Young group of 8 staying at port side to save a little coin, but worked out perfectly. 10 minute walk to main bar area, great idea to hire ATV's or use the bus to get around to the other beaches. Two sister's were more then welcoming and helped out when ever they could, rooms were basic but exactly what you need, bathrooms were average but nothing you can't handle. Little complication with payment at the end, best to just pay when your there rather than pay online before hand.

Right on the beach at Yialo, in the port of Ios, you will find Mare Monte run by a charming lady and her sister.
She picked us up at the boat and offered refreshments when we came in. She also wanted to help us back to the boat departure.

The place as a beautiful garden and a great pool in the back, a big terrace with nice shadow in the front for a drink or breakfast, and the beach on the other side of the small road.
The room are simple, clean, with balcony, fridge, AC, etc.

The beach was great there, we could use sun beds from the hotel for free, and we had a great stay, a short stroll to the harbor, 150 steps up to the town, and close to get out discovering Ios by car or ATV.

The owner let us keep the room late as our boat was at 15.30, she was doing everything to make our stay special and enjoyable.

This is a great and easy place to stay in Ios, real, simple, straight on the beach, super easy for kids and families as well as couples. We enjoyed our stay.

We stayed 2 nights at this little, quiet and cosy family driven hotel. The owner met us and "snatched" us when we came off the High Speed ferry, and after a 5 minutes walk we where at the hotel. The room was clean, the bath was just big enough with a shower and we got a nice view from our balcony to the beach and harbor. The hotel has a bar and a Mini Market as neighbors. It is very little traffic on the little road in front of the hotel.

Stayed 5 nights with the 2 sister at Mare Monte and I really had a marvelous stay. Room was clean and your basic needs are covered. Kettle, refrigerator, clean towels, balcony etc.

The place has a lovely swimming pool and the sea just 100 meters away. Free sunbeds on the beach, if you want, you can use them. About 10 minutes’ walk to the town, with a small supermarket, restaurants, café, ferry and a good baker. Try for example Sousana’s taverna with good local food at a fair price.

I had absolutely no problems with noise, as others has described. The others guest where nice and quit. I will certainly return, and will absolutely recommend the hotel.

This was the perfect place to stay in Ios.
In the quiet port of Yialos, in front of the beach. Far enough from the busy Chora to have a nice quiet stay, but at the same time near enough to go and enjoy as much as you want of it.
The two sisters Niki and Popi are really friendly and you feel at home from the fisrt day till the last.
There´s a swimming pool that we didn't use, just because we prefer to swim in the sea, and there are perfect beaches all over the Island!

Room Tip: We stayed in a room with balcony to the sea.

First off, this hotel is almost perfectly located. Steps away from the yialos beach, port, restaurants and a short drive to the village. Let's start with the people. They were...something. The two ladies who own the place are charming at some points, overwhelming at others. Nicky, the blonde, greeted us at the port on a red bike with her dog, Bella. Popi, the burnet (who always smells like booze...) is generally the one you will find in the garden walking around. Nicky is more friendly than Popi, by a long shot. My boyfriend and I checked in, and walked up to our room overlooking the pool. There was a pretty good view of the ocean. The room however lacked. Our beds were two twin beds pushed together, that looked like they came right out of a 1970's sitcom. The yellow paint job was chipping in places. My boyfriend went to go put our water bottles inside the mini fridge (great touch), but the previous stayer had left their drinks in there, which included hard liquor. The bathroom was old and roughly what you would expect, adding a hairball inside the drain of the shower and toothpaste smeared on the faucet. The trashcan had not been emptied out, and the glasses above the sink seemed dirty. After telling my boyfriend this, he went downstairs and asked if our room was ever properly cleaned. Whichever woman was behind the counter said yes, but still sent up a maid to clean it again, which I found nice. I later discovered that our hairdryer was broken. The mattresses felt more like box-springs, and the pillows were either rocks or sheets of paper. The bed frames creaked with every move, leaving us pretty restless.

The next morning, we freshened up and went downstairs. We were offered breakfast but kindly declined, since we were heading over to the moped rental place and planned on eating somewhere in the village to meet up with another couple. Once returning at around three thirty, nobody was in sight. Someone later explained that it was common in the Greek culture to have a siesta from 3-6, but Nicky and Popi were no where in sight. The rest of the day we spent out, and returned just after eleven o'clock. Again, nobody was around. That night was the worst night of our stay. Around 2am, a group of drunk guests were out by the pool hollering and yelling. My boyfriend went downstairs, along with other guests on our level, and were able to get them into their rooms after 45 minutes. At around 4:30am, the dog, Bella, began relentlessly yapping. This continued for around seven minutes before someone took the dog back to where it should have been. Just as we were about to fall asleep again, at around 5am, another round of drunk kids entered the pool area, and actually begun jumping into the pool. This time, my boyfriend waited ten minutes before yelling at them from our balcony. During all of these events, not one woman was there. It shocked me. Eight o'clock that same morning we were awoken by Nicky and Popi yelling at each other inside the lobby.

When checkout came 3 days later, we were more than ready. This time, we took up on our offer of breakfast. The bacon was soggy, and the eggs tasted like sandpaper. Nicky checked us out and rode her bike with us to the dock to wait for our boat. That one night experience certainly was awful.

The rest of our trip was amazing, as far as the island goes. Ios is an amazing little jem, and I encourage everyone to go here... but maybe just not stay at the Mare Monte.

We had a copy of "Greek Island Hopping" and Mare Monte was mentioned in there as a good, cheap hotel so we asked the crowd at the port and they found Nicky for us, who owns and runs Mare Monte. It was a super nice place to be as it was across the road from the beach and also had a nice pool which they were just filling when we arrived. The room was nice and clean, but the special part of Mare Monte is the sisters, Nicky and Poppy, and the lovely dog, Bella - what an intelligent little pup! They were both prepared to do anything for us, including munchies when we were sitting by the pool and in my case, cream for the mosquito bites I acquired there. They have a small machine you can plug into the wall, which keeps the mosquitoes away, but we were new to this game, so had to be taught. They treated my husband to coffee every morning and tried to feed him beer and ouzo too, but we managed to stay with our wine. All in all, great place, lovely people, really good price.
