We booked this island stay through TC Tour and Travel Sdn Bhd based in Sandakan. We paid 1700MYR for a guide and transfers and one night stay. The hotel was absolutely awful considering the price we paid. You can get a luxury hotel in Europe for that much money. The room was tiny, our bed sheets were mouldy, there was no matress protector on the bed, the bathroom was dirty there was only salt water running in the shower, there was no hot water, the food was terrible and the staff were unfriendly. The ONLY good thing was the turtles. If you really want to see them then one night is definitely enough but be prepared to rough it.

Room Tip: All the rooms are the same.

We visited in early March, on arrival found the rooms better than expected based upon the reviews we had read prior to arrival. However be warned the facilities are very basic but for us the room was clean and the shower did work. The food is not great (generally cold) but again probably better than we had expected when arrived, but being on the island for only. 1 night this doesn't really become a big issue. The turtle time was great we actually got to see 2 turtles laying eggs and 1 release of about 50 babies. The island is great for the afternoon snorkelling is really good and hire rates are reasonable. There is a shop and the prices are very fair given the location but there is very little choice, it is snacks, ice cream and torches, they could do more to give the customer a greater choice and generate income.
If you go with the right expectations and the primary reason is to see the turtles then you shouldn't be disappointed. It a long way to come but worth the effort.

We stayed a night here as part of a thudded trip. The island is around 20km from the mainland and takes around 1hr on a boat to get to. The main 'turtle' action happens at night so you have most of the day to yourself. It's just like being on a true desert island with golden sand etc. the accommodation is basic but is comfortable for a one night stay. The food was simple but tasty. We were lucky for our Turtle to come ashore around 9pm so we didn't have to stay up all night to see the eggs laying, hatchery and release of the baby turtles.

Would recommend as it's a good experience but only bed to stay one night.

This is simple accommodation, but quite adequate. . We were only in the room to sleep and shower anyway. The dining room is quite large, and the food was basic (smorgasbord) but OK. The ride to the island by speedboat was a bit bumpy, and we got soaked, but on the way back it was fine.. The beach and the water is amazing for snorkelling and swimming. The island itself is beautiful- a white sand, turquoise water, deserted paradise. We also went for a walk round the island. It was nice to wander round the island and see all the places and tracks from the turtles nesting.
The turtles are the purpose of this trip and it was great to see mother laying eggs at the beach and releasing babies to the sea. The whole turtle experience was fantastic. Luckily the first turtle arrived at about 10pm so we had a relatively early night. The turtle laid 101 eggs in about 15 minutes! It was good to see them in their natural habitat and the guides tried to ensure there was minimal disturbance to the turtle! We then watched them being buried before they will hatch in 60 days. We saw babies being released into the sea to start their new life. Yes the accommodation is basic but for the fantastic experience it is well worth it. A must if travelling to Borneo. We couldn't recommend the experience highly enough and would go back tomorrow!

I booked one night in a double room on Selingan Island.

We were collected from Sandakan jetty point and got a boat to the island that took about 1hr.

Once we had arrived on the island we met Pier, who welcomed us to the island and told us the days itinerary. She was incredibly friendly and had good English.

The location of turtle island is beautiful. A small island, surrounded by turquoise sea.

We were in room A2, which was very large and very clean. The bed was comfortable and also clean. The room included a/c and a fan. The bathroom was also large and had a good shower.

Included in the rate was breakfast, lunch and dinner. The food was great, a choice of meat, two different vegetables and fruits. All very tasty.

We hired some snorkels and flippers from the resort (25MYR pp for the day) and we went and enjoyed the small beach and swimming area. The water was very shallow but we managed to see lots of different fish.

Before dinner we all watched an information video about the turtles which was interesting and informative. After dinner you sit and wait for the warden to shout "Turtle Time!".

When we heard this everyone made their way down to the beach to watch a turtle laying her eggs, whilst the warden gives very good information about what you are seeing. BUT the only problem I had, was with the other tourists! Lots of people get too close with cameras and didn't seem to respect the turtle. As much as the wardens would ask people to move around so everyone could see, you still get people who refuse to move! But this is no fault of the resort.

We then went over to see where the eggs are incubated and again given background information about the process.

Then a big highlight for many of us, was watching the new hatchlings being freed into the sea! An amazing sight!

Overall it was a great experience, the only change I would make, would be for smaller groups, as it did feel we crowded the turtles at times.
