume).

Our room (a junior suite) was very spacious and comfortable. A couple of details, such as the leaky windows, could use some refurbishment though. Cleanliness was OK.

Free parking of course, and we naver had any trouble finding a spot. Wi-Fi login procedure is a bit tedious (you have to register first, and repeat some of the process every time you log in), but nothing to really complain about.

Thank you for having taken the time to give us your feedback following your recent stay with us. We will pass on your comments to the restaurant's team. We are actually working on a new card with more creole flavour. We very much hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back and showing you some of the new features and services that we provide since you last visited.
Kindest regards, Valerie Deguitre

We have stayed at a number of properties in Martinique while visiting the island. On our last trip we had the pleasure of staying at our two favorites! Upon arrival at Cap-Est we were greeted warmly and shown to an beautiful up-graded suite. It was way beyond what I had envisioned. Everyone on the staff strives to make you feel welcome and at home. We loved the view from our suite, the balcony, the dock, and the gorgeous pool. Wonderful for an evening swim! Le Belem Restaurant has attentive service, delicious food and a pleasant ambiance. We did not get a chance to try Le Campeche, nor did we enjoy the breakfast buffet, however we did enjoy room service in the a.m. at no extra charge! I am studying French in the U.S., and I was so very pleased to have the staff so helpful. They are not intrusive in anyway, but sensitive to any needs that you might have. On our last day at the hotel my husband's luggage malfunctioned and I had a car rental problem on our next stop, St Martin. Xavier and his staff came to the rescue, and all was well. Every need was met. The only thing that I missed was Fox News, our evening update. Hurrah for I Phones and computers! I would highly recommend this hotel and hope to return soon.

No doubt about the fact that this a good 5* hotel. we enjoyed our 10 night stay and would definetaly recommend this hotel to other people. So, I will mainly (only) focus on the highlights (positive or negative). When you read the comments, position this in the context of a Relais and Chateau 5C member who is looking for the specific elements of a R&C hotel:

- Le Belem restaurant: I would define this as the best part of the hotel: really great food (perfect quality; perfect portions; great variety); a team which is providing services beyond expectations; an atmosphere which is perfect (calm; right background music). So, excellent.
- However: the breakfast which is served in the same physical location as the dinner was rather perceived as a disaster. I would say that all elements defined to be a R&C hotel were absent: quality of the food below expectations; a chaos of people chasing for the food left when you arrive a bit late; a team which is not trained to work in a 5* R&C hotel; Not exactly the cleanest environment to eat. So, below expectations.
- The beach restaurant Le Campeche: as expected in a beach restaurant. Just ok.
- The room: Suite deluxe. I would say the room has everything as stated on the website and has not really anything lacking. But, it has an outdated feeling. The rooms urgently require a refreshing.

As stated: all items which I dont really mention seperately are to be evaluated as expected for a 5* R&C hotel: beach; swimming pool; spa; gym room; etc.

Everything together, we are satisfied with our choice but being punctual, I would not categorize this as a R&C hotel after all:
Courtoisie: Mainly the breakfast service is not meeting this requirement
Charme: This is of course subjective to everybody seperately but lacks Charme to us
Character: Represents well the Martinique Character.
Calme: This is the main great point. Even if this not a small hotel, you get a feeling of calm and sereen environment at any point in time.
Cuisine: As stated above where the dinner is beyond expectations and breakfast is below expectations.

Conclusion: great 5* hotel; not a Relais & Chateau hotel
