We have just spent three lovely days in the charming village of Akrotiri, at the Hotel Village Mathios.
A very quiet, clean and spacious hotel with a good sized pool and large comfortable rooms.
The owner, Costas, was very amenable and welcoming and upgraded our room which was an unexpected treat.
The lady on reception and gentleman who managed breakfast and the restaurant (wow, he works some hours!) were also charming and helpful.
We found plenty to keep us occupied for the few days; the town of Akrotiri is really quaint and worth exploring, and there are some lovely bars and restaurants on both sides of the island (Blu cafe overlooking the caldera, the Dolphin on the ocean side) and also plenty to choose from in the town itself.
We ate lunches at the Mathios Hotel restaurant - the Greek and Special salads were delicious, and we had drinks and deserts one evening there. The poolside had a really nice ambiance both by day and night.
I'd definitely recommend this hotel and location for a few days respite after the hubbub of Fira.
