Owner description: Red beach Santorini: The red beach is one of the most famous and beautiful of the beaches of Santorini. It is located near the village and ancient site of Akrotiri.

if you take a bus from Fira, get dropped at Akrotiri red beach. but then, you have not quite reached the red beach yet. We took a small boat from here that takes you to read and white beach just for 5 euro per person. Safety is heavily compromised on this small motorized boat and you are left on to the mercy of god, in case the boat topples, being guided by an old man and a young man, who max can save themselves in case of a mishap. Of course, the lack of safety amounts to this reduced price. So these boats take you for a ride and back. If someone wants to swim by the white and red beach they can do that and later another boat from the same operators can pick you for free (since you have prepaid 5 euro). The white and red beach offer astounding views (thanks to a boat ride, you can see them from water than from land).
The red beach is actually in walkable range from Akritori range, hence we chose to walk back to catch the bus back to Fira

We took the local boat trip so we had a nice opportunity to chat a bit with the locals and getting to know more about Santorini, as well as some good recommendations on the best places to go for a freshly grilled fish! Relaxing trip :)

We walked along the beach from Akrotiri passing tavernas offering cheap lunches. It was very windy so our feet were wet.Fortunately we were wearing walking sandals. We came up onto the path at the Two Dolphins Tavern and proceeded along to Red Beach. This had been closed due to an accident and should indeed still have been closed ,the signs being still in place. However most people ( us included) just proceeded along a dangerous cliff path down to the beach. The waves and sea were quite frightening and a group being led by a Greek guide warned of the dangerous sea.The beach was red volcanic sand or actually small pebbles.
There were many many cruise day trippers and others trying to get a glimpse of the beach. It is not an easy route down and certainly for the unfit, disabled or those with children ,in my view impossible and dangerous.
We walked along the sand ,mostly on that day in the water ,due to waves and seaweed to both black beach and white beach.
We were disappointed in all three beaches which in my view were unattractive and dangerous.Having seen volcanic beaches before they were not such a surprising sight ,whereas perhaps to some visitors they may have been.In the wind visitors get sandblasted from the pumice on the cliffs- perhaps a free spa treatment for the ladies??
We took the first bus back to Fira after lunch ,just a word of warning ..this was oversubscribed with passengers fighting to get a seat and totally ignoring the conductor in terms of the bus being full.
Save yourself the time and effort and visit somewhere else.

The beach itself is really unique especially view from the top of the cliffs looking down is breathtaking. Red cliffs and blue water gives amazing view. The beach although was really busy so we end up staying there maybe an hour and took the boat to white beach which was more pleasant and quiet.

Red beach is an amazing place but the ripped off part is that the fee for renting umbrellas and chairs are not fixed. I rent it for 8 euros for two people with umbrella and after an hour, 4 tourists came along and they charged them 10 euros for 4 . I was a bit pissed off but I'm here to enjoy, so maybe writing a review on this May help other traveller in future, other than that the place is amazing.
