Jepara is beside the sea and the Bayfront Villa is almost in the sea. It's a large (I suspect once) private house now serving as a small, intimate hotel. The owner, Budi, is on site and is fascinating to talk to. The restaurant has one of the most varied and inexpensive menus I came across in my travels in Indonesia and the service is first class.
I was there in December ... in the middle of the rains .... and the views across the bay were lit up by lightning shards. It was amazing to sit in the bedroom and watch the storm lash the coastline. And when the sun returned later in the day we drove into town and wandered along the streets to see the most stunning examples of wood carving and furniture making in all of Indonesia. Definitely a place worth visiting.
